Monsters
They stood in front of the broken mirror,
Staring at themself, eyes blood red, hair dishevelled.
'What did I do? Why did they do it?'
They asked themself as they felt their head split.
They screamed in pain, cried in agony,
They begged for anyone to bring them out of this misery.
Soon, someone found them passed out from the pain,
But whoever had come, fled as early as possible.
For where once lay an innocent person,
There was a monster whom everyone dreaded.
The broken mirror often turns out to be the person's soul, fractured and broken after being assaulted or bullied, or when they are denied justice. The monster in this context being the person becoming unrecognisable, either due to succumbing to depression and madness or because they did turn into something that the society considers monstrous.
But who created the monster? The society itself, by either being the one who committed the crime, by being the bystander, by victimising the culprit and vice versa or not hearing both sides of the story and assume things and spread rumours. And what is worse is the fact that we all preach something, but often do the opposite of what we preach, especially while preaching for "equality" as often, we do just that 'preaching' and forget to take action that is necessary to follow it up. We never take the first step and wait for others to do so most of the time.
If each one of us care for the fellow human being instead of prejudices and pre made notions or the caste and creed and gender, if we learn to live together, it makes a huge difference for our future. If something is wrong, point it out instead of staying in the sidelines in silence or at least support the people who point it out as each voice counts. Louder the voice, longer the reach and hopefully, lives will be saved. Because people matter. For if humans don't help fellow humans, who will?
