Chapter Nine
Friday AKA Epilogue: Finally! Wait...what's an epilogue?
Alex woke up and looked at his clock, which read 7am, but this time that meant nothing to him.
Sherri was gone and so was her training and Alex seriously doubted school would be open that day, or ever again for that matter.
Alex just laid there, unaware of what to do for the first time in his young life.
"Well, when in doubt..." Alex said, turning on the TV, the news being the first thing to pop up.
"The city of Montoya was rocked to its core today with the explosion of an underground drug ring that has been running through a local inner city school," the female reporter said, placing emphasis on words to make it seem more dramatic.
"That's right, loc--"
Before she could continue, the channel cut out and came back a few seconds later with a male instead.
"Which animal in your house could cause your IQ to drop? Well, local studies show--"
Alex shut off the TV and just sat there confused.
'Why aren't they telling the story?!' he thought before the usual sound of his mother calling him downstairs broke through his disgruntled state.
When he went to see what she wanted, his mother was standing in the living room with her arms crossed and a look of concern on her face.
"Your father was here to help me, but he had to go back to work," she said, "I heard about your classmate, Lennord, and what he did, honey. I'm so sorry and I'm glad you're okay."
"I-I'm okay, Mom..." Alex said in confusion as she hugged him tight.
"Since the shooting has affected you all, the school board has offered you kids grief counseling," she added with her usual strong tone breaking slightly.
'Shooting?! That's what they are calling it?!' Alex thought.
"In the meantime, however, your father and I think it would be better if you stayed home for the remainder of the school year. Don't think that means you're exempt from school work, though!" His mother said strictly. "We were so relieved to find out that your babysitter, Sherri, is a certified teacher, too!"
At those words, Alex's world began to spin.
"Hello, Alex!"
That's when the impossible, cheery voice chimed from behind him and he slowly turned to see the brightly dressed Sherri smiling innocently at him from the doorway.
"I'm so happy to be teaching you! I just know we'll have lots of fun!" she said to the scared little kid with a demented smile curling her lip.
