QUESTION:

If girls become women and boys become men, what do the other few dozen new sexes become?

I am not kidding! You know my brain; it latches on to stuff and then I have to go through the whole 'thinking' process.

Recently, I had to fill in an application to join another writing site- I had to submit a poem for 'approval' and provide the usual bullshit name, age, email etc. Came to the 'sex' question and I saw the drop-down menu thingy so I clicked- expecting the usual Male/Female... and to cater for today's variety, Other?

Whoa! That drop-down menu? There were 30+ options for me to choose from! I could be anything really. Including "Other" in case the 30+ didn't make allowances for MY individual sex.

Got me thinking: What do the genderqueer, pangender, Two-spirit, Neutrois and Intersex folk - to name but a few - what do they grow into... when they grow up? Only because most of those embracing the liberating notion of busting out of stereotypes are youngsters. (Least compared to me.)

You know the show Billions? The creature there who is referred to as "they"? Plural. She looks like a young woman trying to look like a young man trying to look like neither sex. "They" is used to refer to the creature in place of he/she- of course the third alternative 'it'... well you can see how it may be misinterpreted as 'denigrating'?

So in 20 years time- Think of poor grandma writing a birthday card: "My darling grandgenderqueer,  what a fine specimen of... genderqueer they've turned out to be! Much love,  their Grandma."

Poor planning, folks. Those of you flippantly coining these new words- you didn't think ahead to when the gender-spectrum 'grows up'. Here's a whole new headache for you: Create the appropriate adult versions for each... that should add at least another 50 options to that list- because at is stands now... it's bloody ageist I tell you!

Any ideas? I'm stumped.
