The bus drove away from from Elliot's home and into the unknown. Granted, it was actually a pretty nice bus, but Elliot wasn't having the best day ever. First, his dad had made him pack a dress, because he wanted him to look good. Second, he had just found out there's an end-of-summer dance. Third, some stupid guy named Jacob asked him to do his math make-up work. "Just because I'm Asian, doesn't mean I'm good at, or even like math," he'd said. And now he's on his way to some dumb camp. Hooray.
The bus stopped by another street to pick up some more kids. A black kid who looked about Elliot's age, wearing a pink sweatshirt and some hair clips, and a tall kid with black hair, lugging a green tote bag boarded. The kid in the sweatshirt decided to sit next to Elliot. "Hey, I'm Mara, and I'm here because I have a p, but I want a v." She introduced, sticking her hand out. Elliot smiled a bit. "I'm Elliot. And I'd love to trade you." Mara clapped her hands together. "Well, wouldn't that be lovely if it worked like that?"
Once they had filled the bus, and driven away from their last stop, an older woman got up from her seat and stood toward the center of the bus. "So, I'm sure you're all freaking out, right?" She asked, pulling her long brown hair into a ponytail. "Well, you have no reason!" Elliot and Mara gave each other suspicious looks. "Now, this bus will take you to probably the most supportive place you have." The woman explained, waving her hands around. "It's still called Light of Christ, but the farthest thing from a correction camp." The bus turned a corner, and she grabbed the seats to balance herself. "I'll introduce myself. I'm Alyx, a lesbian demigirl, and head counselor of this place. This camp is made for you to have fun, make friends, and discover yourself in a safe and supportive environment." Mara grabbed Elliot's arm and squeezed tightly. "Oh my gosh." She whispered. "Oh my gosh." Elliot yanked his arm out of her grip. "Geez, do you play football?" Alyx backed toward her seat. "There's another bus, too, so don't think you're the only ones. We'll get your names and pronouns when we get to camp, ok? Ok." She sat back down and the bus erupted into excited noise. "Do you think I could get my hair cut there?" Elliot asked Mara. She shrugged. " I hope so, because that means that I could grow out my hair!"
