Chapter 7 | Dinner

The idea of trusting mental patients to sit around a dinner table seemed bizarre to Ryan. They all were behaving though, it seemed. He saw a few patients he had yet to meet. They noticed him just as much but he wasn't going to bother with introductions. Some of them didn't want to be talked to, he'd noticed. So, he left it up to their aids.

Jasper sat at one end of the table with Shae at the other end. Though Yuki had his own place to sit, he preferred to be in Shae's lap. It was a much more comfortable place in his opinion. Friday insisted on sitting beside Micah, whom was placed in the center of the table. He had Ryan sit across from him. Whether that was for Ryan to keep an eye on patients or for him to keep an eye on Ryan, he had no clue.

Lucky for him, he had his sweet nephews beside him. On one side that is. Knox was on the other side, arms crossed and angry. It seemed he was in a permanent state of loathing and depression. Ryan was relieved to know the twins hadn't ended up like their older brother.

"How long have you two been here?" Ryan asked them.

"Since we died. So, for me, Knox, and Ripper, five to six years, and two for Tokyo." London responded.

"Which means Felix had to have known you were here. Why didn't he tell any of us?"

"I told him not to. Mom needed to focus on Tokyo, not us. After he died though, I really don't know why he didn't say anything." He replied.

"If mom and dad find out he lied about this they're going to be mad." Tokyo muttered.

"Don't worry. Ghost will forget all about it when he finds out some of the other things I've kept from him about this place. Besides, he can't stay mad at any of his kids. Look at the amount of times Cecil ran away from home and Ghost still begs for him to come back home each time."

"Cecil's... Alive?" Knox murmured, keeping his head down.

"Yeah, him and Felix both are. Cecil married this fairy princess. Her name is Kitty. She's so sweet, and keeps him grounded." He explained, "I'd tell you more but I doubt you'd care."

Ryan knew that was a lie. He only said it to get to Knox, to try to get a rise out of him. Though he didn't say he did care, he also didn't object to the comment. Some of the others were getting restless waiting on dinner to start. They were waiting on a few more people still, which thankfully they showed up not a moment late.

Beau held onto Marci's hands as he escorted her to her place at the table. She managed to seem a lot more awake than before. That wasn't saying much considering she was still rather tired. Once again, Ryan couldn't help but think how gorgeous she was. She wasn't the type he'd ever go for though. Being stuck in the state of a nineteen year old circus performer forever, she wasn't exactly a turn on for him. He didn't deal with crazy chicks. Ricky apparently had set an example for his son that that was a good idea.

Now, speaking of Ryan's type, Angela walked out from the kitchen entrance to hold the door open for Paris. She was walking a little slower than normal, hoping no one would notice. As per the usual nightly routine, she helped set all the plates in the right places. The majority of the staff and patients ate whatever he was making that night. Others did require specifics, of which their vampire chef has no problem attending to.

Paris leaned between Micah and Friday to set their plates down. While he did so, Micah ran his hand up his thigh teasingly. "Thank you, love." He charmed.

"My pleasure." He shyly replied as a lock of his hair fell into his face.

He continued to lay out plates in their correct places, now a little happier to have gotten some attention from his favorite coworker. It hadn't been the first time Micah was affectionate towards Paris in front of Ryan. Judging by everyone's lack of a reaction, it must've been a normal thing.

The fact that Jasper so willingly let him get away with fucking the maid on the first day spoke volumes about this place. They may be in a realm of light creatures, and there may even be a few light creatures here, but at the end of the day it's still a place run by evil. And fuck knows evil loves sex. Ryan was easily reminded of that as Angela leaned over his shoulder to pour him a glass of blood.

"I hope you like Dutch import." She said.

He slyly sneaked his hand around her upper thigh, "It can be a little sweet, but I do like sugar."

London leaned forward so he could look past his brother to his uncle, "Okay, ew. We're right here."

"Your parents are way worse than me." He replied. Ryan let his hand fall away from the maid so he could pick up his drink. Before it made it's way to his lips, he stopped to the sound of a loud snapping growl from another point in the house. "What was that?"

"They can smell the blood." Jasper answered, picking up his glass once Angela was done pouring it. "Thank you, my dear."

Friday whimpered out of fear and pulled on Micah's shoulder. He sighed shortly, allowing her to crawl into his lap. She'd been here long enough to know the monsters that lurked in Rest Point. She knew what they were capable of too and she wished she could forget it. Her fear concerned Ryan. What exactly was so bad behind those locked doors?

"It's okay, Sweetie. It's okay." Micah softly reassured the scared girl on his lap. "They won't hurt you. Do you want me to feed you?"

She nodded vigorously, "Yes please."

He grabbed her bowl of mac and cheese and pulled it closer to him. Micah really seemed to adore her. It oddly seemed to make him happy to care for her. He would rather sit there and feed her each bite of her noodles than spend time eating his own dinner. That's what made him so good at his job. To help others, even when they tested his limits, was his life purpose.

Two of the patients did say their prayers quietly before eating. One being Joan, and the other was someone Ryan didn't know the name of. It made sense, they'd come from earth. As for the rest, they mostly hailed from Hell or other places lacking religion.

"So, Mr. Sitkowski," Beau addressed him, "I'm curious about you. Marci tells me you're Felix's uncle?"

"More or less. We're not related by blood but I've lived with his parents since before he was even born. I'm not his original guardian, but since his passed away, I am now. That's why I came here, to help him and Marci find their way back to each other. Somehow."

"I truly hope you do find a way. They've spent far too much time apart, in my opinion." He replied.

Ryan smirked as he grabbed his glass, "Is that your professional or personal opinion, doctor?"

Beau snickered, "Both. What was your profession prior to this?"

"Before I was bitten, I was an oncologist. Afterwards, a soldier for many years, and now a wood worker." He answered.

"That's very good. You have medical knowledge, and you've earned yourself a strong mind and strong hands. You'll need that here."

"How long will we be graced with your presence, Beau?" Jasper asked with his drastic tone.

"A few days, actually. I'd like to spend some time observing my new patient." He replied.

"You mean Croc?" Ryan asked.

"You know of him?" The doctor said.

London spoke up, "He's our uncle Kuza's boyfriend."

Marci leaned over, whispering something into Beau's ear. He nodded, "Ahh, yes. The self destructive one. In that case, maybe you and I can talk in private later tonight. It's rare I ever have anyone to tell me a patient's history. We do a lot of guess work. The other two doctors that work here are currently elsewhere but I'm sure you'll get to meet them in time."

"Why am I always accidentally befriending doctors?" He wandered aloud, to which the twins laughed. "No, seriously. Chris' husband, Angelo, he was a trauma surgeon. After we moved, he started working at this small clinic that was run by three brothers. Even now that Ange is gone those three still show up around me constantly."

"Wait, you guys moved?" Tokyo asked.

"Oh, yeah, I forgot you weren't there for that. We moved to the dark elves' realm. That's where Bret, JC, and Maxine moved, too. You know, Maxine was very upset when she heard what had happened to you."

"H-How is she?" He shyly replied.

Ryan softly smiled, "She's uh, she's-" He paused, realizing there was no way in Hell he could tell the truth about what she'd been up to the last two years. "She's doing okay. They have their own little doctor's office and they're all pretty content in life. She misses you a lot though. Funny enough, her and Felix ended up pretty, uh, close. Guess they bonded over the fact that they were both robbed of their happy ever after."

Tokyo wrapped his arms around himself as if he was cold, murmuring, "I wish I could go see her."

"I'm sure, now that we know you're here, we can get her to come visit. It's more important you see your mother first. Which, Jasper," He glanced to the other end of the table, "is something we should discuss soon."

"I agree. I'd like to involve our medical staff in that discussion as well. Having you here now has opened a whole new window for us." He elaborated.

"So, is mom going to come visit?" Knox mumbled, glancing up at his uncle through his veil of orange hair.

"In a few weeks. He only knows that the twins are here. I figured you wouldn't want to see him." He replied.

"I, um... I was just thinking about Ripper, and how mom would feel if he saw him the way he is."

"Uh-huh," Ryan smirked, "You know, it's okay to care about them. They're still your family."

He fell silent again. Knox wasn't one to talk prior to his death, but now, it seemed like anytime he did, his words are venom. It was understandable why he was anger and upset. He did die fighting for a war that his side lost anyways. His family never came for him before that. No one's ever fought for him. It left him bitter, but he was having trouble seeing that some of the things his parents had done weren't preventable. Sometimes, life just has it's ways of happening.
