CHAPTER 04

ARMON LAID ON THE GROUND next to Bellamy, his jacket covering her shivering form. The girl, Charlotte, began to cry and woke the others up. Bellamy rushed over to the younger girl and shook her awake, "I'm sorry." She cried, curling into Armon's side,

"Does it happen often?" Bellamy asked her and Charlotte sighed in response, "What are you scared of? You know what? It doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is what you do about it." He said when Charlotte didn't answer,

"But... I'm asleep." Charlotte replied,

"Fears are fears. Slay your demons when you're awake, they won't be there to get you when you sleep." He smiled at the younger girl,

"Yeah, but... How?" She asked

"You can't afford to be weak. Down here, weakness is death, fear is death. Let me see that knife I gave you." Charlotte handed Bellamy her knife and he gripped it tightly, "Now, when you feel afraid, you hold tight to that knife and you say, 'screw you. I'm not afraid'."

He handed the knife back and Charlotte held it with two hands, "Screw you. I'm not afraid." She said half-heartedly,

"Now that didn't sound very believable." Armon smiled down at her,

"Screw you. I'm not afraid." She repeated with more confidence,

"Slay your demons, kid. Then you'll be able to sleep." Bellamy replied, patting Charlotte's knee before sitting on the other side of Armon. The girl fell asleep against Armon, who was looking up at the leader of the 100.

"You should sleep, Skyboy." She stated, noticing the bags under his eyes, "You're gonna have a busy day tomorrow."

Bellamy shook his head, "Someone has to take watch."

"I will." Armon replied and Bellamy looked down at her with a suspicious glint in his eyes. She sighed, "Trust, Bellamy." The Grounder woman ran a hand up and down Charlotte's back, "Just a little bit, please?"

Bellamy placed a knife in her hand, "Wake me up if anything happens, Grounder girl." He mumbled before leaning his head back against the wall and closing his eyes, "We'll switch in a few hours."

Armon smiled, resting her head on Bellamy's shoulder. Looking up, she noticed the hard look on his face. She placed the knife on her lap before reaching over and taking his hand in hers. The brunette watched as his frown faded into a look of content.

When the sun came out, they left the cave after making sure the fog was gone. The trio met up with the others Bellamy was with before the fog attacked. Bellamy asked where Atom was before Charlotte let out a scream and everyone rushed to find her.

Armon found her first, staring down at something at the bottom of the hill. She spotted a body lying there, Atom she assumed, "Bellamy!" The others joined and they gathered around Atom, who had burns everywhere. Armon knew he couldn't see and struggled to breathe. She's seen the effects of the acid fog before when out on a hunt once with a few villagers years ago. That was when she first encountered the Mountain Men.

She noticed that Atom was whispering something and leaned down to hear, "Kill me." He gasped.

Charlotte walked over next to Armon and Bellamy and handed him the knife he gave her the day before, "Don't be afraid." The blonde told him,

"Go back to camp." Bellamy ordered the group, taking the knife from her hand, "Charlotte, you too." He told the younger girl. Charlotte left and Bellamy looked over at Armon, "You should go back too."

She shook her head, "I'm not leaving you, Bellamy." The two kneeled next to Atom and Armon watched Bellamy hesitate. She reached over and took the knife from him, "Yu gonplei ste odon." (Your fight is over), Armon whispered to Atom as she plunged the knife into his neck, severing an artery. She stroked his hair until all the life was gone from his body.

Bellamy sent her back to camp and Armon sat in his tent, waiting for him to return. When he did, Armon stood up, "How's Octavia?"

"She'll be fine." He answered, taking off his jacket and facing her, "Thank you... for what you did earlier."

Armon nodded, "You're not a killer, Bellamy."

"You don't know me." He growled out and she looked up at him with wide eyes. This wasn't the man she was with earlier, the one who hesitated to kill one of his own. The one who helped a little girl with her nightmares.

Bellamy noticed the look on her face and stood silent for a moment before sighing, "You said something earlier before... finishing Atom. What does it mean?" He asked, changing the subject,

"Yu gonplei ste odon. Your fight is over." Armon translated, "It's something we say when one of our own dies. It's to help them move on." He nodded, sitting down on his cot and covering his face with his hands. Armon sighed and sat next to him, "You can't save everyone, Bellamy."

Bellamy dropped his hands and looked over at the Grounder woman, "No, but I can try."
