CHAPTER 03

WHEN ARMON WOKE UP, Bellamy was still asleep. She took the time to study his face. He looked younger when he was sleeping. Maybe it was his eyes or the way he held himself as if there was a large weight on his shoulders. It made him look so much older.

Armon let out a gasp when Bellamy's eyes opened and he pinned her to the ground. Armon went to reach for her knife but then remembered that it was taken. "What are you doing, Grounder?" Bellamy asked, getting off of her and grabbing a shirt.

"When can I leave?" Armon changed the subject, getting to her feet while her hands were still bound together, "I have people to look after."

"Well, they're going to have to make do. How do we know you're not going to lead an army here after we let you go?" Bellamy questioned, "We can't let you go until we know you won't do that." He put his jacket on before leaving the tent, dragging the small brunette with him. Everyone in camp watched her as she walked by. Some looked at her with anger, some with fear.

A boy came up to Bellamy, glancing at Armon before whispering in his ear about going on a hunt. When he walked away, Armon took a step forward, "I didn't kill you last night."

"Your point is?" Bellamy responded as the two kept walking. Armon sighed and took some quick steps before one of the teenagers tripped her.

The older boy turned and punched the kid who tripped her, "Anyone else harms her, they'll have to deal with me! Got it?!" He roared and the other kids turned and dealt with their own business. Bellamy leaned down and helped Armon up, "Are you okay?"

The brunette nodded and looked into his eyes, "Thank you. As I was saying before, I didn't kill you. So... I think that deserves some sort of reward."

"Oh yeah?" He smirked down at her, "What kind, Grounder girl?"

Armon understood what he was implying and rolled her eyes, "I meant some freedom. If I'm going to be kept here, I don't want to be tied up to you the whole time, Skyboy."

"You're tied up to me because you're a threat." Bellamy responded, walking ahead of her,

She sighed and stopped walking, "You're going hunting later, right?" She let out a small smile when Bellamy turned around, "Well... I can get spices, herbs. For the animals you catch."

Bellamy gave her a look and Armon sighed, "I just don't want to eat tasteless venison, Skyboy. So, You go hunt and I'll go collect spices." Armon smiled up at him,

"How do I know that you won't run away?" Bellamy asked, crossing his arms,

"At little trust here, Bellamy. Think of it as another trust excerice." Armon stated, walking away and into the woods while the older man watched her with a shake of his head.

The brunette was able to find basil and thyme. This was usually the area where she would usually find herbs for her village. She was grabbing different leaves from the ground for their meal, looking up when she saw bugs and animal running past her, "Acid fog." She whispered as the horn sounded.

Armon began to run in the direction of the other creatures, coming upon a cave. She hoped the others got to safety in time. The Grounder woman went to the back of the cave, hoping the fog wouldn't breach inside. She then heard footsteps and her eyes widened in fear. Bellamy took all of her weapons, leaving her defenseless.

She was about to attack when she spotted a little blonde girl and soon after Bellamy followed, "Are you guys okay?"

Bellamy coughed and nodded, "What is that stuff?" He asked, looking back towards the entrance of the cave,

"Acid fog." Armon answered, sitting back down, "It comes from the mountain. It burns your skin. Gets into your throat and burns you from the inside out. No one lives through a round of acid fog."

"When does it stop?" The young girl, Charlotte, asked, curling up into the corner of the cave,

"Whenever the Mountain Men want it to." Armon replied, "We should get some rest. I have a feeling the fog won't disappear for a while."
