Pub Chatter 6th Edition - October 4, 2020
WELCOME TO THE PUB-VERSE
GOOD MORNING/EVENING ALL YOU AMAZING PUBBERS!!!
I HOPE WHEREVER YOU ARE IN THIS WIDE, WIDE WORLD YOU ARE WELL AND SAFE!!
It has been an exciting week here at the Pub!
A message from our Founder
Hello all you wonderful Pubbers. I hope that all of you are well and staying safe in these very trying times.
This time of the year has always been very exciting here at the Poets Pub, as we have our Biggest Competition Ever (BCE), followed by our annual Poet of the Year contest.
In the past, the BCE has been a monumentous event that attracted the largest number of entries of all of our competitions. This year, I see a different trend. We have had the smallest number of participants that we have had practically since the BCE started.
I find this rather troubling, as I wonder if the Poets Pub has lost its appeal. I know there are a number of other Poetry Clubs here on Wattpad now and even though, member wise, we are the largest independent Club, we have less than 1/2 of 1% of our members participating in many of our competitions.
What I have also found, as I judge this year's BCE is the lack of participation by some of the competitors. I see many comments that are unanswered and this has caused me, in particular, to adjust my voting on some of the entries.
I know we all have our own sites to upkeep and we have our own reading lists and novels and poetry collections and so on, but I have seen, in the past, that the Poets Pub has been a definite kickoff for many aspiring Poets out there and has welded friendships between many Poets that has lasted for years.
It saddens me to see the trend that the Pub seems to be following. And it makes me wonder what the future holds for the Poets Pub.
With this in mind, I am putting it out there, to all Pubbers.
What can Myna and I do to bring the excitement back to the Poets Pub
and
just as important
What can each and every Pubber out there do to fill the Pub again with drinks, laughter and words
???
The Poets Pub has been a cornerstone of the Poetic Community here on Wattpad for the past five years and I know, personally, that I would like for that trend to continue for the next 5 years and far beyond.
But it will take a Community effort to make it grow. There is an old saying:
'Oran a azu nwa'
which means
'It takes a village to raise a child'
~~~~~
The Poets Pub is the child and all of you Pubbers out there, form the village. Let us work together to continue to raise our child.
We have the WINNERS for WEEK THREE for you....
The Little Ghost
By Edna St. Vincent Millay
I knew her for a little ghost
That in my garden walked;
The wall is high—higher than most—
And the green gate was locked.
And yet I did not think of that
Till after she was gone—
I knew her by the broad white hat,
All ruffled, she had on.
By the dear ruffles round her feet,
By her small hands that hung
In their lace mitts, austere and sweet,
Her gown's white folds among.
I watched to see if she would stay,
What she would do—and oh!
She looked as if she liked the way
I let my garden grow!
She bent above my favourite mint
With conscious garden grace,
She smiled and smiled—there was no hint
Of sadness in her face.
She held her gown on either side
To let her slippers show,
And up the walk she went with pride,
The way great ladies go.
And where the wall is built in new
And is of ivy bare
She paused—then opened and passed through
A gate that once was there.
Busted Gulch Vol. 14 Update:
Bruce watched Colton carry Brandy away and wished he could save her. He soon went to go find Donovan and rounded up the men to go to BG. Buck woke up to Conan, Missy and Shadow around him. Petra told Buck that Bruce was heading to town and that Doc UB would fix him up, once they get to BG. Sister Mary went to the café and met up with Aunt Sue, asking for a basket of muffins for the Bishop. Aunt Sue offered up her house as a place to stay for the Bishop, after hearing where he was going to be staying.
Ghost Music
By Robert Graves
Gloomy and bare the organ-loft,
Bent-backed and blind the organist.
From rafters looming shadowy,
From the pipes' tuneful company,
Drifted together drowsily,
Innumerable, formless, dim,
The ghosts of long-dead melodies,
Of anthems, stately, thunderous,
Of Kyries shrill and tremulous:
In melancholy drowsy-sweet
They huddled there in harmony.
Like bats at noontide rafter-hung.
October is upon us any you know what that means.... Spooky, Scary Poetry time!! I would like to encourage all of you to write your best Halloween themed poems and share them with us!! For those of you participating in the Poem-a-Week challenge you can always send in your spooky poems for the challenge.
