Pub Chatter 6th Edition - May 31, 2020

A Message from Bill

As our 5th Anniversary celebrations continue, an amendment to one of our rules shall be put in place considering our 2020 Poet of the Year.

For the year 2020 all members of the Poets Pub shall be eligible to compete and claim the title of 2020 Poet of the Year. This includes all past winners of the Poet of the Year. We want this year to be a special celebration and we want the participation in the year end event to be the best it ever has been.

With this in mind, it must also be noted that to be eligible to participate in the Poet of the Year contest, you must win one of our monthly challenges or a Founder's Challenge. This includes past Poet of the Year winners as well.

~~~~~~~~
Just a reminder to all Pubbers out there. Our 5th Anniversary Collection is still open for submissions. Whether you are a long time member of the Pub or a new member, you are entitled to submit a poem for this special collection. We want as many members as possible to be a part of this, so do your part and get that poem in.
Rookie of the Year Award (title tentative)
For the first time this year, we will be awarding an award to a new Pubber, who best exemplifies the true meaning of the Poets Pub.
To be eligible for this award you must have joined the Poets Pub after January 1, 2020.
You must have competed in at least 6 monthly competitions or Founder Challenges.
You must reflect the traits of a Pubber in good standing. (Answering all comments on your poems, reading and commenting on other Pubber poems and spreading the word about the Poets Pub to others.)
If you joined the Poets Pub after January 1, 2020, please drop us a message and let us know, so that we may add you to the eligibility list.
The winner will be chosen by a panel made up of Poet Pub execs, as well as past winner of the Poet of the Year, Pubber of the Year and Poets in Perpetuum.
We are also accepting ideas for this awards name.
A Message from Myna -
As we near the end of our 5th Anniversary month, I thought I would take this opportunity to let you know some of the things we have in the works for the future of the Pub.
One project I have had in the works for a long time is getting a collection going that will showcase published Pubbers.  I hope to launch it this summer, it will be a collection for any Pubber that has published books.  They will be able to send in all the information about the book(s) and where people can find them to buy.
We also want to expand our end of the year awards.  Have a full-blown awards ceremony! Best poem, best new poet, most improved poet, etc.
Finally, we hope to have a small group of poets that will become mentors of sorts.  This will be fellow Pubbers that have the benefit of years of poetry writing experience and are willing to help other Pubbers improve upon their poetry writing skills.
Of course, our month's contests will continue, along with our other regular open collections.
As all of you know, the work done here at the Pub is on a volunteer basis, so we can't give you a hard timeline as to when these and other project will come to light.  We just want you all to know that we are busy looking to find ways to improve the Pub and make our community a better place for all of us.
Founders Challenge
I first have to say that I was a little disappointed by the participation in my 2nd Founders Challenge, but at the same time the quality of poems that were submitted were exemplary.
Each and every one of the poems were taken into consideration and it took me several reads before I made my final choice. And believe me the choice was not easy. If I had it my way, which I could, I would just declare a tie and let all poems win, but unfortunately that is not the way it works, even for me.
So by the slow process of elimination, I did finally come up with a winner. But once again, I congratulate all those who did participate.
Second Runner Up
Drink Deep (Michael Tyger)
Runner Up
Sanctuary (Orkneyman)
*****Winner*****
My Private Place (lyttlejoe)
Once again congratulations to all and especially to the three winning poems.
A new Founder's Challenge will be announced next week.
The People Upstairs
By Ogden Nash
The people upstairs all practise ballet
Their living room is a bowling alley
Their bedroom is full of conducted tours.
Their radio is louder than yours,
They celebrate week-ends all the week.
When they take a shower, your ceilings leak.
They try to get their parties to mix
By supplying their guests with Pogo sticks,
And when their fun at last abates,
They go to the bathroom on roller skates.
I might love the people upstairs more
If only they lived on another floor.
Lyttlejoe's Busted Gulch Volume 14:
CS received an old saddle with no sender address. After that, he went to go print a wanted poster for his horse Raindrop but on his way, he was hit by a wagon. Loren sang Amazing Grace for Uncle Bubba's funeral while Aunt Sue stood solemn but brave. Upon on a hill, their family and friends gathered, and the men lowered the coffin near the river. Billy went to go warn Rue about the two businessmen and that they may be after her.
Thank you MysteriousDryad for another great update!!
