Pub Chatter 6th Edition - May 3, 2020
5th Anniversary Message from Myna
What a strange world we find ourselves in. It goes without saying, that in the "really" real world we find ourselves in new waters, floundering, struggling, trying to keep from drowning. Has the world, as a collective, faced things like this before? Yes and No. Yes...our history books harken back to many calamities the world has endured. No...you and I, have not faced anything like this before. There are the old sayings such as, "There is nothing new under the sun." Or "History is destined to repeat itself." I think these sayings are only partially true.
Every generation faces "calamities", whether old or new, faces them differently. Every generation has the wisdom and mistakes of the past to look to, but it is how we move forward that will define us. It is our future that makes us different than those that came before us. It is the PROMISE of tomorrow, the HOPE of a new dawn, that keeps us moving forward searching for a way to win the day. Will we survive...OH YES!! Will we be forever changed because if this...OH YES!! Will we be stronger for it...OH YES!!!
I say all of this...to say this...We will be celebrating the 5th Anniversary of the Poets Pub this month. And although our "virtual pub" is relatively untouched by the craziness of the world, Bill and I not only want this to be a celebration of the 5 years that brought us here, but a celebration of the years that stand before us. We want to remember where we have been, as well as, revel in the future that beckons us come. We want to celebrate the fact, that the Pub has become a virtual haven, that allows us to hide for a few moments from the realities of life and fosters creativity, lifting us high into the waiting arms of joy and camaraderie. We want to celebrate YOU, the poems you have written and the poems you will write!! Congratulations Poets Pub!! Happy Anniversary!!!!
Finally, I want to send out a HUGE THANK YOU, TO BILL TEMPLE FOR BRINGING US ALL TOGETHER!!! Thank you, Bill, for making your dream a reality!! Thank you, Bill!! Our gratitude is sincere and unending!
HAPPY 5TH ANNIVERSARY POETS PUB!!!
I RAISE A GLASS IN CHEERS!!!
HERE IS TO THE LAST 5 YEARS,
AND MAYBE MORE IMPORTANTLY,
HERE IS TO THE NEXT 5 YEARS!!
"Hope" is the thing with feathers - (314)
By Emily Dickinson
"Hope" is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -
And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
I've heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

Lyttlejoe's Busted Gulch Volume 14:
Chechi finally returned home with a friend by the name of Charlotte. Jasper found Rue but she was hurt and tired. He took some where safe, away from the storm and dealt with her wounds. She soon returned to BG but Jujube reached her. He said that he hadn't heard anything about Jake or from him. Strop closed his shop momentarily to go visit his brother, Ronan. He told him about two strange men that made him uneasy. Ronan assured his brother that he would handle it and drive them out of town.
If you want to find out what happens next, head over to the Saloon and check it out for yourself! New chapters are posted daily, so don't forget to add it to your reading list!
Thank you MysteriousDryad for another excellent update!!

Cinquain
The Cinquain was created by American poet Adelaide Crapsey (1878-1914). She was fascinated with rhythm and meter and it led her to create the Cinquain, a variation of the quintain, influenced by the Japanese haiku and tanka. Her original creation was based on iambic meter/syllable count, but various other forms have become acceptable.
Her original style was based upon stressed syllables.
Stresses Per Line
Line 1 - one stress, (usually iambic meter with the first syllable unstressed and the second stressed.)
Line 2 - two stresses
Line 3 - three stresses
Line 4 - four stresses
Line 5 - one stress
After a little more tinkering with the form, Crapsey made changes to include a certain number of syllables per line.
Syllables Per Line
Line 1- two syllables
Line 2- four syllables
Line 3- six syllables
Line 4- eight syllables
Line 5- two syllables
Even though iambic feet were typically used in these Cinquains, it was not a requirement of the structure.
Here is one of her most famous Cinquains:
November Night
by Adelaide Crapsey
Listen.
With faint dry sound,
Like steps of passing ghosts,
The leaves, frost-crisp'd, break from the trees
And fall.
