Sea Rose
H. D. (Hilda Doolittle)

Rose, harsh rose,
marred and with stint of petals,
meagre flower, thin,
sparse of leaf,

more precious
than a wet rose
single on a stem --
you are caught in the drift.

Stunted, with small leaf,
you are flung on the sand,
you are lifted
in the crisp sand
that drives in the wind.

Can the spice-rose
drip such acrid fragrance
hardened in a leaf?

Lyttlejoe's Busted Gulch Volume 13:

William continued with his plans, working his men hard to get the warehouse done.  Simon reported in, and William told him to continue to snoop around for more information.  Then finishing his drink, William headed over to CG's office to talk to her, however found her in the arms of the Sheriff.  Myna is on the war path after she suspected Simon of scaring the twins.  She let 3Gun know of her suspicions about Simon.  Tiger went looking for Raven and Stray Dog in Tent City; after almost getting captured he ran to Hilary, Cole Boon's daughter.  Alexander and his boss are still on track with their plans to come and take Bella's horses.  Jacob decided he needed to come clean to Rue, however Rue was having none of it and fired him.  Buck was shot and taken by a group of men, they left Petra, with a note, knocked out on the ground.  Shadow and Brett found her; Brett went to tell Denver and Shadow followed Petra, who went to find Brandy.  We got more of Talulah Grey's story, but Denver was interrupted by a commotion on the boat.  Missy had collapsed; she was receiving an empathic message about Petra and her situation.

Random Poetry Prompt
Write a poem about a song that has had a major impact on your life.

************************************

As free verse poetry grew in popularity, it was met with some resistance and controversy.  Two camps began to form, those of the traditional forms of poetry and those who embraced this newfound poetic liberty.  Traditionalist like Robert Frost, felt that free verse was like "playing tennis with the net down."  Conversely, proponents of free verse felt that the form was liberating, allowing them to shed the "shackles" of meter, rhyme and traditional poetic rules affording them creative freedom.

The "New Formalists" movement rallied to uphold the traditional forms of poetry, citing that long held structured rules of poetry were essential in creating emotionally engaging and musical poetry.  They felt that the systematic rules of traditionally structured poetry encouraged poets to move past the obvious and find creative ways to use words and themes.

However, other poets argued that free verse gave them the ultimate freedom to create, allowing them to leave behind archaic language and rules.  While others, like T. S. Eliot, felt that poetry should not be classified either way, ultimately embracing and mingling all forms of poetry.
