Pub Chatter 6th Edition - June 28, 2020

"The world is waiting for you to wake up to the person you are called to be. Stop listening to the negative inner conversation that's causing you to play small. Focus your mind on positive thoughts, possibilities and solutions that can move you forward. Tap into your creativity and determination and stay busy. Stay focused." --Les Brown

This poem is one that is dear to my heart, I remember my mother reading it to me from a very young age.  –Myna

Wee Willie Winkie
by William Miller

Wee Willie Winkie rins through the town,
Upstairs and doon stairs, in his nicht-gown,
Tirlin' at the window, cryin' at the lock,
"Are the weans in their bed? – for it's noo ten o'clock."

Hey, Willie Winkie! are ye comin' ben?
The cat's singin' gay thrums to the sleepin' hen,
The doug's speldered on the floor, and disna gie a cheep;
But here's a waukrife laddie, that winna fa' asleep.

Onything but sleep, ye rogue! – glowrin' like the moon,
Rattlin' in an airn jug wi' an airn spoon,
Rumblin', tumblin' roun' about, crawin' like a cock,
Skirlin' like a kenna-what – wauknin' sleepin' folk!

Hey, Willie Winkie! the wean's in a creel!
Waumblin' aff a bodie's knee like a vera eel,
Ruggin' at the cat's lug, and ravellin' a' her thrums:
Hey, Willie Winkie! – See, there he comes!

Busted Gulch Vol. 14 Update:

After having lunch with Bella, Brody realized he has never taken her on a proper date. Brandy and Bruce left Buck, Petra, Shadow and Brett behind to go find Reagan. Eventually, they had him pinned down in a house. They were ready to shoot the man dead until a man shouted for Brandy. Marshall Law and Sheriff 3Gun went to the jail to sign the papers to take the prisoners to County. He asked the Marshall if he knew anyone by the name of Done and Dusted or William Land. He humphed when they said they didn't know anything and joined them for a drink.

Thank you MysteriousDryad for another great update!!

Limericks!!

I thought we would end our study of the "limerick" by taking a look at one of the most famous limericks, "There once was a man from Nantucket".  This limerick was first published in the Princeton Tiger in 1902.  Several other newspapers picked up on the poem and decided to contribute their own verses; below are the most well-known.  This has become iconic within the American poetry culture, with many other verses being penned over the years, many of them "naughty".

I hope you have enjoyed learning about the limerick.  Next month we will be looking at the "personification" poetry form.

There once was a man from Nantucket,
Who kept all of his cash in a bucket,
But his daughter, named Nan,
Ran away with a man,
And as for the bucket, Nantucket.
—Princeton Tiger

But he followed the pair to Pawtucket,
The man and the girl with the bucket;
And he said to the man,
He was welcome to Nan,
But as for the bucket, Pawtucket.
—Chicago Tribune

Then the pair followed Pa to Manhasset,
Where he still held the cash as an asset,
But Nant and the man
Stole the money and ran,
And as for the bucket, Manhasset.
—Exchange

Of this story we hear from Nantucket,
About the mysterious loss of a bucket,
We are sorry for Nan,
As well as the man—
The cash and the bucket, Pawtucket.
—Pawtucket Times

Poetry of Poets Pub
In and out, Thick and thin, Poets Pub came.
They made writing poetry more of a game.
They gave me a chance.
They helped me to prance.
Poetry on Wattpad will never be the same.

NehpetsEnal

I scratched an itch and joined a writing-club
Reminded me of playing football, I was usually the sub
And was always last on the bus when we played away
But I had dreams of being more than that one day
So I got off the bus and took a joy ride with the Poets Pub

Thank you to everyone who dropped limericks in the comments of last week's Chatter!

We want to wish everyone in the US a very Happy Independence Day!! We hope you all have a lovely day with your families!! Stay Safe!!

Until next week, I hope everyone has a fantastic week, stay safe and keep those pens and keyboards flying!!

Cheers from you Mystres of Chatter
