Pub Chatter 6th Edition - December 27, 2020

WELCOME TO THE PUB-VERSE

A Message from Bill

It has been a very long and trying year, for many of us. The events of the past year have elevated our concerns and stress levels to heights, most of us have never had to deal with.

As this year closes down, I am sure I express everyone's sentiment, when I say ...

'Good riddance 2020 and hopefully 2021 will be a far more promising and exciting year.'

In trying times, such as these, it is important to have distractions to comfort us and family to assure us. Family comes in all shapes and sizes and genetics doesn't always dictate those we feel are family.

I believe that the Poets Pub has been a welcome distraction for many and within the virtual walls of the Pub, I believe many of you have not only found friends, but some that you consider family. Within the Pub, we are all family and as family we care and support each other.

When I started the Pub, over 5 years ago, I wanted it to not only be a place where Poets could come and hone their skills, in an atmosphere of positivity, support and inspiration, but I also wanted to create a space where people found comfort and felt safe and in times of crisis, perhaps they could find the empathy and understanding that they needed.

The Poets Pub is not a place where we try to decide who is the best Poet.

No. It is a place where Poets become their best.

As each year goes by and the Pub grows, it warms my heart to see my legacy continue. Of course that would not be possible without the love and support of our huge family of Poets and the undying dedication of one person in particular. One person who I consider a dear friend and one person I admire for her strength and determination.

MystresMyna has been the Guiding Light and Guardian Angel of the Pub, since the day, in 2016, when she agreed to be a part of the Poets Pub family. Without Myna, I am not sure if the Pub would still exist and if it did, I am sure it would not be the ongoing success that it is today.

Of course the Pub would not be the Pub, without all of the amazing Poets who have graced this humble establishment. Amazing Poets who have flourished and grown, within these walls and whose undying support have made the Pub the amazing entity that it is.

To name all of you would be impossible, but you all know who you are and from the bottom of my heart, I thank you.

I have no idea what 2021 will bring us. It is a future, that for certain, is not clear, but even through the clouds, I think we can all see rays of sunshine. It is those rays that we have to focus on and encourage to grow, until the clouds disappear and once again we start together, under blue skies.

Thank you one and all for your support and love and I hope 2021 becomes your best year ever.

Bill

Logic Run Amuck
By naomimrshl

The gods of majestic Olympus reckoned and decreed
That the best young fish
should to their mount be brought
To find out why they could
Beneath the waters breath...
And why great gods could not.

They charged Orion to find the smartest swimmer
And to make sure
- for beauty -
it should gleam and glitter.

Orion searched the mighty oceans deep...
He even peeked inside the smallest creek.

Then one grey day,
When ol' Sol determined to hide,
The archer found a golden fish
Swim'n and,
Of its own accord,
Gleam'n neath the clouded tides.

Orion watched the fish at play amongst the boulders...
Tease the lesser swimmers...
Frolic with the lily flowers.

Swift as one of his arrows,
Launched at foes long past,
Orion snatched that fish up
And plopped him in a crystal glass.

He ran to Mount Olympus and showed his golden gift.

"Surely this is the fish for which you've wished!
It's a master swimmer...
Agile and swift...
Why, this is the Einstein of intelligent fish!"

The gods smiled upon the hunter
And granted him a boon with glee.

Hurrah! They congratulated each other

"Now let's see this fine fish climb a tree!"

Busted Gulch Vol. 14 Update:

Jacob made it back to BG; after stopping to send some wires, he headed to help Petra at the stables.  Petra didn't want him to stay since he was still drunk, but Jasper wanted to take a break to go see Rue, so Petra let him stay.  Jasper wanted to talk to Rue about going out on a first date.  Bella and CG came to on the floor and began planning to escape.  After some tense moments the two women were able to get the upper hand on Ewell and his crony, leaving the men lifeless on the cabin floor as they decided what to do next.

The Old Year
John Clare

The Old Year's gone away
     To nothingness and night:
We cannot find him all the day
Nor hear him in the night:
He left no footstep, mark or place
     In either shade or sun:
The last year he'd a neighbour's face,
In this he's known by none.

All nothing everywhere:
     Mists we on mornings see
Have more of substance when they're here
And more of form than he.
He was a friend by every fire,
     In every cot and hall--
A guest to every heart's desire,
And now he's nought at all.

Old papers thrown away,
     Old garments cast aside,
The talk of yesterday,
     Are things identified;
But time once torn away
     No voices can recall:
The eve of New Year's Day
Left the Old Year lost to all.

I hope everyone has a super-duper fantastic week!! And remember to keep those pens and keyboards flying!!

Cheers from you Mystres of Chatter
