Pub Chatter 6th Edition - August 16, 2020
Flash Fiction Forum
We are pleased to announce that on September 1, 2020, the FFF will officially reopen, on a new site. It is unfortunate that we were not able to recover the old site, but we feel that a new start is what the FFF needed.
Our very own @MysteriousDryad will be the new site administrator and we are more than confident that she will do an amazing job and that the FFF will grow and flourish.
We will be making a further announcement regarding the first challenge for the FFF, in the very near future.
In the meantime, check out the new site and follow it ...
Founder's Challenge #3
I have decided to do one more Founder's Challenge before we start the BCE for 2020.
For this challenge I have decided to really challenge not only your Poetic skills, but your command of the English language.
You will have 100 words to write a poem. Any style. Any subject. That is your choice. The kicker is that you can not have any word in the poem over 5 letters.
So write your poem with 100 words or less and no word over 5 letters.
I will allow 3 poems per person with this challenge and the challenge will start August 16 and close on September 6, 2020.
The winner will get a pass to the Poet of the Year contest, later this year.
Have fun.

New and Continuing Works
2019-2020 Poetry Challenge
In September of last year, I challenged myself to write 2000 poems between September 2019 and December 2020. On August 14, I officially passed the 2000 poem mark and by doing so, I have completed the challenge.
The 2000+ poems are stretched over some 15 different collections and include all kinds of poetry styles. I want to thank those who supported me through this challenge. You did inspire me to continue.
Of course I will continue to write Poems and hopefully complete the collections that are not complete.

Failing and Flying
By Jack Gilbert
Everyone forgets that Icarus also flew.
It's the same when love comes to an end,
or the marriage fails and people say
they knew it was a mistake, that everybody
said it would never work. That she was
old enough to know better. But anything
worth doing is worth doing badly.
Like being there by that summer ocean
on the other side of the island while
love was fading out of her, the stars
burning so extravagantly those nights that
anyone could tell you they would never last.
Every morning she was asleep in my bed
like a visitation, the gentleness in her
like antelope standing in the dawn mist.
Each afternoon I watched her coming back
through the hot stony field after swimming,
the sea light behind her and the huge sky
on the other side of that. Listened to her
while we ate lunch. How can they say
the marriage failed? Like the people who
came back from Provence (when it was Provence)
and said it was pretty but the food was greasy.
I believe Icarus was not failing as he fell,
but just coming to the end of his triumph.

Busted Gulch Vol. 14 Update:
3Gun heard the shots at the hotel and went to go help. He told a KitKat that was passing by to go get the Doc. The sheriff saw that the Liberty Belle wasn't tied up. He told another passerby to get his deputy Brody to check up on that. The hangman sighed as the deputy put him chains. He met Rue's eye and saw hate there, blinded by revenge. Rue told the hangman to pass message to Done and Dusted. She was going to come for them. After the funeral by Denver and Donavan's crew, they had a wake and made some memories. Soon, firewater was brought out and everyone was due for a hangover when morning came. When everyone was asleep, those that drank the firewater were visited by a horrific memory that was buried in their souls. They knew now not to drink Firewater. When Denver woke up, he knew he had one more thing to do before he and Donavan parted ways. He asked Shadow to get everyone clear and take care of Missy and Petra. Shadow said that she would and that she would send some of the boys to help. Denver knew this day was going to be a crazy one but he also knew that there was going to be more to come. He made his to the grave and admired his work. All that was left of Deep Pool was embers and carcasses. Denver placed down charges and when he set them off, the sky opened up with thunder and lightning followed by rivers of water. No one was killed but a few burns were added to the list of injuries. The storm went as quick as it came but it took them hours to dig the wagons up and gather the horses. Denver and Donavan parted ways before he gave the order to leave, never looking back.
Thank you MysteriousDryad for another great update!!

Last Week's Double Mega Poetry Challenge
In the comments below write a four-line poem
about a vegetable you disliked as a child.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
undoubtedlymine
Leafy vegetables,
Well known for crimes,
Bullying little kids on dining table,
No doubt their cool pastime.
SoulFarAway
Artichoke, is its name.
I'd choke if I eat it.
Its thorns are still scaring
I can't look at without fearing
Schwethz
On the table, there it lies all dressed in white and seasoned,
Flavored with all the condiments available, as it's prepared.
I sit across and narrowed my eyes at it,
The looks radish is giving me is worth to quit!

The Dragon of Grindly Grun
by Shel Silverstein
I'm the Dragon of Grindly Grun,
I breathe fire as hot as the sun.
When a knight comes to fight
I just toast him on sight,
Like a hot crispy cinnamon bun.
When I see a fair damsel go by,
I just sigh a fiery sigh,
And she'd baked like a 'tater-
I think of her later
With a romantic tear in my eye.
I'm the Dragon of Grindly Grun,
But my lunches aren't very much fun,
For I like my damsels medium rare,
and they always come out well done.
Another week has come and gone, time keeps rolling on and on!! I hope you all have a fantastic week and receive the desires your heart does seek!! Keep those pens and keyboards flying!! Stay safe and well!!
Cheers from you Mystres of Chatter
