Mission 10

I ended up ordering buttermilk pancakes, eggs and bacon, since that was what everyone except Josh was getting.  Josh ordered French toast with extra powdered sugar. I sipped my tea. It was delicious. "So, how come you only drink water?"

I asked. "Oh that's right we haven't told you of our abilities yet." Emil said. "I have control over water, so water replenishes my strength and power. Plus it just tastes really good." Polly answered.

"Let me guess Olivia, you have super strength." "Yeah." "And what about you Emil?" "I'm super smart! The doctors say that if I use anymore of my brain I could use telekinesis or even see into the future!" I burst out laughing. "You've gotta be kidding me!"

"No." Emil said, confused. I've been an agent for five years, and I was briefed on all types of power children.  I have never even heard of a kidnapping smart case."  I replied, still laughing.  "But-"

"I think, you're just a regular kid who's been tricked into studying extra, and believing that he could someday be special.  When he's not."  I said.  I was mean.  I couldn't help it.  "Ivy!"  Polly scolded.  "It's true."  I rolled my eyes.

Emil's eyes were starting to water.  "Don't worry Emil!  You're special!"  OLIVIA said.  "But what if I'm not?"  "The fact that you're the only one with super smarts, just makes you more special. You're absolutely unique."  Polly assured him.

Josh, who was next to Emil on one side, pulled the tearful little child into a hug.  Then he glared at me over his shoulder.  Olivia glared too, which was nothing new, but I looked to my side, and Polly was looking at me like I wasn't human.  Which of course they didn't know, was absolutely true.

I flinched because it felt like they had discovered my secret, even though they hadn't, and Josh smiled at me real big.  "Don't worry about it Ivy.  Just be nicer to him next time."  he mouthed.  I nodded.  Emil squirmed out of his arms and sat up straight again.

"Thank you for the reality check, Ivy, but I think I can trust anyone who works for my boss.  He's the kindest man alive."  "Him?!  Your boss cheerfully threatened to torture me!"  The entire cafe went silent, and I heard a couple plates shatter on the floor.  Oops.  "He what?!"  Olivia asked, incredulous.

"It's nothing, I hadn't meant to say anything anyway."  "No, you tell us."  Josh said, leaning over the table and taking my shoulders.  "Fine.  You heard me already though.  Can we talk about this later too?" I planned on keeping putting it off till they forgot.

Josh looked around at all the people staring at us. "Fine." He said begrudgingly. We sat in silence until the food arrived. I thanked the waiter, and then began to dig in.

When we finished and Josh had paid for both our meals, while everyone else paid for their own, I jumped up and ran outside. "Let's go back to my room, you have to teach me how to put the carpets in.
