Chapter 9
Evan tossed his bag next to the front door as he walked in, Craig doing the same as he walked in behind his brother. Evan shrugged off his jacket and relaxed his wing muscles, which ached from behind so close together.
"It feels good to be home!" He yelled as he fell onto the couch, grabbing the remote off the coffee table and turning the television on. He was really getting used to the whole human thing now, the way they usually watched a screen for enjoyment and such.
"Yeah, it does." Craig chuckled as he made his way up the stairs to his room, leaving Evan on the couch. Being human was a bit more difficult for him, he didn't find the point in most things like Evan did, but he would probably get used to it eventually.
Actually, he had to get used to it, no buts about it...
----------------------------
"Do you think that Tyler and them find us weird? Like there's something wrong with us?" Evan asked as he bit into the sandwich Sebastian had made. It had only been his first day of being a human teenager, he wasn't sure how to act around others.
"I think we're fine, Ev."
"But, what if-"
"Ev relax, ok? Everything is gonna be fine. We're gonna go to school, be a human, protect the humans and do plenty of other stuff. We'll be fine. Humans can do it and so can we." Craig said reassuringly, cutting the other boy off.
"But we're not human." Evan mumbled as he continued to eat his food. He had never felt so worried over anything in his life, probably because nothing was as important as proving themselves to their entire realm.
Or they would know what true hell is like.
--------------------------
"I like them, they seem nice." Jonathan said as he scrolled through his phone, laying upside down on Tyler's bed.
The small group of boys was talking about their opinions of the new kids and so far everyone took one of two sides. Side one- they were nice and they already considered them friends. Side two- they were kind of weird and antisocial. So far side one was winning.
"I agree with Jonathan, they're cool." Tyler said, thinking about the conversation he had with the two boys during their tour.
"But don't you think that their arguing will get annoying after awhile?" David asked, returning from the restroom.
"Hey, we let you stay even with your ridiculous accent." Lui remarked, smirking at David.
"Brian has the same accent!"
"But his is normal."
"Screw you, Lui."
"Enough you two, I think we should let them hang it with us. They'll be great friends." Tyler stated, finalizing the decision. He didn't see why the new kids wouldn't be great friends, sure they had their flaws but everyone did and that's what made all of them friends. They were a family of misfits.
Little did he know he had just become friends with the biggest outcasts of them all.

"Craig, I told you this already. The only reason the Angels didn't completely wipe out our kind is because Lucifer begged Michael not to. The deal was that if the Angels left Lucifer to create his own realm, which is Hell, then he wouldn't start another war. So he left and created our home and the first of our kind, considering his followers used to be rebellious Angels."
"But Lucifer did start another war once had enough demons at his disposal."
"Only because the Angels were trying to disturb the peace by taking over Purgatory, which they know is off limits."
"Lucifer shouldn't have stepped in, Purgatory can handle its own battles, they don't need us demons."
"But if the Angels take over Purgatory, they would have the advantage and eventually take over Hell, then what would happen to us?"
"We could take Earth, simple as that."
"But Earth was built for the humans, even Lucifer said so."
"Yeah but what about his followers? The rebellious Angels? They thought our kind should have Earth since Angels basically rule everything, you know with the whole 'symbol of peace' thing they've got going on."
"That's not how it works, the deal was that Angels take Heaven, Demons take Hell, Humans take Earth and Purgatory is left to their own devices, and it should stay that way."
"Whatever, Ev. I mean, it's not like the Americans have nukes at their disposal and can disintegrate China!" Craig suddenly exclaimed, gesturing to the approaching group of boys in front of him and Evan.
Getting the message, Evan responded. "Ha ha, very funny, Craig. Why did we move to America if you are just going to insult its methods?-Oh, hey guys!" He quickly glanced at Craig, who gave a small nod, approving of his fake response.
The guys, who didn't notice anything wrong with the two, happily greeting the pair as they walked into the school.
"Sup Evan! Sup Craig! How's it been?" Tyler said, forcing himself between the two, throwing his arms around their shoulders. Evan tried his best to act normal, since it wasn't Hell and humans loved their physical contact.
Craig could sense Evan's discomfort, since he usually didn't like physical contact so he decided to try and distract Tyler. He threw his arm over his shoulder and replied cheerfully.
"Great! Just exhausted from unpacking our hundreds of boxes but you know, moving is hard work."
"Well, I wouldn't know, I've never moved."
"Trust me, it's bad. Like you know when you get a new TV and it's in the box and you have to carry it to where it needs to go?"
"Yeah."
"Imagine that, except with like a thousand TVs."
"Woah."
"Yeah."
Removing his arm from Evan, Tyler continued to talk to Craig, allowing Evan to focus on everyone else. "So, is this town always this quiet? It's no where near as noisy as where we used to live."
"Pretty much, our town doesn't have much action, you know? It's not really that popular, but it's home." Jonathan answered, smiling at Evan, trying to make him feel welcome.
"I get what you mean. It just feels a little weird, I've never lived in a place as quiet as this."
"Oh, so you lived in the city? Like London or something?"
"Yeah, we lived in the city. Constant sirens and speeding cars. I'm pretty sure the five o'clock traffic became the alarm that told us our tutors were there." Evan lied, smiling like it had been a real memory.
"Sounds annoying."
"Well, when you live with it for a while, you barely even notice it."
"Makes sense." Jonathan replied. At this point, the group of boys had pretty much broken up into pairs and started their own conversations. David and Lui. Brock and Marcel. Evan and Jonathan. Craig and Tyler. Brian joined Brock and Marcel, realizing he had no partner.
When they arrived at the school, they parted ways. Craig, Tyler and Evan all had first period together and everyone else had different classes.
"See ya later, Ev!" Jonathan said, hugging Evan goodbye. Evan returned the hug happily, saying goodbye once he pulled away, smiling.
"Later!"
Craig had to do a double take, Evan had been so calm about the hug, like he had done it a million times before. It just didn't seem right.
"Craig? You ok? You look like you've seen a ghost." Tyler asked, noticing Craig's surprise.
"I think a ghost would be more believable than what I just saw."
"What? Evan just hugged Jonathan goodbye, what's wrong with that?"
"Evan hates hugs. Or just like any contact ever. He barely lets me hug him! And I live with the guy! But he was just so calm about hugging Jonathan, he didn't push him away or anything!"
Tyler now understood why Craig had jumped in earlier when he put his arms on both of the boys' shoulders. Evan wasn't comfortable with physical contact. "I feel so insensitive now." He sighed. Craig realized what he said.
"No, it's ok! You didn't know, not a lot of people do actually. Let's just get to class, I need to get to the bottom of this mystery."
