Chapter Four: Commitment

Donning their RAD uniform, Y/n made their way to the Academy alone. They had skipped breakfast to avoid a certain unnamed demon- gosh, Lucifer can be terrifying when he wants to- and to get to school early. Mammon mentioned something about walking home together, too, and Y/n wasn't sure if they were ready for that kind of commitment yet. After all. . . Y/n sent a fleeting glance in the direction of Purgatory Hall.

"Good morning Y/n," Simeon suddenly greeted, seemingly coming out of nowhere. He matched his pace with Y/n's easily, walking with them. "Y/n? Are you alright?"

"I-I'm fine." Y/n shook their head slightly to clear their thoughts. Flustered, they sent a small smile to Simeon. "Good morning Simeon. Did you sleep well?"

Simeon pondered if he should mention his rather weird dream, then no, he wouldn't want to trouble them with something trivial. ". . .Yes." His hesitant answer made Y/n tilt their head in curiosity.

"Did you have a weird dream or something?" Y/n inquired. Simeon flusteredly averted his gaze, heat rising to his cheeks. Cute, they thought. "Don't worry Simeon, I did too. I don't know if you'd wanna hear about it, though."

"I wouldn't min-"

"Oi, oi!" Mammon interrupted abruptly, placing himself between Y/n and Simeon. "Why'd ya skip breakfast, huh? Don't ya know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Stupid human."

Mammon. . . Simeon and Y/n both disappointedly thought at the same time. Mammon shoved a small bag in Y/n's hands. "I saved this for ya! D-Don't take it the wrong way, okay?! I did it because- because-" He stumbled over his words.

"Good morning Mammon," Simeon greeted, a sigh almost present in his voice. He smiled weakly at the demon, severely disappointed. "It's kind of you to bring something to eat for Y/n."

"Urk- Ye-Yeah! It is kind of me, huh? Well, the Great Mammon always knows what's best!" He boasted proudly. "Aren't ya gonna thank the Great Mammon, Y/n?"

"Thanks, Mammon." I could've just gotten something from the cafeteria, though. Unlike Simeon, Y/n didn't put in much effort to hide their disappointment. With an audible sigh, they peeked inside the bag. Yeah, I'm definitely not eating that. Ew. Who's turn was it to cook today?

"That looks disgusting," a voice commented nonchalantly. When Y/n turned to look, the other person smiled. "Good morning you three."

At Solomon's words, Mammon sent a sharp glare in his direction. "It's not disgusting."

"Hey Solomon. I forgot you were an early riser," Y/n laughed. "Speaking of early risers. . . Did you wake up early to walk with us today, Mammon?"

"N-No! O-Of course not!" He eagerly dismissed the thought. "I just thought I'd get up early to.. To study! Yeah, that's it!"

Solomon chuckled at that. "Study? Did I hear that right?"

"Y-Yeah!"

"Eeh? But you never study, Mammon!" A young voice exclaimed. He almost had to jog to keep up with the group.

Mammon crossed his arms. "I do study, chihuahua! Whaddya doin' anyway? Aren't little kids supposed to sleep in or something?"

"I am not a chihuahua or a little kid!" Luke objected immediately. "And I usually get up at this time!"

"Yes, he does. We transfer students usually walk together in the mornings. Y/n is a little earlier than usual today, though," Solomon explained, a small, teasing smile dancing on his lips.

"Sounds dumb!" Mammon tch'd, turning his head away.

He's jealous, isn't he? The transfer students simultaneously thought at that moment.

-Later. . .-

Recently, Y/n had noticed that Mammon hung around much more than usual. I wonder why?

". . .As expected of the Great Mammon!" He finished telling a story that was most likely fake, a wide grin on his face. A barely noticeable blush dusted his cheeks as he trained his eager eyes on Y/n.

They yawned in response, stretching their arms upward lazily. "That's cool," Y/n drawled, badly feigning interest.

"Of course it is! It's the Great Mammon we're talkin' about, after all!" He practically cheered, hanging on Y/n's every word. After receiving validation, Mammon rambled on about whatever has been happening in his life lately.

I wonder if I should text Simeon. . . Would that be weird? If I just texted him out of the blue? Y/n wondered, playing with their phone idly. "Wooow, Mammon, that's sooo cool.. Wow, really?" They absentmindedly chipped in a few compliments, not really listening. Mm, should I? Maybe I should ask Asmo for advice. He'd probably know about this kinda stuff. Will Simeon text me first?.. No, probably not.

". . .- bed?" Mammon's voice wormed it's way in Y/n's ear. "Y/n?"

"Huh?" Y/n tuned back in, blinking their eyes rapidly to adjust. "What'd you say?"

"I said, shouldn't you be headin' to bed now? It's gettin' late. . ." he trailed off, mumbling something at the end. Y/n had to strain their ears to hear it. "If you don't go to bed, maybe I should carry ya there.. For a price, of course! Don't take it the wrong way, okay?!"

"Carry me? Hm, let me think. . ." Would Simeon carry me to bed? Just thinking about it gives me a rush!

"F-For carryin' ya, I-I want a thousand grimm!" Mammon nervously requested, somewhat in shock. G-Gah! Why did Y/n agree?! He thought to himself.

"A thousand? Then no, count me out. I'm saving my money," Y/n instantly declined. Mammon isn't exactly a dream prince, either. Speaking of dream princes, I hope I have that dream again. I want to see who the Prince is. It's probably just Diavolo though. . .

"I-It'll be free of charge ju-just this once!" He blurted out.

Wish I could accept his offer but. . . Sorry Mammon, but I don't want to lead you on. "Nah, I'm okay. See you tomorrow, Mammon." Y/n waved goodbye, quickly retreating into their room.

Mammon stood there at a loss of words, feeling defeated. He sighed. Wish the potion worked faster. Fall in love with me already, Y/n!
