Chapter 3

Chapter 3

●●●

Jungkook just stopped thinking too much about it. Ignored the fact that, the moment he opened the door to his apartment, he let something in that wasn't human. That was dangerous. Had threatened to kill him. Instead he acted like nothing weird was happening at all.

That the boy was just that. A boy. Someone Jungkook allowed to stay over for whatever reason.

He couldn't allow himself to think about anything else. If he did he would probably lose his goddamn mind. And he was too cold. Felt too weak to really think about it. Hell, he was leaning on that creature. Had to let the guy help him inside of his apartment because of how dizzy he still was.

His lungs were still burning. He was so thirsty, but the thought of water made him feel sick to his stomach.

Once he had slipped off his shoes he led the boy to his bedroom. How weird how much the context could change a situation. At any other day Jungkook would have felt excited to lead such a pretty boy to his bedroom. Horny.

But now all he felt was the cold and his oddly calm heartbeat. At least considering the situation.

The one thing he wished for the most was to just stop existing for a while. Until he felt better. But that wasn't an option, so instead he pulled some dry clothes from his wardrobe. First he handed a pile to the thing, since he apparently knew what to do with those anyways.

"I'll have to go take a shower." The thought of water was bad... but the cold was sitting deep in his bones and he knew he'd need the warmth a hot shower could give him. Otherwise he would be freezing all night.

The creature looked at him and for the first time Jungkook could really see him in proper lighting. He was just as pretty as Jungkook had assumed before. His eyes entirely devoid of any color. Just a pale, gray shade. Just like everything else about him seemed so colorless. His pale skin. His hair. But even then, there was something so... hypnotizing about him. Jungkook had a hard time even looking away.

After a couple of seconds of staring at each other the boy nodded and then ran his eyes over Jungkook's room. Almost... curiously. Jungkook tore his gaze away from the creature to go and turn on the heating system. He needed some more warmth.

To his surprise the boy just followed him to the bathroom... and Jungkook didn't even try to get rid of him. He wasn't going to risk setting that creature off over something as stupid as not wanting to be naked in front of it. He didn't even know if it made any difference to whatever the thing was.

So he peeled his wet clothes off his body. His body temperature had to be way too low right now. Everything about him felt cold. The creature sat down on the free space next to the sink. Feeling watched Jungkook tried to get rid of his clothes quicker, but because of the dizziness still messing with his head it only made him tumble. He just about managed to catch himself. The thing hadn't reacted at all.

Jungkook wondered whether it could feel... guilt. Was he watching Jungkook and feeling bad because he had been the one to cause the state Jungkook was in? Certainly, didn't seem like it. His eyes were completely void of any emotion when Jungkook looked up once he had finished undressing.

It was unsettling how much like a statue the boy looked. Still in his wet clothes, the dry ones Jungkook had handed him simply set down next to him. He just sat there, completely unmoving. The only thing that didn't stay entirely still were his eyes as he followed Jungkook's movements.

Jungkook pulled the curtain closed as soon as he was in the shower. Something about the creature's gaze scared him. There was something so terrifying about someone who looked like he was human... but clearly wasn't.

Luckily the thing didn't seem to have any problems with not seeing him like this so Jungkook got to turn on the faucet in peace. The warm water was oddly calming. Maybe it should have made him anxious after almost drowning just recently, but now that it was running over his body, he found that he didn't have as much of an issue with it as he had thought. It just soothed his freezing body.

The thing he really was scared of was sitting by the sink right now.

He took his time showering. Once his body had gotten used to the warmth, he turned it scorching hot because he needed that. Even though his body was no longer cold he still felt like it was. Maybe because of the blood loss... He'd really had a long day, hadn't he?

Suddenly all his worries from before. Minji. This whole town being boring... they all seemed so far away. So unimportant when he had a literal threat to his life sitting in his bathroom after a near death experience.

God, he wanted his boring life from before back if this was how he'd get that wish fulfilled. If there was a god out there he certainly had a mean sense of humor.

When he stepped out of the shower the creature had also changed. He was now wearing a wide t-shirt Jungkook had given him simply because he had no idea about the guy's size and just thought his frame seemed a bit wider than his own and some sweatpants. The underwear Jungkook had given the boy was still lying next to the sink, completely ignored.

Not that Jungkook cared much about whether the guy was wearing underwear or not. He was decent. But there was something else that caught his attention. By the guy's ankles, where smooth skin should have been, was a small patch of skin that wasn't covered in human skin, but in black scales. Not like any he had seen on a fish before. They were oddly big. Each of them a few centimeters wide.

So he really was a creature of the ocean. No vampire after all. The fact that Jungkook didn't have a name for whatever it was certainly didn't make things easier.

The thing seemed to notice his gaze and suddenly they were gone. Smooth skin in their place. When Jungkook looked up he was once again met with emotionless, unsettlingly gray eyes. What was he supposed to do now? Just... continue with his day while this thing was watching?

What did he even want? He'd gotten his chance to kill Jungkook but hadn't... so why was he still here?

"I'll... drink something. Is that alright?" Should he just do that? Ask the thing for permission for everything he was doing? Maybe he could find out what it was doing here... but that would be a little difficult considering the boy didn't talk.

The boy opened his hand in a movement like 'Go ahead.' Once again the way he moved was weirdly human considering how oddly he behaved at other times. Like he had picked up some human mannerisms but at the same time lacked the basics. All of them.

Jungkook found himself being watched as he gulped down three glasses of water. For a second it felt like he was drowning once again, but that feeling quickly passed. He needed all that water, since the salt seemed to have sucked all of it out of his system.

"If..." Jungkook hesitated, turning around and almost startling at how close the thing was to him. He had moved from standing in the doorframe to right next to Jungkook. "If you're hungry you could take something from the fridge... I have no idea what you usually eat but maybe there is something you would like." His voice was still weak but he was starting to sound more like himself now.

He still felt so dizzy though. He was sure he'd pass out the second his head hit the pillow. The one thing keeping him awake and on his tiptoes right now was his guest.

He watched as the thing opened his fridge and scanned over the things he had inside. Jungkook wasn't really all that stocked up right now, but hopefully it would find something... and not eat Jungkook instead if he suddenly decided that he was hungry after all.

What the thing ended up choosing was a whole ass chicken Jungkook had bought to make some chicken stock. Jungkook watched him in confusion as he pulled off the wrapping while sitting down by the table. He had expected him to take something like the leftover soup he had in there or... just something that was in an edible state, but the boy didn't bother.

Instead he tore off one of the chicken legs and Jungkook watched in horror as he just bit down on it, the bones crunching between his teeth. The sound made Jungkook feel even more unsettled than the way he looked while eating. His teeth were still a lot sharper than a human's were supposed to be.

He flinched as the creature took another bite, simply leaving behind a clean bite mark on the drumstick. For some reason Jungkook felt like throwing up again... this could have been him. It almost had been him. If the creature hadn't had a sudden change in plans that would be him right now.

He realized just how close he had been to dying. No one would have ever found out what had happened to him because there would have been nothing left.

No matter how bad he felt right now... at least he was still alive.

After drinking some more water and watching the thing slowly take apart the whole chicken – Jungkook had to stop himself from gagging a couple of times – he found himself in his bedroom with his phone in hand. The creature was sitting on his bed, expectantly looking at him.

Luckily his phone had survived the dive, at least it seemed to have. Eunji had responded, but Jungkook didn't bother reading her text. He had more important things on his mind. Maybe he should send an SOS message to his friends... but he didn't want to put them in danger. After all this thing was capable of easily killing him. He was certain all his friends would end up with the same fate if he dared to ask them for help.

Police wasn't an option either. The thing was constantly watching him, so he couldn't call them... and Jungkook was scared that trying to get it to leave him alone would potentially make it decide to kill him. So far, the boy hadn't shown any aggression towards him since almost drowning him... and Jungkook wanted to keep it that way.

So, he decided not to do anything. He just put his phone in a small container with rice to make sure it would keep working before moving towards his bed where the boy was sitting.

"Uhm... you could sleep on the sofa... or I could if you want the bed." Jungkook tried, he didn't want to share the room with that thing to sleep. The mere thought scared him. What if he woke up in the middle of the night to its claws on his throat again? The image alone frightened him.

But to his dismay the thing shook its head and moved to the floor where he sat down, pointing at the ground. So he was planning to keep his eyes on Jungkook. He had to suppress a sigh.

"Should I sleep on the floor so you can have the bed?" Maybe he could gain that thing's favor. While he wasn't too fond of sleeping on the floor, he certainly prioritized his life over a warm bed.

To his surprise the creature shook its head. Jungkook furrowed his brows.

"Are you sure? The floor is hard and you probably won't be able to sleep."

Once again the thing nodded. Nevertheless, Jungkook was worried. What if the thing woke up in a bad mood because of how hard the floor was and then it might take out its anger on Jungkook? A cold shiver ran down his spine.

He couldn't allow that to happen.

So he grabbed the second blanket lying on his bed and tugged it down onto the floor. He also got a pillow from the wardrobe. Said something like "Wait a second." before slipping into his living room, where he collected all the pillows he had and walked back to his room. The creature was curiously watching him again as Jungkook prepared the floor to be as comfortable as he possibly could. In a way, his life depended on it before turning to the boy, who was mustering his makeshift bed.

"There. It's not much, but I hope it's comfortable."

For a few seconds the creature just looked at him and just when Jungkook was growing restless again he nodded before sitting down on the makeshift bed, just to almost get swallowed up by the pillows. If Jungkook hadn't been so fucking anxious he probably would have noticed how cute it looked when the guy practically disappeared in the bed, but right now all he could focus on was his face, searching for any signs of discomfort. But the thing seemed content, leaning back and lying down.

It took a big load off his mind. Once again Jungkook realized how dizzy he felt. He still had to brush his teeth in theory, but he didn't even trust his legs to take him to the bathroom and back and he also didn't want to make the creature get up again when it looked comfortable and content for now.

So Jungkook simply slipped into his bed next to that thing. Maybe it should have taken him some time to fall asleep next to such a scary creature, but despite the danger he was gone the second he pulled his blankets up to his shoulders. He'd had a long day after all.
