Chapter 1
Chapter 1
●●●
Taehyung had never quite understood Jimin's obsession with humans. With the beauty that supposedly came with them. He really didn't get it. Jimin was beautiful. The ocean was beautiful. The night sky was beautiful. But not those fake lights. Those burning, artificial lights humans created.
Neither were the other things they created even remotely beautiful. They were rough and crude. Nothing about them had the fine, delicate feel nature had to it. Instead they destroyed nature as they grew more and more in numbers.
They seemed to view themselves as kings of the world. Like they were special. Not realizing just how vulnerable and weak they actually were. Too blind to be aware of the dangers that laid on the bottom of the ocean. Right underneath them. As if they had wilfully chosen to ignore it.
Taehyung leaned back, his tail lazily flicking out of the water for a moment as he stared at the lights. Jimin had always seemed enraptured by their beauty, but Taehyung didn't get it. All he felt when he saw them was the urge to destroy.
He let himself sink a bit deeper into the water. Here, near the coast, the water didn't feel as good as out in the ocean. It was too dirty. Mixed with oil, plastic and all the other shit humans polluted the oceans not giving a single care.
Nevertheless, he couldn't leave. After all he was here for a reason. He was hungry.
As if on cue he heard a voice. Not far away. About a hundred or maybe two hundred meters from where he was floating in the water. Slowly he eyed the surrounding coast, searching for the source. When he properly located it, he moved closer.
It was a guy, standing on top of the cliffs, staring out into the ocean. He was talking. Maybe to himself. Taehyung didn't know, but he also didn't quite care. If there were more humans than just him that would only mean he'd get more to fill his stomach with. His hunger might be sated for longer than a week if he was lucky.
So he slipped even closer, soft tunes drifting from his lips as he opened his lips. He could tell that the boy could hear him. He'd stopped talking, his head turning more into Taehyung's direction. The cliffs he was standing on were about five meters high. The boy probably wouldn't even have noticed him if Taehyung had been human. But he wasn't and his voice could subconsciously attract from kilometers away, so of course the boy heard him without any issue.
When Taehyung was close enough to the cliff he started singing louder as he watched the boy inch towards the edge of. There was a railing between him and the ocean. The black ocean.
But that didn't stop him. Slowly he climbed over it, enthralled by Taehyung's voice.
Taehyung could almost taste him on his tongue already. The boy was still too far away for him to even smell him, but Taehyung was looking forward to his meal. Hungry and excited at the aspect of pulling the human underwater.
And then the boy jumped. He missed the rocks beneath the cliff by just a tiny bit and it really wasn't clear if he was lucky or not since it was the quicker less painful way to go. Startled by the cold water he seemed to come back to his senses, struggling to get back to the surface.
Taehyung let him, swimming closer. The moment the boy broke through the surface they made eye contact and for a second the boy seemed relieved. Probably because he wasn't on his own in the cold water. Someone else was there who could help.
But that relief didn't last long. Taehyung dipped down and pulled the human with him. Almost instantly his body began thrashing around, trying to loosen the grip of Taehyung's claws around his leg, but he couldn't.
Once they were deep enough, Taehyung let go of the boy's leg. He liked watching his pray struggle. Try to get back to the surface. The boy did, hastily moving upwards, but Taehyung just tugged him back down.
He could hear the boy trying to scream. That would just make him lose consciousness even faster though. Taehyung swam past the boy almost provokingly, flicking his tail against him. Almost instantly the water started to taste differently. The boy was bleeding now. Not too profusely, but one of Taehyung's scales must have cut him.
It made him feel even hungrier. He slipped closer again as the boy weakly tried to push his hands off, but there wasn't as much vigor in his movements as before. He was already growing weak. The lack of oxygen slowing his movements as he tried to stop Taehyung from tugging him even deeper.
He fought for his survival. All for nothing. The human could do absolutely nothing as Taehyung pulled him closer, enjoying the scent of blood in the water around him. The boy tried to push Taehyung away, thrashed in his arms, but he only cut himself more whenever his feet got into contact with Taehyung's tail.
Slowly the boy seemed to lose consciousness in his arms. Taehyung waited for all the fight to leave him. It wasn't the most comfortable to eat while his food was still thrashing around.
But then his thoughts wandered back to Jimin. How comfortable he had seemed with humans. With the thought of never killing one ever again, even though it was in his nature. Their nature. But still Jimin seemed to happy living on land with that boy he had found for himself.
Taehyung wasn't miserable. He loved the ocean. Loved roaming it. But it had come to the point where eating was the highlight of his day. He felt bored. Knew too much. Had lived too long. And he envied Jimin for what he had found.
That happiness. Maybe Taehyung could find something similar too. Find out whatever it was about humans that made him this happy. He stared at the unconscious boy in his arms. Bleeding. No longer struggling. If he wanted to learn more about humans he'd need a guide. Someone to show him around. With a place to stay. Someone who could cover for the fact that Taehyung certainly wasn't human.
With a few strong flicks of his tail they were by the rocks. Taehyung easily lifted the boy out of the water. The fact that he just hung in his arms like a rag doll did make it a bit easier. With a bit of effort Taehyung shifted. Switched his tail out for legs and climbed out of the water next to the boy.
Taehyung had expected the guy to come to himself once they were back on land, but he wasn't breathing. The cuts on his legs were still bleeding strongly. His eyes remained closed as his bangs clung to his forehead.
There was too much water in his lungs Taehyung assumed. But that just meant he would have to get it out. He put his hand on the boy's chest and slowly moved it upwards. He was careful. He couldn't afford to accidentally destroy his guide's lungs as he lead the water out of his body. Once the water had reached his mouth, Taehyung simply tilted his head to the side to let it run out. Drip back into the ocean. But the human still wasn't taking the breath he needed.
So Taehyung leaned forward and pressed his lips to the boy's, pinching his nose closed before forcing air down into his lungs. He continued for a couple of seconds when the other's body suddenly surged forward, almost bumping their heads together as he started coughing, his body trying to rid itself of the water that wasn't there any longer.
Taehyung moved back and watched in silence as the boy held his chest, his whole body wet and shaking. It seemed like there were tears in his eyes too, but it was hard to tell in the dark. After a couple of wheezing breathes the boy let his head hang low before turning to him, still shaking. The second they made eye contact the his eyes widened. Taehyung could see fear flashing through them. The boy's body moved almost instantly as he tried to get up, but he only stumbled and hurt his legs even more. His body wasn't properly working yet. Not after almost drowning. There was still that sweet scent of blood in the air, but Taehyung chose to ignore it. He had other plans for him now. So instead he grabbed the boy by his leg and pulled him back to where he was sitting. The other let out a pained gasp, but Taehyung didn't care.
Instead he wrapped his fingers around his victim's throat, his long claws resting against his skin. A fair warning. The boy was still shaking, staring at Taehyung with terrified eyes. Right now it really would have made things easier if Taehyung had been capable of human tongue. Should have tried harder when Jimin had tried to teach him.
He was going to get his message across either way though. So he hissed warningly, squeezing his hands around the boy's throat tighter until he whimpered, this time very obviously crying. But then Taehyung let go of the human's throat and the boy coughed once again, his hand shooting up to his neck. There were small tears in the skin where Taehyung's claws had been. No bigger than a paper cut.
Unlike the ones at his legs. They looked deeper. Taehyung had to stop his mouth from watering as he moved down, running his hands over the cuts to stop the blood from flowing. While the boy still seemed scared out of his mind he no longer tried to run away. He was just watching him, his body shaking in fear... or maybe it was the cold.
He leaned down, licking up the excess blood, shivering at the sweet taste, but he stopped himself from taking a bite. Not food... for now. So instead he slowly ran his tongue over the cuts, watching them close up when he was done.
The boy said absolutely nothing. Just stared. Something else but fear mixed in his gaze now. He watched Taehyung with wide eyes as he lapped up the blood. When he was done, the his legs looked like nothing had ever happened to them.
When he and Taehyung made eye contact again the human looked curious but like he wanted to run away at the same time. He was still shivering, his clothes clinging to his body, wet and heavy. They weren't going to dry soon either, given how cold it was.
"What... what are you?" The boy whispered, voice croaky and weak. He had almost drowned after all.
Even if Taehyung had wanted to answer, he couldn't have. Not with his lack of speech. So instead he got up and pulled the other up with him, forcing him to his feet. But the second he stood the boy's eyes widened as he dropped back to his knees and started throwing up.
Taehyung scrunched up his nose at the awful smell as the kneeling boy coughed weakly, his body swaying as his stomach emptied itself from everything that was inside. For a second Taehyung considered turning away, but then he started swaying too much and almost fell to his side and Taehyung caught the human just in time to stop him from hitting his head on the rocks.
When Taehyung forced the boy to look at him he blinked up at him weakly, his eyes seemingly not quite focusing on him. "Fuck, sorry, I'm dizzy and..." He threw up again and Taehyung had to force himself not to gag.
He had to get the boy to somehow... do what Taehyung wanted him to do without having any means of communication. This was not going to be easy.
