It was late in the morning when April awoke from her sleep in a daze, with a throbbing head. She wondered when she even fell asleep, but what surprised her the most was that she woke up at Nikolaj's cottage. In his bed. She can't even recall going to bed, since she was in front of the fireplace all night long. Nikolaj must have carried her to his room when she fell asleep.

She pushed the heavy blanket off her body and got off the bed, tiredly and very quietly strolling into his small living room. Nikolaj was still asleep, laying on the far too small couch with his arm tugged behind his head. He didn't even bring a pillow or a blanket for himself. Even the fire of the fireplace burnt out long ago. Not the most comfortable place to sleep.

She wondered if she should wake him up and let him know that she was about to leave, but as soon as she was about to decide, Nikolaj already stirred awake. He rubbed his eyes and looked at her with sleepy eyes.

"Morning," she whispered and kneeled in front of him. Green orbs were watching her, probably confused why she was here. It was most likely he also forgot that she had stayed the night and only now remembered that she slept over at his place. "Sorry if I woke you up. I'm going home."

"You didn't," he reassured her in a thick voice. His face fell into a frown when she told him she was going back home. "Breakfast?" He asked as he slowly pushed himself up, leaning his weight on his elbows.

His hair was disheveled and he looked like he didn't catch much sleep last night. April was sure he didn't. And she didn't either. Too much had happened last night. It kept her from sleeping. She was still very tired.

A smile flickered on her lips, but she shook her had. She would love to have breakfast with him, but she needed to go home and check on her brother. She didn't know about the curse of a turned Lycan until last night and had to know if Eric was alright.

"Thank you, but I'm not really hungry," April responded with a small smile. "Go back to sleep. I will come tomorrow again, okay?"

He nodded.

--

As soon as April stepped inside the apartment, she searched for her brother. It didn't even take her ten seconds to find him in the kitchen. He was drinking his usual cup of coffee. Her eyes traveled all over his face. He looked horrible, very tired and drained of energy. He had dark circled under his eyes and looked quite pale. Her brother was staring back at her, a face absolutely void of emotions.

"Where have you been?" He asked. His voice sounded strange, very unfamiliar and throaty.

"I was at Nikolaj's," she said. Eric quirked his eyebrows at that. Though he was too tired to show any emotions, April could tell that he was quite surprised, confused even. She crossed her arms. "He told me about last night." She glared at him first, but then her eyes softened.

Eric put his mug aside and buried his face in his face. He looked miserable and April felt bad for bringing this topic up, but they needed to talk about this. She couldn't just pretend that she didn't know.

"Look, I'm sorry-"

"No you're not," she interrupted him. She felt irritated with his lame apology. "Don't tell me you're sorry about this, because I know that you're not. If all things would go your way, I would have never found out, am I right?"

Her words silenced Eric. There was nothing he could say, he tongue suddenly knotted, making him unable to speak. He just stared at her with tired eyes filled with remorse.

April approached him and took him in her arms. "Are you alright?" She asked in a silent voice.

She felt him nodding before answering. "Yeah," he breathed tiredly.

"What happens when you.. transform?" She asked hesitantly, afraid she might hear something she doesn't want to know.

Eric stiffened for a moment. He clearly didn't expect to be asked this kind of question. Slowly, he pulled away from her and looked at her with uncertainty. The look April gave him, however, made clear that she wouldn't tolerate any excuses or lies.

"I don't know," he answered after long moments. He saw her eyes clouding with doubt. "It's the truth. I don't really know what happens when I'm transformed. Before every full moon I feel pain, heavy pain. And the transformation isn't that painless either," he explained and chuckled dryly. "I think my human brains shuts off during that time. I can't even explain it properly."

April just nodded. "How are you feeling?"

"Like shit," Eric answered truthfully. He rubbed his face, not really wanting to talk about it. It was a very uncomfortable topic. "There's nothing worse than waking up somewhere in the bushes not even knowing what you did all night long."

--

A day had passed and April was excited to see Nikolaj again. She got an old mobile phone from Eric. He didn't use it anymore since it was one of the older models, but it did still work very fine. She thought to give it to Nikolaj, since he didn't own a phone, or anything electronic for that matter.

She only hoped he wouldn't be one of those people who don't know how to use a phone, or write a simple text message.

She pulled over at his cottage and grabbed the phone before getting out of the car. April knocked on the door, but then noticed that it was already open. She heard soft sobs from as soon as she stepped inside. A frown settled on her forehead.

Was someone crying? Nikolaj?

Walking straight towards the sound, she was surprised to see a woman crying on Nikolaj's shoulder. He held her head softly, caressing her with soft circles. It took her long seconds to remember where she had seen her.

It was the day when she'd been at Viktor's mansion. April saw her only briefly, when Viktor shouted for her to carry the wine into the dinning room. Natalya was her name, if she recalled right.

Nikolaj raised his eyes and watched her silently. He whispered something into her ear, too silent for her to catch the words he spoke. Nikolaj released her slowly and walked to April.

"I'm sorry for interrupting," she apologized, but he only shook his head

"You're not," was his response. "Come." He titled his head to the couch.

April gave the woman a small smile as she took a seat on the couch. It was an awkward situation. Nikolaj had left the living room for a few minutes and April and Natalya were sitting quietly across from each other. Nobody spoke and April didn't feel like speaking.

It was an uncomfortable silence.

Natalya watched her with open curiosity and wariness. Her long and blonde hair was disheveled, she had dark bags under the eyes and her face was smeared with mascara from all the tears that were falling from her eyes. Despite the fact that she'd been crying, she had a strong glint in her eyes.

April was relieved when Nikolaj came back into the living room. He brought a kleenex box for Natalya. She wiped the tears off of her face and smeared more mascara over her face.

"Chto takoye chelovek zdes' delayet?" Natalya asked. Her voice was very croaky but surprisingly strong at the same time.

Her eyes then fell on April and she wondered if whatever she had said was about her.

"Stop," Nikolaj responded firmly. His body was tense, hands clenched into tight fists. Whatever that woman said, Nikolaj didn't seem to like what he had heard. "Ona yavlyayetsya drugom." Natalya huffed, but didn't utter a word since then. Nikolaj's response made her shut her mouth.

Natalya left after she dried her tears and didn't feel like crying anymore. April felt bad for whatever happened to her, but at the same time she had to admit grudgingly that she was relieved that she was gone. Somethings told her that Natalya wasn't really keen on spending another five minutes with April either.

"She has a problem with Viktor," he spoke when he noticed her questioning look. "She works for him and is treated badly." He took a seat next to her. Nikolaj looked miserable and it was obvious to see that he worried about Natalya.

He then told her that she also was an orphan, like him, and that they knew each other since childhood. She listened to the memories he told her and how Viktor had found them on the streets and took them with him. April was surprised to hear that, but this explained the closeness between those two.

"How are you?" Nikolaj suddenly asked, startling her out of her thoughts.

"Fine I guess. What about you?" She searched for possible wounds on his arms, but there were none. They must have healed since he was attacked very badly by those Lycans.

"Fine."

Her lips quirked up into a small. She pulled the phone out of her pocket and hold it out for him. Nikolaj watched her with a questioning look in his eyes. "You don't have a phone, do you?" He shook his head. "I saved my number in the phone. It's easier to stay in contact like that."

The expression on Nikolaj's face was unreadable. He took the phone in silence and observed it like it was his first time seeing a phone. His eyes fell back on her, staring at her.

April's smile fell and she frowned. "Don't you know how to use it? Here, I can show you." She leaned towards him and took the phone.

She turned it on and went on speaking about phone calls and how to write a text message, but after a couple of minutes she noticed that Nikolaj wasn't listening at all!

He was still staring at her with deep green orbs. April trailed off mid-sentence. Nikolaj slowly lifted his hand and started playing with the ends of her hair, twisting a thin strand of hair with his finger. His other hand was caressing her cheek, soft fingertips trailing down to her lips, to her chin.

Her heart began to beat wildly in response to him when he leaned forward, so close she could hear him breathing. April was trembling, anticipation was burning her. His hand went to the back of her head, pushing her head forward to meet his lips.

April knew what he intended to do, but she was still surprised and shocked at the same time when she felt his lips on her own. It took her long seconds to get over the shock until she moved her lips, kissing him back.

His lips were warm and very soft. He held her face close, leaving no room to escape. Not that she wanted to escape his sweet mouth. She feverishly kissed him back, hands trailing down his chest, enjoying the firm feeling beneath her hands.

He was pleased that she responded to his kiss. With his thumb he drew slow circles on her chin, slowly pushing her mouth apart and signalizing her to open her mouth for him. His tongue slowly trailer over her bottom lip and into her mouth.

His hands left her face, slowly trailing further down to her delicate hips, pushing her into his chest. It was an overwhelming feeling for both of them. Nikolaj grew bold with each second, touching her everywhere, large hands touching her breasts over the fabric of her shirt. April moaned quietly, the sound stifled by Nikolaj's mouth.

It was a moment of pure bliss. And sadly, a very short one. They slowly pulled away, both trying to catch their breaths. A soft smile grazed over Nikolaj's lips and April could feel a smile of her own forming her mouth.

--

Half an hour later they were back at Eric's place. Since her brother wasn't at home at this time, she took advantage of the situation and invited Nikolaj over. She thought of cooking him dinner and spending some time with him. Over the last few days she noticed that he smiled more often and talked more, though it wasn't that often.

Both were in the kitchen. Nikolaj was sitting at the table, watching April with curious eyes. He offered his help earlier, but she refused. She noticed abashed that neither her or Eric had bothered to go shopping, so she didn't have a wide choice of meals she could cook.

So, she decided to make simple spaghetti, one of the easier foods, but still very delicious. To her relief, Nikolaj enjoyed the food and ate two whole plates. After the food, he helped her with the dishes.

She refused his help once again, but Nikolaj wasn't having none of it and helped her anyway with drying the dishes and placing them back into the cupboards.

After a short time, they spent the rest of the day in April's bedroom. Nikolaj was sitting on her bed, while April was lying on her stomach next to him.

"You talked to your brother?" He murmured.

"Yeah," April whispered. "I was worried about him, but I think he's fine. Well, at least that's what he had told me. He just looked very tired."

Nikolaj hummed simply in response. April titled her head and scanned his face. "You are not exactly friends with my brother, am I right?"

Nikolaj shook his head. "We're not friends."

"What about you and Shawn? Aren't you two close either?"

"We're not."

April chewed on her lip. She already figured that much, but still hoped she was wrong. Nikolaj had no one. "Why's that? I mean, I can understand why you aren't close to Shawn, he's a bit of an ass. But my brother is fine."

Nikolaj shrugged his shoulders. April gauged his reaction, searching his eyes for emotions, but there were none. She propped on her elbow and took his hand in hers.

"You're always welcome here, you know that?"

His eyes softened visibly. His fingers tightened around her hand. "I know." Nikolaj watched her for a moment, before slowly bent down to her face, desiring her lips.

April's eyes fluttered shut when she felt his lips on her own once again. Her entire body was on fire, her heart thumbing wildly against her chest. She pulled him closer, wanted to feel him pressed against her body.

Nikolaj moved his hands to her hips, caressing her skin. Goosebumps perked all over her skin after his touch. She gasped loudly when he boldly moved his hand to the edge of her bra. He shoved it away, releasing her breasts from the bra that was hindering him to enjoy her soft skin.

Nikolaj flicked her nípple, before he all of sudden broke the kiss and grabbed her arm, pulling her up and tugging her over her head very impatiently. He threw the shirt somewhere on the ground.

His eyes were filled with desire and April shuddered in anticipation. He was about to ravish her. As fast as he threw her shirt aside, he also got rid of her bra. She was now sitting bare chested in front of him, panting heavily.

He attacked her mouth once again, while his hands caressed her breasts. His mouth moved down to her neck. A cry fell over her lips when his tongue darted out an ran down the column of her neck. She was quivering, her skin prickling with desire. Every fiber of her body was on fire because of him.

He dipped his head down to her breasts, kissing and licking her skin. April was shivering under his touch, burning.

"You're beautiful," he softly murmured into her ear with his accented voice. She wanted to respond, but she was unable to utter a word.

April maneuvered her hands to his chest, pulling at his shirt. It took him long moments and several kisses until he got the message and pulled away, getting rid of the shirt. April run her hands up and down his chest, enjoying every inch of his skin.

It seemed like a lifetime when all clothes were scattered on the ground, leaving them with nothing on but their skin. Nikolaj slowly turned her around and placed gentle kisses all over her neck. His head disappeared in her hair, breathing in her scent with high approval. She smelled divine.

April's hair fell back against his chest, her eyelids grew heavy. Nikolaj pressed himself against her opening, burying himself inside her with a quick thrust. Their bodies moved in a sync, enjoying every single second.

April moaned, overwhelmed with her feelings. A thundering shiver rushed through her and she fell on the mattress. Not a moments later she felt Nikolaj groaning in pleasure before he fell down over her back, breathing harshly.

He stroked her back, pulling her up and maneuvering her head to his chest. April was still breathing heavily, just as Nikolaj was. She couldn't believe what they had done.

Her eyes flitted to his face only to notice that he was already watching her with an intensity that made her shiver once again. A lazy and small smile appeared on his lips and April's stomach clenched in delight.

"I wasn't too rough?"

His question surprised her. He looked worried, afraid even. She blinked at him. "No you didn't," she reassured him and caressed his chest. Nikolaj nodded and shut his eyes close, enjoying her touch.

April was about to drift to a sleep when she heard the doorbell ringing through the whole apartment, followed by a heavy knock against the door. She threw her head back into the pillow and groaned.

"You must be kidding me," she whispered to herself and pulled the sheets off her. She quickly picked up her clothes and put them on. Nikolaj followed her seconds after put his clothes on as well. She threw him a quick glance. Judging by the adorable frown on his face she could tell that he was also annoyed by the interruption.

April hurried to the door. She already knew that it couldn't be hear brother, as he had his own keys. Maybe Shawn? Without another thought she opened the door only to see that neither of her thoughts had been confirmed.

She frowned. She didn't knew the man in front of her, nor did she recognize him from the people she had seen in Rosewood. He had to be in his late thirties, or early forties.

"Can I help you?" April asked confused.

Behind her Nikolaj growled dangerously. He put his arm around her waist and pressed her backwards against his chest, stepping away from the stranger.

"What's wrong?"She whispered, but he had no intention of answering.

"Calm down, boy. I mean no harm," the stranger spoke and entered the apartment, too impatient to wait to be invited in. He closed the door shut and focused his attention on Nikolaj and April. "I'm here for Eric. Where is he?" He had an unfamiliar accent, she noticed.

"He's not here right now," April responded. "Sorry, but who are you?"

"Please excuse the lack of my manners," he spoke and smiled charmingly at her. "My name is Charles."

April's frown deepened. Charles? She couldn't help but think that she had heard his name around Rosewood. It wasn't after the long silence when realization hit her like a violent thunder.

Charles Archer! The man who had turned her brother.

"You are Charles Archer?" She questioned him rather harshly.

His eyes twinkled in amusement. "I see Eric has told you about me. And you are his sister April?" It sounded more like a statement than a question.

"Yeah. How do you know?"

"He told me about you," he answered and headed off to the living room. The nerve of that man! April thought angrily as she followed after him with Nikolaj close behind. "And I could tell the relation by your smell."

He sat down on the couch, legs crossed. Charles stared at Nikolaj and April, his expression blank. "When is Eric coming back?"

"I don't know."

Charles nodded. "Do you know what he is, girl?" He nodded towards Nikolaj, but didn't spare him a single glance.

April nodded. "I do."

"You don't realize how disgusting that is, do you?" He asked. That confused her even more, even Nikolaj. "Giving yourself to him. It's a disgrace. You should stick to your own race. You both should."

"Excuse me? I don't think that's any of your business. I didn't ask for your opinion," April spat angrily.

Nikolaj, however, wasn't just angry- he was furious. His breathing was harsh. He pushed April behind himself and stormed off to Charles, who quickly jumped of to his feet. Nikolaj grabbed his neck and squeezed him tightly. April gasped.

"Nik, stop!"

According to her brother, this man was one of the last remaining full-breed Lycans roaming earth. And if he was anything like the full-breed Lycans she had heard of, he had to be strong and at least a couple of hundred years older than both of them. He was much stronger Nikolaj could ever be! Which only confused her even more, Nik should knew that he would stand no chance against him. Her stomach knotted with fear.

"Now what, boy?" Charles mocked, but his tone was seriously low. She was surprised that he still had a sense of humor in this kind of situation, or that he still managed to speak without a croaky voice. "Do you want to hurt me in front of your human girlfriend, boy?"

"Nik, let him go," she pleaded and placed a calming hand on his back.

Angry eyes flitted over to her. Though the anger wasn't directed at her, she felt her entire body shivering. Nikolaj slowly released his grip from Charles neck. A breath of relief fell from her lips.

Charles seemed to be rather amused by Nikolaj's small outrage. He didn't seem hurt either, he didn't even have fingerprints on his neck, despite the force Nik used.

"This isn't the friendly welcoming I expected," Charles admitted and went back to the couch.

"Sorry to disappoint you," April answered sarcastically.

Charles titled his head. "You don't seem to like my much. Why?"

"Why you ask? Because of you my brother has to suffer that he is no longer human!"

"So?" He asked and seemed to be genuinely confused why her anger was directed at him. "Being a Lycan certainly does have the one or another disadvantage, but the perks are overweighting those. Your brother does enjoy the perks of being a Lycan very much."

"Really? That's not what he told me yesterday."

"Ah, the curse of the full moon," he spoke in realization, but appeared quite unfazed. "It's the small price you have to pay if you want to belong to the superior race."

Superior? This man was delusional.

"You're insane."

Charles grinned. "Maybe."

"What do you want?" It was Nikolaj who spoke this time. His patience was thinning with each second, but he was trying to restrain himself. The last thing he wanted to do was to attack Charles and frighten April. Though, he very much wanted to cause damage...

Charles scanned him with cold eyes. "I know you," he spoke. "You are Viktor strongest fighter and quite feared around here. They avoid you like the plague because they are afraid of you. It's sad, really. I pity you. But still, you are nothing but a boy, so be careful how you speak to me. Viktor clearly failed to teach you some manners."

Nikolaj's eyes blazed with fury. He snarled at him, his whole body shivering violently. She tried to hold him back, but she knew that it wouldn't be of any use if he decided to attack him. He would simply free himself from her grip with ease.

"Stop proving him!"

Charles eyes fell back to April. "Why don't we all just sit down and wait for Eric's arrival?" He suggested with a raised eyebrow. A slow smile played on his lips and he shook his head. "Seems like we don't have to wait any longer. He's here."

April's eyes narrowed for a second. Not even seconds later, she heard someone unlocking the door, followed by a firm shut of the door and heavy footsteps.

Sorry for the late update! I can't believe I didn't update for over two months. The truth is, I don't like this story very much and it gets quite difficult to continue writing this. There are a couple of chapters left and I hope I will finish the story in less than three months. I actually wanted to finish it by the end of the year but I think I can forget that now lol.. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter! I made it especially long to make up for the long wait. (4161 words)
