XIX - Question Marks

I shielded my eyes before I opened them, but it wasn't necessary. I wasn't in Theo's room, but in my own.

"Luci?" That was my mother's voice.

"Mom?" I whispered, lowering my hand. "Where's Myrsky?"

My mother sighed. "She is... d-dead."

"Oh." I got up. "So it wasn't a nightmare."

"No sweetie... It wasn't."

It felt so unreal. I found it difficult to believe what happened last night actually happened. "Why couldn't Theo heal her?" I asked.

"Did he try?"

"He didn't tell?"

"He says nothing." my mother stroked my hair, the way she did when my grandmother died. "He just sits there on his bed. Doesn't talk, doesn't move, doesn't use powers. It's almost like he doesn't live at all."

I jumped up. "I'll talk to him."

I looked up. The rift in the ceiling was closed. I had to take the stairs.
