Chapter 3: Secrets

Katakuri can't help but wonder why she'd choose to lie to him. Well, he knows why, but he never thought that she'd actually do it. She knows he's worried about her, right? He shakes his head, enters his house, and goes to the kitchen.
He stares at his siblings as they stand around, they're looking at him as if they're expecting him to tell them some kind of news, "Is there something I'm missing?"
"We know that (Y/n) came by. That's the only reason you would leave," Oven folds his arms and stares at his older brother hard. "What happened?"
"Okay, so that explains the looks," he sighs out, completely ignoring his brother's question. "But why are you all standing in the kitchen?"
"Perorin♪, why else would we be in here?" Persospero nods to the box of donuts on the island. "We bought you a treat. Now, what happened, Katakuri?"
"Nothing happened," he leans against the wall. He still doesn't understand why she's keeping something from him. "We just got caught up on each other's life's..."
"So, did you ask her?" they all say at once before he shakes his head and they all let out a disappointed sigh. "Mama isn't going to be happy, Perorin♪."
He looks to the side, thinking about the way that (Y/n) talked earlier, "She doesn't want to get married, why should I take th-"
"She doesn't have a choice, Katakuri," Daifuku pinches the bridge of his nose and looks at the crimson-haired man. "She's a woman, they don't get a choice. It's better that she marries you than some guy who doesn't love he-"
"I don't love her!" he snaps and they all take a step away from him before he lowers his voice. "Why do you guys even think that?"
"Because you're respecting her wishes of never marrying," Perospero being the first one to recover from his brother's outburst. "Most guys would marry her no matter what, she's a beautiful lady. In fact, one of these two would marry her if not for you I'm sure. But they aren't because they can tell that you're in love. Open up your eyes, brother, before it's too late. I told you yesterday, and I'll keep telling you until you finally understand. Love is about respecting one's interests. Do you know why that only one percent of married population are in love, Perorin♪?"
Katakuri shakes his head, that's one thing he's never cared about. He doesn't want to be married, so why would he care if only one percent is in love with each other? It doesn't involve him.
"Because women are treated as property," Cracker injects as he hops onto the counter, entering just as Perospero finished his question. "No man has time to respect a woman. Mama is an exception, she's intimidating, she won't let a man tell her what to do. But every other woman is submissive. They listen to anything because they believe that they can't over power a man. Maybe it's true, but that doesn't mean that we should treat them like they aren't alive. Wait, is this what you guys wanted me to say? I'm very confused on which side we're on."
"Perorin♪, I think you've confused everyone in this room," the eldest shakes his head before turning back to Katakuri. "But he's right. No one has the decency to treat ladies right. They're controlled, Katakuri. (Y/n) is no exception. She won't be able to not get married, some guy is going to ask for her hand in marriage, and she won't get the chance to decline. Her parents will-where are you going?"
"Out," he pushes the door open and stalks away.
Cracker looks at all of his older brothers, "Was it something I said?"
He actually has no clue where he's going. Why should he care if she gets married to someone else? Because Mama will be mad if he doesn't at least ask and she gets married before he even tried. His fist lands into the wall, leaving a big hole, he'll have to send some money to whoever owns this place to repair the damages.
A deep sigh escapes his lips, causing the fluff on the scarf to wave back and forth. A voice from behind him causes him to turn around. A small smile forms on his lips as he sees a girl with light pink hair, in a white flowy gown. Today she's wearing an upper arm gold bracelet and a flower crown made of leaves.
"Katakuri! I thought that was you!" she smiles and moves her head side to side. "Where's (Y/n)?"
He shrugs, this girl moved in during high school and immediately became attached to (Y/n). She then met Katakuri, he found out that she's actually Cracker's age, but she ended up completing their group. Bubblegum, that's what they call her, die to her hair. What's her real name? He doesn't remember it, in fact, he doesn't think she ever told him her real name.
"Aw... and here I thought that we could all go out and play a few games!" she's never seen his whole face, but she does know his feeling about it. "So, what are you doing out here?"
"I saw her earlier," he leans against the wall and downcasts his eyes. "She's hiding something from me. I am too, but that's only because my family is trying to get me to marry her. I don't want to take away her freedom. I want to respect the fact that she never wants to get married. I don't either..."
"Wait, you mean... she hasn't told you about the engagement?" Bubblegum scrunched her face and focuses her blue eyes on the taller man.
He shakes his head, "What engagement?"
"Well, she called me a few nights ago... and apparently there's this guy," she goes up and grabs Katakuri's hand, looking into his eyes. "He asked her parents if he could marry her. They said that they'd discuss it with her, and when they did, they had already made up their mind. Katakuri, she's supposed to marry in a few months at most."
