Chapter 14: Failure
A few days after the last meeting, Katakuri and the rest of the children in on the plan had to spew lies the whole time, they have their own meeting. Katakuri really just gets lectured by his brothers and how they had to listen to Mama's screaming for five minutes straight before Perospero told her that he was just trying to get her to see that speaking about marriage in front of... blah blah blah.
No one actually cares, right? So he kind of just nodded until Brûlée told them that he agreed to their plan. Which was apparently a good thing, because they had already contacted (Y/n) and told her that he had something to tell her. Wait, what?
They hand him his phone, which he questions how they got because he just got home not too long ago and he doesn't remembering anyone getting close enough to-it was when Brûlée first told him about the meeting. He can place a bet on it, that's how confident he is. It's underhanded, dishonorable, and... just like his family.
"Just go up to her and tell her you want to marry her," Cracker pushes him towards the door as the (h/c)-haired woman closes the door to the car she was in with her mother. "You can't go wrong with a straight forward approach."
"Well, I can," he halts his brother by placing his feet on the floor firmly, but when Brûlée starts to help, his feet slip again and he's pushed closer to the door. "What if I don't know what to say, when you guys told me that you were going to help me, I definitely thought that we were going to have more time to prepa-"
"We don't have time, brother! I love you, but you of all people should know that," Brûlée hugs him from the side as they wait in front of the door for (Y/n)'s mom to stop talking so that she can approach the door. "With every day she could be falling in love with that guy! Every day! So just dig deep! She's in love with you, she's just afraid of rejection."
He turns to face her, she doesn't look like she'll listen to anything he'll say, but he's still going to try, "But what if I'm afr-"
"Katakuri, you're a man," Cracker lets out a sigh and places a hand on his shoulder. "Own up to your own feelings."
"Like you did with Mama the ot-" Cracker's face turns into shock, then humiliation and as a knock comes from the door, he runs away. "That's nice."
"Good luck," each of the others echo Brûlée as they follow Cracker's lead and dissipate into different rooms. He hates this family, but they make him smile at the same time.
Another knock at the door causes him to snap back into reality. What exactly is he supposed to say? Is it really just a simple 'I love you, marry me?'
He doubts it, as he swings the door open, he knows that it's not going to be as easy as his siblings told him it would be. It was going to be ten times harder. There was one person they hadn't factored into the equation standing on his porch with the beautiful woman; her fiancé.
She gives him a look that tells him she's sorry, "Hey Kata-kitty!"
"Hello, (Y/n)," he gives her a nod before his eyes slide over to the male. He doesn't like him at all. First off, he's standing way too close to (Y/n); secondly, after what occurred the other day, this guy's attitude sucks.
"What did you need to talk to me about?" she walks through the door, the dark-haired man following behind her. She turns around to face Katakuri and gives him a smile. "It seemed pretty urgent, and so not like you. Did your siblings steal your phone again?"
He nods before he motions for them to take a seat, "They did, but I do need to talk to you about something (Y/n)."
"Okay," she flops down onto the couch. Her fiancé folding his arms at her, so she tilts her head, "What? I told you that you didn't have to come."
"No, I'm just thinking that your parents didn't teach you all that well. Women don't just fall onto the couch, they sit gracefully and quietly," he takes a seat next to the (h/c)-haired women. Her eyes roll, and he glares at her. "Don't roll your eyes at me."
"What are you going to do?" she scoffs "Are you going to slap me? Sorry to say, but you can't."
"If you continue to give me lip, I just might," he grabs her chin and pulls her closer to him. She can smell his breath, and she's not impressed. "In this society, I'm allowed to do whatever I want to you. Whether it's hit or kick, or r-"
"In my house, women are the ones in power, I'd be careful with whatever comes out of your mouth next," Katakuri's voice leaves his lips before he even has time to think. "And as I said previously, she's not married to you yet. You don't have any control over her until then. Therefore, if I call any kind of authority, you can still get in trouble. So, you can either leave and make this easier on yourself, or I can personally show you the way to hell. It's your choice."
"You won't get away with this. (Y/n), come home as soon as your done messing around with this... man," he storms out before Katakuri sits next to her. "And when you come home, be prepared. This isn't something you can get away with easily."
Her body is violently shaking as she forces a smile on her face, "He found out that I invited you to go dress shopping with me... so he somehow talked my mother and father into letting him stay with us. He's forcing his views into every conversation we have. That's why I couldn't be here alone... he won't let me go out without someone else."
"That's fine," he places a hand on her shoulder, she jumps slightly and he lets out a sigh. He pulls her into his lap and hugs her. "I'm here for you. If he won't let you out, I'll go over and pick you up. That should work. (Y/n)... there's something I want to tell you."
"What is it?" she looks up at him, her eyes slightly watering. "Sorry, I've just been so emotional lately..."
"It's fine," he wipes away her tears for her. "I just wanted you to know... that I want to marry you."
"Katakuri... you don't need to say that," she sniffles and wipes her nose as she feels it start to run. "You don't need to try and save me from this marriage, especially when I want you to be happily married to someone you're in love wi-"
"But I am in love with you," he sighs out. Did he just say what he think he just said? Did he just say what think she just think she heard? "I'm... in love with you. And I want to marry you."
"Katakuri..." she wraps her arms around his chest. "I-"
"Katakuri...?" he's suddenly drawn back into reality. Did he just have another premonition? "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," he mumbles. He didn't get to see her answer. "Never mind. I didn't need to tell you anything. Why... don't you stay here? I'll call your parents and explain the situation."
"I don't think that that'll work... thanks for the thought," she brushes off her pants before she stands up. "I've got to go now... thanks for standing up for me. Goodbye Kata-kitty. I'll keep you updated."
Cracker rolls his eyes and lets out a sigh. He was so close, but he let everything end in failure because he was afraid.
