Chapter 8- Bail On Jail
"What?!" Blue asked me, and I chuckled nervously.
"Uhm yeah, Aiden and I-"
"Aiden? You were with Aiden? June what the actual he-" She interrupted and I groaned in annoyance. I'll surely have a lot of explaining to do when I get back home. Woohoo.
"I know! Look, we went out to paint graffiti on some hidden street for some 'bonding time' after you fell asleep and the police caught us doing it so...yeah. Can you please just come bail me out? I swear I'll pay you back." I said desperately and I heard her laugh.
"You two are unbelievable." She started, still laughing. "I'll be right there. See ya soon." She said and I could already picture her shaking her head. I rolled my eyes at her comment but found myself smiling anyways, relieved at the fact I wouldn't have to spend the night in this place. I don't think I'd ever be the same if I did have to go through such thing.
"Thank you sososososo much! I love you. You have no idea." I squeaked gratefully, looking up, thanking God for sending Blue to me.
"Yeah whatever, you're welcome. What are friends for, right?" She said and I smiled.
She hung up and I quickly wiped away my tears, even though I'm pretty sure someone had already seen me crying.
"So, how'd that phone call go?" Aaliyah asked me and I was relived to know they didn't witness my little dramatic episode. Or maybe they just didn't mention it. Except they don't seem like the type of people to just keep it quiet so I'm sure they really didn't notice.
"My best friend's coming for me." I said and she smiled.
"Lucky brat. I'll be lucky if any of my friends even answer my phone. They're all probably drunk, stoned or passed out. I'm dead if my mom has to come." She said and I gave her a heartfelt look.
I guess I was pretty lucky to have good friends. I know Blake and I had just met but I felt like I'd known him for a long time. We immediately clicked. And Blue had been my best friend since 7th grade. Aiden however, he was different. At this point, I honestly had no idea how to feel about him. We fight, but it's never serious. And when we're not fighting, we get along pretty well, I have to admit. I think he's that friend that always causes trouble but you can't ever really hate them for it because you know their intentions aren't really bad, and at the end of the day they're a pretty chill person. Of course, I'd never admit this out loud. No matter what happens, there's no arguing against the fact that in every possible way, Aiden is a huge distraction. Even as my partner, I still need to stay focused on winning that competition.
Blue acts like I'm secretly in love with Aiden but really, I'm not at all. I mean, yes, he's really freaking attractive, but really I'm not one to just develop a crush on someone so fast. It takes time and I would never pick to fall for a guy like Aiden. He's too much for me to handle.
"Dang, I'm sorry to hear that. That sucks." Was all I said, feeling useless.
"So that friend of yours, she a rebel?"
"Oh no, it's a he." I clarified. She smirked, quickly exchanging a look with Reese.
"Ooh, a bad boy. He cute?" She asked with the same smirk on her face. I let out a short laugh and shook my head.
"Uhm, he is not a bad boy. He's just an idiot." I started and they both laughed. "And second of all, he's pretty cute I guess." I admitted, lightly shrugging.
"You like him?" She asked, raising an eyebrow, and I frowned.
"What? No. Never." I said in a grossed out manner and both girls, once again, laughed.
"Okay, she's lying." Reese said as a matter of factly and Aliyah laughed.
"Agreed." She said and I rolled my eyes.
"Am not. He's not my type." I said and then frowned a bit—mostly at myself, because I realized I didn't actually know what 'my type' was.
"Yeah right. Well, I gotta go make my phone call so I'll see ya." Aliyah said, standing up and making her way to the telephone. When she came back she looked pretty calm and then told us her friend would pick her up as well.
About twenty minutes passed and we all made small talk. Mostly about our age and where we were from. You know, basic stuff.
I was surprised to find out I was the oldest out of all of us. Reese was seventeen and Aaliyah was eighteen. Although I was one year older, they seemed to be a lot older than I was. Maybe it was just their personalities that made them seem older.
Finally, the police lady came back again and looked at all of us.
"You make your call already?" I asked Reese and she nodded. This meant one of us would be going home.
"Ms. June Love, we got someone here to get you." The police lady said and I smiled.
"It had to be you, huh?" Aaliyah said and I winked.
"Lucky me."
Suddenly, I realized there was a very slim chance of me ever seeing Aliyah and Reese. I know they were both horrible influences but I liked them. I kind of wished they'd get bailed out right now so we could see each other again. They seemed fun to hang out with. Well, that is, when they weren't involved in illegal activities.
"I know this is really random but, do you have instagram?" I whispered to Reese and she laughed.
"You're so weird. But yes, I do." She said and quickly told me and I told her mine.
I smiled and I know she understood why I wanted it. I told Aliyah as well and then exited the cell.
The police lady seemed extremely annoyed at the fact I took my time to leave the cell but I couldn't care less.
I was free.
She guided me into a room I hadn't seen before and there I found Blue, Aiden and a tall, tan, green eyed, and black haired girl who looked about 22 or 23 years old.
Blue immediately ran over to me and hugged me as tight as possible.
"I swear, you better not end up in jail again. " She mumbled and I laughed.
"I told you I'll pay you back. I promise." I said and she smiled.
"No, I got that covered. Aiden payed me back. He said it was his fault so the least he could do is pay for this himself." She explained and I nodded, letting a smile make its way onto my face.
I looked back at Aiden and found he was already looking at me. When our eyes met, for some strange reason, we both laughed.
He walked over to me and the girl that was with him did too. She was slightly shorter than he was, but still taller than me.
"Hey, cupcake. Sorry about all this." He apologized. "But hey, I did promise you we'd be fine." He added, not forgetting to smirk.
"Yeah, except now I've got a criminal record." I reminded him and he chuckled.
"That makes two of us. Looks like you're my bad luck charm." He teased and I laughed, lightly punching him.
"Likewise." I said, rolling my eyes playfully.
"Oh yeah, by the way, this is my sister, Bella." He began. "And Bella, this is June."
I smiled at her and that's when I noticed how pretty she actually was. I was jealous at how both of them were so attractive. Parents definitely did a good job.
"Nice to meet ya." She said cooly, smiling back and then giving Aiden a weird look.
I'm not sure exactly what kind of look it was but he just rolled his eyes.
"Same to you." I replied, smiling at her.
"I'm sorry my brother dragged you into this mess. He's always like that. I apologize for you having to deal with it." She said and Aiden laughed sarcastically.
"Lies! I never even get caught." He argued and we laughed.
"You're so easy to mess with." Bella said and swung her arm around his shoulder. "Ah, I missed ya lil bro." She ruffled his hair and he swiped her hand away, fixing it back to its less messy state.
"Of course you did, who wouldn't?" He teased and she raised an eyebrow.
"Don't push it kid, I could easily un-bail you." She smirked and he faked a horrified expression.
She just shook her head while chuckling lightly and then looked at Blue.
"And you must be...."
"Oh yeah, I'm Blue." She said and Bella nodded.
"Cool name. I'm guessing you already know who I am by now." She said, not bothering to re-introduce herself.
Blue laughed a little. "Yeah, I'm aware."
"So how about we go celebrate? We can go get some milkshakes, they're on me." Aiden announced and all three of us smiled widely.
"Milkshakes sound great, actually." I admitted and he smiled.
"Alright, a milkshake for the cupcake." He said, trying to be funny, and I just gave him a look.
"Just stop." I said, beginning to laugh at his not so funny 'joke'.
"Always pooping on the party man." He said and I shrugged playfully.
"Well, gotta go to the bathroom at SOME point, right?" I said and he just face palmed.
"Your jokes are worse than mine." He said.
"I wasn't trying to be funny." I deadpanned and he chuckled while shaking his head. This is why I'm an artist and not a comedian.
"Aaaalllriiighttt, let's go get them milkshakes. I hate this place, it's gross." Blue said and we made our way out.
As we all walked out, we decided to meet at Shake Shack. We couldn't go with Aiden and Bella because, apparently, Bella's car was full with tons of boxes in the back of her car. Don't ask me what was in them, but there was just not enough room for Blue and I.
The good thing is although the place was always packed, it was already late so, surprisingly, it wasn't that long of a line.
Thankfully, Blue and I don't own a car so we didn't have to look for a place to park. Having a car in New York is pretty useless considering most of the time you just walk or get on a taxi.
When we were all there, Bella said she wanted to pass by to a store quickly before we ate or they would close. Perks of the city that never sleeps: you can find an open store at 2am.
Blue and I were okay with it, especially since it was one of Blue's favorite stores. Aiden, however, groaned and began to whine about how we'd take forever.
Men...
"But I'm starving." He exaggerated and we all rolled our eyes.
"You'll live." Bella said and we started walking over to the store.
"Why can't June and I stay here waiting in line while you guys go?" He begged and Bella smirked.
"Because I say so."
"You're so annoying." He spat, a scowl on his face, and she just looked at him amusedly.
It was funny seeing Aiden like this. Usually, he seemed to always be superior or in control. He always knew how to handle people and seemed to always know exactly what to say—never failing to come up with some witty remark. He was even slightly intimidating sometimes with his cool and confident personality, so it was definitely interesting seeing him get treated like a child and acting like one too. Looks like his older sister is the one in charge.
"Thanks." She said and he narrowed his eyes at her but didn't say another word.
After walking down a couple of blocks, we finally arrived, and Bella and Blue walked in. Just as I was about to, Aiden pulled me back rather harshly, making me crash into his chest.
"June will stay out here with me." He announced and Blue just gave us a thumbs up, not even bothering to look back.
Thanks a lot Blue.
I frowned and then turned my head to look at him again. He was still holding me and I found his scrutinizing gaze set on me. My heart started beating faster and I found myself having trouble breathing when I noticed our proximity.
"Uh..." I said, not managing to get any words out.
"You know I'm really sorry, right?" He asked, his voice coming out low and raspy.
"Yeah, I know." I whispered back.
I realized this was kinda like Deja Vu. It reminded me of that night we went to the fair and he asked me if I'd forgiven him—Except this time, it was a lot more awkward and uncomfortable considering he was holding me close and I wasn't able to cohere any words properly.
A few seconds passed and we both just stood there in the same position, causing me to frown in confusion. Why were we just standing there like that?
I honestly don't know how I made it so long being held in his arms without turning into butter and melting. Having a hot boy that close to you seriously causes breathing problems and heart palpitations. I don't care if it's Aiden. I can't deny he's got a nice face.
Suddenly, his eyes quickly flickered down at my lips and then stared back into my eyes.
Cliché much?
Sometimes I wonder if he's that kind of guy who gathers experience from love novels and chick flicks, I swear.
Like seriously, what the heck is he doing?
Suddenly, he started to get closer and I found myself paralyzed. My mouth was slightly agape and then closed it, swallowing a gulp of nervousness.
Aiden...you better back up now, you punk.
Is he going to kiss me?
Nah.
Okay, I need to stop fooling myself. I'm not that oblivious.
He started leaning in even closer and then had the nerve to rest his hand on my cheek.
Oh my goodness, he is.
WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?
HE CAN'T KISS ME.
WHY AM I NOT MOVING?!
OH MY GOODNESS JUNE, PLEASE REACT.
But all my senses and brain had decided to shut down.
He was incredibly close and suddenly, just as I his lips were about to brush against mine, my brain finally turned back on. I quickly backed away, pushing him away from me.
"What the actual crap do you think you're doing, Blackwood?" I asked through gritted teeth, gaining my ability to speak again and giving him what is probably the deadliest look I've ever given anyone.
He looked extremely taken back and quite startled at my reaction.
"I don't know- I didn't mean to do that, oh my go-"
"You're such a jerk." I said, narrowing my eyes and shaking my head at him, and he frowned.
"Wait what?"
"You have a girlfriend—or girlfriends. I don't know, but how dare you do that?! I'm not one of your little dollies." I rambled on, furious at what had just happened. I could feel my cheeks heat up and I clenched my fists, in awe as his audacity, yet he just stood there looking clueless.
"I-I don't have girlfriends. What? Where'd you get that fro-"
"Hellooo! We're back. See? We were quick." Bella said, cutting him off.
Not quick enough...
"Yeah." I said and faked a laugh.
Aiden and I quickly shot an awkward look at each other and I knew I would not be able to make it through the rest of the night—not after this.
Both girls seemed to notice there was something weird going on, as they looked at us expectantly.
"Is it just me or does it feel like we're all in the middle of an ocean of awkward?" Bella asked, laughing awkwardly herself.
"You know, it's just I suddenly started feeling really bad. My head hurts and I think I'm just exhausted. Do you mind if we just head back home? I'm sorry." I lied.
Well, technically, it wasn't a complete lie because I actually was pretty tired.
It was currently 2:17am and I was grateful for that because otherwise I don't know what my excuse would've been.
"Oh, it's fine. I understand. I'd be pretty exhausted too after getting arrested and getting back from jail. It was nice meeting you two!" She said, and I smiled gratefully at her. I was slightly upset that she was Aiden's sister because I'd really like to hang out with her more often. She was really nice.
However, being friends with her would mean I'd probably see Aiden more often, even after the art course was over. I'm not sure I'd want to deal with that.
"Yeah, you too!" Blue and I said and then she gave us both a quick hug.
"Bye." I told Aiden, my tone blunt and cold. He just nodded back, and then I started walking away quickly.
I could tell I left an awkward atmosphere behind me but l didn't care. It was his fault anyways. I'd had enough of him for the day.
I called for a taxi and Blue caught up to me.
As we hopped inside the cab, I heard her speak.
"You better tell me what happened." She demanded and I let out an incredulous laugh.
I'd tell you but I'm not exactly sure if I, myself, even know what happened.
I hate you Aiden Blackwood.
