If we were older.
If we were older,
What would we do?
Would have any reason to appeal?
Or even listen to you?
If we were older,
Oh, all the things we'd say.
Turn on our heels,
And laugh the pain away.
If we were older,
No longer home,
Would we stay.
Afraid of the day,
Where our hair would turn grey.
If we were older,
All the love we could share,
Beneath the stares,
or beside the coals of a fire.
Watching the resting blue jays conspire.
If we were older,
So many things we wouldnt be afraid to oppose.
No more opinions needed to be kept behind doors that are closed.
If we were older.
If we were older,
We couldn't be stopped,
Or used,
Or table topped.
If we were older we wouldn't be hurt, or hit, or draped in the fear of rape.
If we were older we could form our own society that has a priority that wont allow the majority to believe the fault all lands on me.
If we were older,
We would still play the games we play,
And still pay the bills we pay,
We might even still allow our emotions to be at bay.
But we will be older,
And we will be different,
And that's okay.
Because we will be wiser,
And kinder,
And more accepting all the same.
I wait for that day.
When we are older.
It will be very dissimilar from today,
But honestly,
That's okay.
If we were older,
We would find the right way.
