17-- Libraries
Casey sorted out some books on the cart and slid them into the empty slots in the book shelves. One of the covers caught her attention: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. She resisted an overwhelming urge of the Fangirl-Itis and put the book away, amongst a series of others in the fiction section.
Her mother had been right in forcing Casey to find a part time job in the library.
Mere weeks ago, Casey had detested the idea of working in such a place but now...well, she was already obsessed- not just to the library but to a whole collection of books.
She propped the last of the books into their righteous shelves and rolled the cart back to the front desk, leaving it there, away from everyone else's way.
She was just about to get another stack of books when a little girl walked up to the front desk.
She had to stand on her tippy toes to look over the polished, black wooden table and even then, only her eyes could be seen- wide grey eyes illuminated by long lashes. Her blonde hair curled off a little way past her shoulders in thick locks, just like a princess's. She couldn't have been more than five but in her arms was a big book- one that even Casey wouldn't have dared to read.
"Hello." Casey said politely with a smile, moving behind the counter.
"Hi." The girl chirped. "Could I please return this book?" She slid a large grey book over the surface of the counter. The words Architecture Through The Ages by Bathilda Bagshot was printed in curled writing at the front. (Yes guys, Bathilda Bagshot is writting muggle books now :))
"Sure. Would you like to burrow anything?" Casey took the book and scanned it before putting it into the cart.
"I don't know." The girl said, looking around. "I think I've read all the architecture books I could find."
"You can try something different if you'd like." Casey told her.
The little girl scrunched up her nose. "I don't like other books."
"You might after you've read them." She walked out from behind the counter and held out a hand for the smaller girl to take. "I'll show you a good one if you want."
The girl nodded her head furiously with a wide smile.
Casey led her gently towards one of the towering bookshelves and pulled out a book.
She gave it to the blonde little angel who took it into her hands with a look of glee. "The- The- Phisolophers Tone?"
"The Philosophers Stone." Casey corrected with a small laugh. "It's about wizards and witches."
The girl beamed at her, eyes awake with fascination. "Could I burrow this please?"
"Of course." Casey said. "Do you have a library card?"
The girl nodded and gave Casey a card. "It's my daddy's. But he never come here anymore."
Casey frowned. "Who are you with then?"
"My step mom is outside with my little brothers. They're not my brothers actually. They're my step brothers. My family doesn't really care about me."
"Oh." Casey suddenly felt sorry for this little girl but it was empathy rather than sympathy. "You know, I had a little sister once upon a time. But she-" Casey broke off, unable to continue
The little girl watched her for a while but then she gave her a big hug. "It's okay. I'm sure your sister is in a very happy place."
Casey smiled at her. "What's your name?"
"Annabeth!"
"That's a very pretty name, Annabeth. I'm Casey."
Annabeth gave her a big smile, revealing a missing tooth to the side.
"How 'bout we get this book burrowed so you can go home and read it?"
"Okay!" Annabeth agreed.
When everything was set, Casey gave her a big hug and said good bye. Annabeth came back again the next day, ready to burrow the Chamber of Secrets.
In fact, she came to the library nearly every day. The two girls got really close. It was almost like Casey had her sister back.
Then two years later, she just stopped coming.
Casey looked at the sliding glass doors everyday but the blonde angel never came in again.
She only saw her almost five years later when the sliding glass doors opened up again.

Casey was just finishing up scanning some books that had been returned when a voice jolted her back into the real world.
"Excuse me, but do you happen to have a copy of Architecture for the 21st century?"
Casey looked up. Staring back at her was girl who appeared to twelve years old- eleven years younger than herself. Her blonde hair was in a messy pony tail and she wore an orange t-shirt with lettering that Casey couldn't really understand.
Her eyes however, were very familiar. They were sharp and grey like a storm was brewing inside them. It was intimidating but pretty too.
"Oh yeah." Casey looked around in the pile of books she had just scanned and pulled a thick copy out. "Here you go. Do you have your library card."
The girl smiled and handed over a blue card. The name Annabeth Chase was printed on the front.
Casey looked up, finally realising who this girl was.
She scanned the book and gave it to her. Annabeth smiled, said a quick thank you and walked outside where an older man- whom Casey guessed was Annabeth's father- was waiting for her.
Casey was sick the next day and wasn't in the Library when the young blonde girl came in to return her book.
Then, again, she disappeared for another year or two.

The next time she came to the library, Casey was twenty five year old, happily engaged to her boyfriend of five years- James. (A/N I know, I know. I keep using this name but siriusly! I can't think of anything else!)
She had dragged him to the library with her today since he had a break from work, so being the amazing person he was, James was helping Casey out with returning books into their shelves and scanning items.
The glass doors slid open again and someone walked in. Casey recognised her straight away. She nudged James in the ribs. "Hey, that's Annabeth."
"Oh." he laughed lightly. "Of course. She looks like she's in wonderland. And that poor guy must be stuck in the same situation I'm in."
"What guy?" Casey asked looking around. It was only then that she noticed that Annabeth wasn't alone. She had someone with her, a guy of maybe fourteen
His hair was windswept and black. Sea green eyes shone with boredom from underneath. Hands shoved in his pocket and back slouched, he followed Annabeth further into the library.
In a way, this guy reminded Casey of James.
The same trouble making skater look was very clear on his face.
"Ugh, Wise Girl, these books are giving me a headache. Please can we go?" He begged. "I'll buy us ice cream or something!"
"Shut up before I take out my dagger." She said absently, flipping through a book casually, as if taking out a dagger in a public place was a very natural thing to do.
The guy peeked over her shoulder at the book and imediately cringed. "The letters are tiny and where did the pictures go?"
Annabeth shut the book and gave it to the guy, or rather- she shoved it onto him.
He fumbled with the book but managed to keep it from falling.
"Okay. Great, you got a book. Can we go now?"
"Nope." She said, moving to another shelf and looking through it.
"I travel half way across the world to save you from an evil Titan and this is how you repay me? Using me as your shopping basket?" He protested as Annabeth gave him another book.
From beside Casey, James smiled. "They remind me of us when we were fourteen."
Casey kissed his cheek. "Yeah. Now, you shut up and get back to those books."
James laughed and stole another little kiss. "Okay, okay!"
Half an hour later, after lots of arguing and creating chaos in the usually calm library, Annabeth and that guy walked up to the counter, carrying among them three thick, hard copy books.
Annabeth looked up at Casey with a smile. "Hello. Could I burrow these three books please?"
"Sure." Casey said, grinning at her. "Do you have a library card?"
"Yeah, let me just find-" She put a hand in a pocket and took out a card, handing it over to Casey.
It was a paper card with the words:
Hi,
my name is Percy
I am so awesome
(Apollo gave me lessons)
"Uh..." Casey gave it back to her. The guy next to her was trying to stifle his laughter.
Annabeth read the card and turned around, glaring at her friend. "Perseus Jackson, where is my library card?" She asked him in a deadly sort of voice.
'Percy' shrugged. "I dunno, did you check-"
Annabeth pulled out something and held it at his throat. It took a while for Casey to understand what it was but it appeared to be... a ruler?
Casey didn't find anything scary in that but Percy gulped and pulled out a card from his own pocket, timidly giving it up to Annabeth.
"I will kill you when we get back to camp."
"It was a library card!" Percy protested. "I didn't even put a spider on you bed like Connor did!"
Annabeth visibly paled. So did Casey actually. She was deathly afraid of spiders.
Annabeth punched him on the arm.
"Ow! What was that for?"
"For being annoying."
Percy scowled at her, rubbing his sore arm and muttering something about scary Athena girls under his breath.
Annabeth gave the card to Casey.
She quickly processed the books through the machine and slid them over to the younger girl.
Percy took two of the books gingerly. "I'll carry them for you."
"Thanks seaweed brain."
Looked like they were back to being best friends.
"Thank you Casey." Annabeth said before walking outside with Percy.
Casey barely had to time to say good bye or to think: How did she know my name, before they disappeared again, out of sight.
"They will end up married." James stated grimly.
Casey smirked up at him. "Are you secretly a fanboy or something 'cause-"
James kissed her again. "Shut up and get back to those books."

Two more years passed before Casey saw Annabeth again.
This time she looked a lot more different: taller and prettier but her eyes were the same- there was just a little change- those grey irises looked a little, just a little broken.
When she walked into the library, as usual, she went over to the achitecture books, picked one out of the shelves sat down and started to read.
Casey watched her silently. She couldn't help the sadness that washed over her at the scene in front of her.
If that car accident had never happened, he own little sister would be sitting in this library with Casey, reading a book.
She was shaken away from her thoughts when the glass doors slid open again.
A boy of around sixteen walked in. Casey recognized him immediately.
It was that Percy guy.
He was a little taller and definitely better looking. Her eyes scanned the library. He must've found what her was looking for because a smile suddenly lit up his face. He walked silently, creeping up behind Annabeth who was absorbed in a book, oblivious to her surroundings.
Percy hid behind her chair waiting for the right moment. Then he jumped up and shouted, "Boo!"
Lots of people who had been reading quietly shot him angry looks. They looked at Casey as if to say, "Honestly, isn't a library meant to be quiet!? Shut those kids up!"
Annabeth jumped about a foot in the air and turned around furiously.
"Percy!"
She looked as if she would smack that goofy grin off his face using her hard copy book but Percy got there first. He leaned over the and placed a sweet kiss on her lips.
Casey accidentally dropped the book she was holding. She watched the couple in utter amazement, feeling as if her OTP had risen from her favourite book.
They were adorable, not to mention perfect for each other.
James was right. They will end up married. And if by some remote chance they won't, well... Casey will take care of that.
When Percy pulled away, Annabeth looked calmer but the furious expression hadn't all washed away from her face."Hope you know, Seaweed Brain: I'll kill you."
"The number of times you've said that Annabeth... I should've died about a hundred times."
"You die about a hundred times every day without the need of me killing you."
Percy smirked at her. "Can we get out of here now? Please? My dyslexia is giving me a migraine."
"Fine," Annabeth said, with a little laugh at him. "Come on."
Percy gave a long breath of relief.
As they were heading out the door bickering, Annabeth took a glance at Casey and waved.
Casey waved back with a smile, wondering when she'd see her again
