oh life...
Oh Life.
— A poem (elegy) written for The Great Gatsby, as a school assignment to give Gatsby a proper funeral. I quite like it, and I really want to test it before I have to read it out loud to my class lmao
Oh life you have,
Oh life be great.
A man with nothing,
Unsurrendered to fate.
A man in love, with stars in his eyes,
A reason to live? Or a reason to die?
A woman in waiting, with desires strong in her eyes,
A reason to return? Or a reason to strive?
Oh life you have,
Oh life make it great.
A man with desires,
Finding wealth for a dream's sake.
A man with riches, swaddled in glittering lights,
Surrounded by parties, a beacon designed for his heart's want.
A man, who has found through a man he calls "old sport",
The girl of his dreams and the owner of his heart.
Oh life you have,
Oh life keep it safe.
A man with a girl,
Whose husband now knows your face.
A man who surrenders all he has amassed,
To appease his true dream, to have his romance.
A man in a car with a woman by his side, and one dead on the street,
What have you done? Are you still sure this is your dream?
Oh life you had,
Oh life few do miss.
You were a man of fame and desire,
Did it mean anything in your end?
A man killed for a murder he did not commit,
Alone in his death, his dream did not stick.
A man we must mourn, lay him six feet underground,
God bless this man's soul, for none bless it on earth.
Oh life you had,
Oh life we reminisce.
A man who knew the world,
Has left a world that never knew him.
