The Techno Ghost

Chapter 2: The Techno Ghost

Monster High — The Next Day

Morning

Peter Archer was having a surprisingly good morning.

His first official day at Monster High had started with breakfast in the cafeteria—where Draculaura had enthusiastically introduced him to something called "Count Chocula's Cereal of Doom" (which was just regular cereal with unnaturally bright marshmallows). Clawdeen had complimented his jacket. Frankie had asked about his ghost powers. Even Cleo had given him a grudging nod of approval.

Peter: (thinking) This is nice. This is really nice.

He was walking to his first class—"Monster History 101: From Vlad to Van Helsing"—when his ghost sense screamed.

Not a small scream.

A cataclysmic scream.

Peter: (stopping mid-stride) "What the—"

His eyes flared blue-green. His split hair stood on end. Every instinct in his body screamed DANGER.

Draculaura: (noticing) "Peter? What's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost—oh wait, you are one. You look like you've seen a REALLY ANGRY ghost."

Peter: "Something's happening. Something big."

He didn't wait for permission.

The suit exploded onto his body—black and white, glowing lines, spider emblem blazing across his chest. His cloak materialized, trailing ghost energy behind him.

Clawdeen: (eyes wide) "Whoa. That's your hero suit? That's SO COOL."

Peter: "Stay here. I'll be back."

He shot through the ceiling like a missile.

Downtown Transylvania — The Attack

The city was in chaos.

Iron Man suits—dozens of them—were flying through the streets, firing repulsor blasts at buildings, cars, and terrified civilians. But something was wrong.

The suits moved wrong. Jerky. Uncoordinated. Like puppets with tangled strings.

Civilian #1: "STARK! WHY IS TONY STARK ATTACKING US?!"

Civilian #2: "I THOUGHT HE WAS A HERO!"

Peter descended from the sky, cloak blazing, and fired a ghost ray directly at the nearest Iron Man suit.

It exploded—but not into fire.

Into scrap metal.

Peter: (examining the wreckage) "No one inside. These are remote controlled. Or... possessed?"

His ghost sense pulsed again.

He followed it to the source.

The City Square

A figure floated above the chaos.

He was tall—gaunt—with wild gray hair and glowing green eyes. He wore a lab coat that had been torn and singed, and his body flickered with a translucent, ghostly energy. His hands crackled with lightning.

And he was raging.

Nikolai Technus: "STARK! SHOW YOURSELF! YOU COWARD! YOU HYPOCRITE!"

Peter landed between Nikolai and a group of fleeing civilians.

Peter Archer: (voice firm) "Hey. Take it easy. Who are you? What's going on?"

Nikolai's green eyes locked onto Peter.

Nikolai Technus: "Who am I? WHO AM I?! I am Nikolai Technus! The greatest technological mind of my generation! And that—" (he pointed a trembling finger at a building) "—that MAN destroyed everything I was!"

Peter followed his gaze.

Tony Stark stood on a balcony above the square, his face pale, his eyes filled with something Peter had never seen in the billionaire genius:

Guilt.

Tony Stark: (quietly) "Nikolai. It's been a long time."

Nikolai: (screaming) "A LONG TIME?! A LONG TIME?! I HAVE BEEN TRAPPED IN THE GHOST ZONE FOR YEARS BECAUSE OF YOU! BECAUSE OF YOUR ARROGANCE! BECAUSE OF YOUR HYPOCRISY!"

The Flashback — Peter's Perspective

Peter listened as Nikolai's rage poured out like a dam breaking.

Nikolai Technus: "I was your EMPLOYEE, Stark! I believed in you! I believed in your vision of a better world! I worked on energy sources—clean energy, sustainable energy—because you told me that was the future!"

He laughed—a bitter, broken sound.

Nikolai: "But you lied. You were ALWAYS lying. You weren't creating clean energy. You were creating WEAPONS. Energy weapons powerful enough to level cities. And when I found out—when I BEGGED you to stop—"

Tony Stark looked away.

Nikolai: "You turned the weapon on ME. You tested it on your own employee! And it didn't kill me... it made me THIS."

He held up his hands. They flickered between solid and translucent.

Nikolai: "Half-alive. Half-dead. Trapped between worlds. And you just... went on with your life. Playing hero. Pretending to be a good man."

The crowd gasped.

The cameras—every news drone in the area—captured everything.

Reporter: (live) "This is... this is incredible. Tony Stark, the man who claims to have turned over a new leaf, is being accused of... creating weapons and testing them on his own employees?"

Peter's Reaction

Peter Archer stood still.

His ghost sense was quiet now—because Nikolai wasn't attacking civilians anymore. He was attacking the truth.

And the truth was ugly.

Peter Archer: (turning to Tony Stark) "Is that true?"

Tony opened his mouth. Closed it. Opened it again.

Tony Stark: (voice barely above a whisper) "Yes."

The word hung in the air like a guillotine blade.

Peter: "You turned one of your own employees into a ghost. And you just... moved on? Like it never happened?"

Tony: "I... I tried to find him. I tried to reverse it. But I couldn't. And I didn't know what else to do."

Peter: (coldly) "You could have TOLD someone. You could have taken responsibility. But you're Tony Stark, right? You don't have to face consequences."

Nikolai's rage flickered—replaced, for just a moment, by something vulnerable.

Nikolai Technus: "See? Even the half-ghost understands. Even HE knows you're a monster."

The Avengers Arrive

The Quinjet descended from the sky.

Captain America. Thor. Hulk. Black Widow. Hawkeye.

They had heard everything.

Captain America: (stepping forward) "Tony. Is what he said true?"

Tony didn't answer.

Thor: (thunder rumbling in his voice) "ANSWER HIM, STARK."

Tony: "...Yes."

Natasha closed her eyes. Clint looked away. Hulk's face twisted with anger.

Captain America: "You tested weapons on an employee. You turned him into... this. And you never told anyone."

Tony: "I was going to fix it. I was going to—"

Nikolai: (laughing) "FIX IT?! YOU CAN'T FIX DEATH, STARK! YOU CAN'T FIX WHAT YOU DID TO ME!"

Peter stepped between them again.

Peter Archer: (to Nikolai) "Nikolai. Listen to me."

Nikolai: "Why should I listen to YOU?"

Peter: "Because I know what it's like to be turned into something you didn't choose. I know what it's like to have your life ripped away from you. And I know what it's like to feel like no one cares."

Nikolai's eyes flickered.

Peter: "But I also know that anger—pure, consuming anger—will destroy you. It will turn you into the monster everyone else already thinks you are. And I don't think that's who you really are."

Nikolai: (voice cracking) "You don't know me."

Peter: "I know you were a genius. I know you believed in clean energy. I know you begged Tony Stark to stop creating weapons. That doesn't sound like a monster to me. That sounds like a good man who was betrayed."

The Iron Man suits around them began to flicker.

Nikolai's control was slipping.

Peter: "I can help you. I can find a way to stabilize your form. I can help you live again—truly live. Not as a ghost. Not as a victim. As yourself."

Nikolai: (quietly) "You would do that for me? After everything I've done?"

Peter: "Everyone deserves a second chance, Nikolai. Even the ones who've lost their way."

The Resolution

Nikolai Technus lowered his hands.

The Iron Man suits fell to the ground, deactivated, their programming released.

Nikolai Technus: (exhausted) "I... I don't know how to trust anyone anymore."

Peter: "That's okay. Trust is earned. And I'm willing to earn yours."

He extended his hand.

Nikolai stared at it for a long moment.

Then, slowly, he reached out and took it.

Later — The Aftermath

Tony Stark was led away by the authorities.

Not arrested—not yet. But the world had seen everything. The footage was everywhere. Social media was exploding. The Avengers were in damage control mode.

But Peter didn't care about that.

He was sitting with Nikolai Technus in a quiet corner of the city, sharing a cup of coffee (Nikolai couldn't drink it, but he appreciated the gesture).

Nikolai Technus: "You really meant it? About helping me?"

Peter: "I meant every word. I have connections. The Ghostbusters, a girl who can see spirits, even some friends at Monster High. We'll figure something out."

Nikolai: "Why? Why do you care?"

Peter thought about it.

Peter: "Because when I was a kid, no one helped me. I was alone, and the world just... moved on. I promised myself I would never let that happen to anyone else."

Nikolai: (quietly) "You're a good man, Peter Archer."

Peter: "I'm trying to be."

Monster High — Late Night

Peter returned to his dorm room, exhausted.

His phone buzzed.

Miko: (text) "Saw the news. You okay?"

Peter: (text) "Tired. But good. I helped someone."

Miko: (text) "That's what you do."

Peter: (text) "Yeah. I guess it is."

He smiled, put the phone down, and looked out the window at the Transylvanian night.

Tomorrow, classes would resume.

Tomorrow, he'd have to explain to Draculaura why he missed Monster History.

But tonight?

Tonight, he'd helped a ghost find peace.

And that was enough.
