Clockwork

I'm alive!!!!

Chelsea frowned at the ghost. "What? How do you know my name?" Her face cleared in realization. "Are you some kind of all knowing being? Are you going to give me a quest because I am the chosen one?" She spread her hands around in the sky.

The ghost's lips lifted as if he had just heard a joke that never got old. "Yes. In a way."

Chelsea blinked. Not exactly expecting to be right. She squinted. "Who are you?"

He nodded. "My name is Clockwork. I am the Master of Time."

The brown haired girl crossed her arms. "Right. There's a time ghost. What else. The ghost of emotions? The theater ghost? I wouldn't be surprised if Shakespeare appeared and recited Romeo and Juliet." She paced as she waved her arms around.

Clockwork waited until she stopped. "I am here to talk to you and 'send you on a quest' as you said."

Chelsea scowled. "Why me? Why should I trust you at all?"

Clockwork nodded. "I can only say that I am Master of Time and I know you, Chelsea. I have seen you be born and grow up. I've seen your whole life. Even your future."

Chelsea made a face. "You do know this only makes me think you are a crazy toddler stalker after a teenage girl? How do I know you're telling the truth?"

Clockwork cocked his head. "You are only daughter. You've been kicked out of two schools for fighting. You have been in jail three days for attempted robbery.."

Chelsea grinned. "It was a dare." She shook her head. "Alright. I guess I believe you. How do you know all this? How old are you anyway to know that I was kicked out of kindergarten."

Suddenly the time ghost flickered. Next thing she knew a different ghost stood before her. It was a middle aged man with the same cloak, same skin color, and same scar. Chelsea took a step back. "Who the heck are you?!"

The man smiled amused. "I am still Clockwork. I must remind you, I am the Ghost of Time."

Chelsea frowned. "So you switch ages? What happened to the teenage look?"

The blue ghost shook his head. "This is how it is. But we are getting offtrack. You want to know how I know you? I know all of you. I have seen you all be born and grow up. I have seen your parents be born. Your grandparents. I know all. I have been around for millennia of years."

Chelsea scrunched her nose. "You must be really bored if you can't find anything better to do than watch people be born."

Clockwork sighed.

Chelsea grinned at a thought. "Wait. So if you are the time ghost. Do you know the future?"

The ghost nodded. "As I have said. I do."

The girl gasped. "That's so freaking cool. What's gonna happen to me. Do I get a job? Am I in the army? Am I a police officer? Am I a thief? I could honestly do both at this point."

Clockwork shook his head. "I see many futures. It all depends on your choices. Or on the choices others make that affect you directly or indirectly."

Chelsea frowned in confusion. "Sooo I don't get a job? Figures."

Clockwork sighed again. He had known they would have this conversation. Sure it might have gone slightly different but he knew it would be tiring. "Chelsea. I have stopped time to talk to you privately."

The girl pursed her lips and frowned. "What is it?"

"Many things are going to happen soon. I usually am not allowed to interfere but..." The ghost smirked. The first time Chelsea had seen that childish glint in his expression. "I need to tell you something. Do you remember the steed you found by Pariah Dark's castle?"

Chelsea blinked. "Which castle? I've been to two, which is pretty awesome now that I think about it."

Clockwork continued quickly. "The 'dark creepy castle' you and your friends sneaked out to. Where you were send to your nightmare."

The girl shuddered. "Umm yeah. And they're not my friends. At least I don't think they are. Richard is pretty cool but I don't know him that well. Dash and Kwan...mahhhh. They're ok."

"Do you remember the steed?"

Chelsea looked up. "Oh you mean the horse with wings and horn. Pegasus? I still can't remember what that's called."

Clockwork didn't feel like saying the word. "Alicorn."

She snapped her fingers and pointed at him. "Thaaaat's it. Yeah I do. Found him laying on the ground, unmoving. He was freezing. Don't really know what happened to him. We took him to the other castle and the dragon girl said she would take care of him." She brightened. "Wait. You know what happened, right?"

Clockwork nodded. "I need you to get him."

Chelsea blinked. "You want me to...get the alicorn?"

He nodded again and she grinned. "Sure! Do I get to keep him? I wonder what I should name him."

As Chelsea was deep in thought, Clockwork raised a hand to the eye of his staff. He pressed. "Time in."

Everything continued like normal. The adolescents continued walking as if nothing had happened.

Danny paused as his breath fogged and he turned to look at the ghost.

He wasn't the only one to notice him. Melissa blinked as she almost rammed into the ghost that seemingly appeared out of thin air. She gasped and jumped back, letting out a startled scream.

That was all needed to get the attention of the rest of the group. They looked around for the new threat. A few with bored expressions, probably thinking 'now what'.

There were mutters and gasps as more people got a look at the new ghost.

"Who is that?"

"Is he evil?"

"He's looking at me weird."

Tucker frowned. "Clockwork? What are you doing here?"

Maddie looked at the boy from the top of the gun she was pointing at the sudden threat. "You know him? Is he friendly?" She had learned that her son and his friends seemed to know a lot of these ghost personally.

Danny nodded. "He's ok. But the fact that he's here is bad news."

Maddie frowned in confusion but lowered the weapon. She patted Jack who followed suit. He sighed as if he never got a chance to shoot a ghost.

Sam took a step forward. "Alright what did you and Chelsea talk about."

Danny frowned. "How do you-" he paused when he saw the necklace hanging around the girl's neck.

She looked down as if noticing for the first time. She took it off. "Yeah. What is this, actually."

Clockwork took it back and stuffed it inside his cloak. "Its is the only thing that kept you from being frozen in time like the others."

Dash's eyes widened. "Frozen in time?! What does that mean?"

Melissa blinked. "It means that they can move while the clock isn't ticking."

Dash frowned. "So? I was moving while the watch wasn't. Sure it was broken but.."

Melissa sighed. "No wonder you dropped a class."

Richard gaped like a fish out of the water. "You can make time stop? That. Is. So cool. Imagine all the pranks you could do while everyone was just there." He imitated a frozen person. "Standing still."

Maddie stepped closer to the ghost but jumped in surprise when the being flickered and in it's place stood a slumped old man. His beard rained over the clock where his chest should be. She blinked. "Are all ghosts able to change their appearance this quick?"

Clockwork shook his head. "Only some. The rest is how you have researched it. They change when they have an increase in power or in stressful times."

Jack frowned. "How do you know our research."

Clockwork smiled. "I would like to introduce myself first. I am Clockwork, Master of Time. And I know all."

Andrew leaned forward in expectation. "Do you know what we are thinking?"

Richard gasped and clenched his eyes shut. "What color am I thinking of right now."

The ghost shook his head. "I can only see your deeds in the past, the present and the future. Or at least the different paths and timelines of it."

Richard frowned. "Umm no? I was thinking of blue."

Maddie and Jack were fascinated by this. "You can see the future? Do you know what will happen to the world?"

Danny shook his hands around as he tried to get the ghost's attention. There wasn't any need for it as Clockwork was already waiting for his question.

"Wait wait. Clockwork, what are you doing here. I'm guessing it isn't good?"

Clockwork surprisingly smiled. "It's is not as bad as you think, Daniel. I have only come to tell Chelsea something. This is the best course to go. But I must warn you. Do not ignore your instincts, young Daniel. There is yet more to come."

The ghost of time turned back to Chelsea. "You know what to do. Hurry and come back as quick as you can." He flickered and Chelsea was met with the familiar sight of the toddler. "You will know what to do then."

He pressed his staff and a giant clock appeared next to him. The big hand moved in a circle and opened a portal in its wake. "I must leave now. Take care. And Kwan? It would be for the best if you didn't leave the country. Dani? Yes, I do." And he disappeared in the hole.

Richard tried to follow but it closed and blinked out. He pouted. "Aww. I didn't get any confusing and useless advice from the fortune cookie."

Danny laughed at the name while Damian rolled his eyes. "His advice isn't useless. Although it is confusing. He's always vague."

David snorted. "It's like he enjoys it."

Dani cupped her mouth and shouted at seemingly nothing. "Do you enjoy it?!" She blinked. "Oh wait."

Valerie laughed. "Sneaky."

Maddie turned to Chelsea. "What did the ghost tell you?"

The rest of the group turned to her in interest.

The girl grinned with anticipation. "I have to leave. Get my pet."

David frowned. "Your pet?"

Dash groaned. "Why does everyone keep getting pets except me."

Kwan frowned. "And me."

"And you."

"But you got your dog."

"True but Pooky's alive."

Kwan made a face. "Isn't that a good thing?"

Andrew raised an eyebrow at Chelsea. "What pet?"

She looked pretty smug. "Blackjack."

Danny frowned. "Who?"

"The pegasus with the horn that we found in the dark, creepy castle."

Danny blinked. "Oh. You mean Nightmare. Why do you have to get him?"

Melissa gaped. "You named the horse Blackjack?!"

Chelsea shrugged. "I read sometimes, you know. And when I do, it's the good books."

Melissa shook her head in disbelief. "Whoa. And for the record: Blackjack was a pegasus. And I'm pretty sure the horse back there is an alicorn."

The other waved her hand. "Details."

Richard frowned. "What are you talking about?"

Chelsea shook her head. "Nevermind. Thing is, I gotta pick him up because something is coming. I gotta hurry too, so can anyone give me a ride? I don't know the way."

"Wait wait wait." Nathan shook his head. "What's coming. Why would you have to go back and get that horse for it?"

She shrugged. "Don't know. Come on guys. The sooner I leave, the sooner I can get my pegasus."

Maddie shook her head in exasperation. "Chelsea, I don't think your parents will agree to this."

She turned to the woman in shock. "Please. I'll be safe. They don't need to know. Neither about Blackjack. This is important. Time guy said so. Just let me go."

Danny shuffled close to his mother. "I'm pretty sure she's going to sneak out on her own, unarmed and alone, if we don't send her prepared," he muttered.

His mom considered it. "What do you think, Jack."

The man frowned, seemingly in thought. "I'd say I could have named the horse better."

"Jack!!" Maddie snapped.

He grinned. "Let her take one of Danny's pets. Maybe send someone with her. A ghost that can see the future must know something." He shrugged.

Maddie nodded. "You're right. Danny, which ghost should we send her with."

Danny blinked at her. Then he smiled. "How about we send Leroy. He probably knows the way back, since he's been there. Besides, me and Cujo have some catching up to do. I don't know who to send her with though."

Melissa raised a hand, almost immediately. "I'll go with her."

Sam frowned in confusion. "Why? You don't have much experience with ghosts or weapons to go out alone."

Melissa crossed her arms
"As about now, I have more experience than anyone in Amity park."

Sam rolled her eyes. "Sure but enough to go in the Ghost Zone alone?"

Jack nodded. "It will be dangerous."

Melissa scowled. She didn't know why she wanted to go all of a sudden. All she knew was that she wanted to leave. Be alone for some time. Well she had Chelsea, but she didn't mind her. Despite their obvious differences she had grown fond of the girl. Sam however...that was it. She wanted to be away of the new couple for a few days. To get over it. She still had feelings for Danny. She hoped they would go away and stop torturing her if she was separated from him long enough. "Danny's dog can protect us. And we'll take a few weapons. How far is it anyways?"

Danny muttered about how it was not a dog and Tucker answered her. "From here? To Dora's castle? Abouuut three hours with the Space Craft. That'd be four with Leroy on non-stop maximum speed."

Melissa frowned. "So if we want to rest, it would take us four and a half there. When we get back we'll have the horse with us so I guess it will be faster because of weight distribution so that will be four hours. We'll be back in nine hours or so."

Richard pouted. He would miss his partner in crime Chelsea.

Valerie pointed. "Don't forget that you need to train the alicorn first. Don't think that will be done in half an hour."

Melissa nodded. "Ten. Better leave now."

That set the group in motion. Danny tried to tell Leroy what was expected of him while Melissa and Chelsea got a few small weapons from Jack. Nobody questioned Melissa for leaving anymore.

Star walked up to Tucker. "How do you know so much of the Ghost Zone?" A few listened closely, wanting to know the answer as well.

Tucker smiled and shrugged. "If your best friend is half ghost, wouldn't you go into the home of the ghosts? We did it so much we almost have it memorized...at least this small part of it."

Star blinked and Andrew turned curiously. "You mean there's more?"

Tucker waved his hand at the green swirls. "Do you see an end?"

Andrew was fascinated, and for once, Sheldon didn't blame him.

Maddie stood next to Danny as he spoke to his pet. She bit her lip. She was able to hide it so far but her brain was swirling in a tornado of possibilities, theories and facts. Mostly facts with tiny theories trying to fit in. All going back to the one thing.

Her mind went back to when she had first heard of the term: halfa. The vague description she got of the so called halfa.

How Danny seemed to know a lot of ghosts. He and his friends knew the Ghost Zone well. She supposed that didn't mean much but it was a clue.

The picture of the tapestry at Princess Dorathea's castle. The image of the halfa did look like her boy. In a heroic, selfconfident kind of way. At first she had thought it was Phantom. She wished it had had color.

Then was the frost. The ice power Danny seemed to possess. She had been thinking of this one quite awhile.

Danny was also powerful. Past fourteen it looks like. And he said he was growing in power. Just like...

Not only the clues acquired in this field trip, way before all this she had been getting more and more suspicious. Even Jack knew something was off. Ever since the acci- the event with portal.

All these puzzle pieces alone didn't mean anything. But put together, they fit perfectly to show an answer she dreaded and wanted to deny with all her heart.

"Mom!!"

Maddie jumped as she was ripped away from her deep, depressing thoughts.

She looked up to see Danny staring at her with a frown of concern. Danny. Or as he insisted on calling himself. Danny Phantom.

"Mom, are you ok?"

Maddie took a shaky breath when she realized he was waiting for a response. "Yes...Danny. I'm fine."

He fidgeted. "Do you...need help with something? You've been standing there quietly the whole time and it's honestly starting to freak me out." He chuckled.

Maddie couldn't bring herself to smile. "Oh. Sorry...sweety. I wanted to..." What was she here for again?" Oh right. "How are you going to transport yourself and your....clones..." She had just realized something else. He had been experimented on. Vlad had experimented on him.

Sure she already knew that but now it hit her like a truck. She suddenly seethed in anger. How dare he- She stopped when she remembered Danny's broken expression when she talked about testing his powers. She had thought that was relatively harmless but her subconscious brought forward other moments. They went by like a slideshow. All the times she had made a threat, shot at, or even looked at, not only Phantom, but every single ghost with disgust and hatred.

She felt like breaking down and holding on to her son right then and there. The tears started to form in her eyes but she swallowed them back.

Danny ran a hand through his hair and left it there. "Alright now you're really creeping me out. Is something wrong?"

Oh Danny, Maddie thought. Everything is wrong.

She rubbed her face with her hands and shook her head. "No," was all she said.

Danny seemed unsure but continued anyway. "So don't worry about transportation. Cujo and Stephanie should be able to carry us all. I will fly alone and I can carry someone on my back if need be. Leroy knows what to do so we're all set." He smiled.

Maddie couldn't understand the smile. She turned around and left without another word, leaving behind a confused boy.

Soon they were watching Chelsea and Melissa mount Leroy cautiously. They were lightly packed with weapons and food. They waved their goodbyes.

"Hold tight!!" Danny shouted. And they barely had enough time to do that before the ghost under them leapt away.

All they heard was a short scream of surprise and laughing before the three disappeared behind the ghostly green air.

The remaining group split up. The clones and Danny on the other ghosts. The humans in the ship.

Sam decided that 'screw it' and gave Danny a peck on the cheek. She quickly entered the ship as Jack turned it on.

The boy's cheeks redened. He could get used to this.

"Hey loverboy!"

He turned to see his cousins waiting. Damian and David on Cujo. Dani on Stephanie, who seemed to not want to let anyone else ride her exept Dani. Dorian floated up next to him.

Dani motioned for him to hurry up. "Let's go!"

Danny smirked and pushed off the ground. He flew up next to them. That none of his cousins should be allowed to fly, was a given. "Did Tuck teach you to call me that, squirt?"

Dani shook her head, an identical smirk on her face. "Came up with it aaall on my own, nerd."

"Can we just go?" David complained.

Danny laughed and nodded. He bowed. "Lead us to your misterious friend, princess."

"With pleasure." She asked Stephanie to go and they took off.

Steph and Dani at front. Her cousins behind her. And slightly far back, so as not to disturb them, the ship.
