Chapter Two: Explaining
Percy was fairly surprised when they stepped away from him. Everyone except Jace and Alec, who whipped out their weapons and went into a battle stance. Percy laughed and held his hands up saying, "Guys calm down! I'm messing with you. If you sit down, I'll tell you a story."
"Oh so it's story time now?" Jace said sarcastically.
Percy shook his head. "No. If you want to know who I am, you'll want to sit down because it's a long story."
Percy hadn't completely decided to tell them the whole story. It depended on whether they would believe him or not. Even though it wouldn't matter either way; Nico and the others would be looking for him and besides if he had to fight his way out of here, he would.
Percy studied the group of teens in the room and tried to gauge if they'd listen to him at all. Clary and Simon seemed interested, Jace seemed impatient, Isabelle seemed to be distracted by either staring at his face or staring at his nails and Alec was just standing there with his arms crossed.
"No one's gonna sit down?" Percy questioned.
"Just tell us the damn story." Jace growled, scowling and crossing his arms.
"Alright yeesh! No need to get hostile." Percy told him.
Percy thought of how to tell them who he really was. He'd spare them his sob story, growing up without his dad blah blah blah.
"Five years ago I was a normal teenager, or at least that's what I was lead to believe. My mom and I moved around a lot and for a while I didn't understand why. I found out that there were two main reasons: I always ended up accidentally blowing something up at my school or my life was in danger." Percy started. Jace and Alec became more interested as he went on.
"Five years ago everything changed. Everything I thought I knew was real...was the complete opposite. It was fake or it wasn't real. I was on a school field trip when I was attacked by my first monster; it was a Fury. My teacher had given me a pen and told me to use it. I did and she disipitated into a golden dust. From then on my life only got worse."
Isabelle frowned. "How so?"
"I ended up going to this summer camp right ouside of Manhattan and it turned out to be for kids like me. Children who had godly parents that were no-shows. Where we went to learn of our heritage and learn to fight and take care of ourselves. That first night, I fought a Minataur. And won." Percy paused. "But not before it killed my mother. The next day I was claimed by the sea god Poseidon as his son. God you have no idea how big a target was on my back after that. Monsters and other demigods."
Percy twirled his pen in his fingers casually and continued. "And then since then I've been in two wars, one for the Greek gods and the other for the Roman gods. I fought Titans and Furys and Minataurs and and an earth goddess by the name of Gaea and won. I guess you could say that saving the world has become my profession."
"You've saved the world....twice?" Alec asked curiously.
Percy nodded. "More along the lines of three but who's counting?" He hesitated. "But I've never come out of a war unscathed. Unscarred. No one does."
Clary frowns, her green eyes holding something along the lines of knowing exactly what he meant. Everyone did. "What happened?"
Percy turned away from them, trying to stop his eyes from watering. "My mom and my....my best friend. Grover, Annabeth and I were on the Argus ship and we were being attacked. Grover had been hit and had fallen over the edge at the same time Annabeth had and I had already leaped towards the railing, grabbing Grover's hand."
Percy shook his head tears brimming in his eyes and making his vision blurry. "He told me I only had time to save one of them and that it should be Annabeth. He let go of my hand and....let's just say I saved Annabeth."
"That couldn't have been your fault, Percy." Simon said. "I don't know you well but trust me, there was nothing you could have done to change the outcome of that."
"I used to belive that too but eventually I gave up." Percy told them.
