Chapter 9

Tables were flipped to the side as everyone was rushing to stand up, and food was flung to the side of the walls, slowly leaving dripping stains as it fell to the floor. Purple wings were outstretched as people took off into the air ready for the fight. Most students flew off towards their rooms where their weapons were, the professors already having their weapons on them. Xelqua and Zyrex had their weapons on them since they had planned to do some extra training after lunch. They flanked behind their professors in the delta formation they learnt in the strategy classes. There were small cracks forming in the barrier and the noise of the cracks echoed around the still-standing barrier walls. A loud smash came from the cracking area sending a shockwave that broke the rest of the barrier. All students who had sufficient training now had the blades within their hands, all facing the incoming forces. They came from the sky with a flurry of purple wings. Watchers were attacking. Xelqua raised his sword at the ready as the attacks were coming in.

One of the opposing forces' blades hit him and he was locked into a battle. The attacker had deep purple eyes but they weren't filled with anger or rage but determination. He could tell by the way the watcher moved her sword that she wasn't aiming to kill. He managed to get the sword away from the watcher and her eyes which were filled with determination now were scared. Scared of him. He had his sword ready to bring it down like how he had been trained. He couldn't do it. He stayed with his sword in that position until blood splashed on him. As a sword got pulled out of the watcher's body in front of him and slowly glided to the ground he saw Mirinn's face in front of him. He spat some blood out of his mouth and his eyes looked hungry for death, "You've always been weak," He said, hitting him as he flew past to kill another one of the invaders.

There were some people in the academy aiming to kill but none of the invaders was. The small moment he had made him look to the ground. There were people there, red masses were fighting those on the ground. Admins, they were admins. These people were there to help those who were trapped here not to kill. A deflected shot then pushed him against one of the buildings. A purple-robed person was coming toward him, he was worried one of the professors was coming to punish him for his weakness but it was someone he didn't know. They had a mask on their face, and unlike every other masked watcher, he had seen this one had their mask covering their whole face. "Xelqua, do you wish to join us?" they said.

All he could do was nod, and they nodded back and helped him up. Zyrex flew over to where the two of them were, with his sword raised, ready to help his friend if this person was attacking. Instead, the watcher turned to Zyrex, "Zyrex do you wish to join us?"

Zyrex looked at Xelqua because he didn't know who this was. Xelqua then looked to the ground and Zyrex's eyes followed. He saw the admins coming in, and it only took a moment for him to realise who the invaders were. He turned back to the watcher and said, "Okay let's kick some evil watcher butt!"

Zyrex flew down to help the admins against the watchers that were attacking them while Xelqua took back off into the sky. Many of the invaders had fallen to the ground, coming mainly from the professor's attacks. He could see that the students, minus a few, were not trying to kill but just aiming to injure, he went up to one of the watchers that he recognised from his class. She wasn't fighting anyone so he said "Jade are you okay?"

She turned to him with surprise on her face, I don't think she expected me to say anything to her even if we were in battle. She took a deep breath in and said, "I don't think that we are the good guys,"

"I don't think we are the good guys either Jade," Xelqua said, "That's why I'm not going to fight for the professors but instead for the admins and watchers who aren't here to kill us,"

Jade smiled at him, "I'll pass the message along and see if any of the others will switch sides,"

She then flew off towards a group of about five of their classmates.

Xelqua flew further into the crowd and he could see more watchers changing sides until it was only some students and all of the professors now fighting the people who came through the barriers. That's when he felt the hairs on his neck stand up, it twisted his fingers so a purple glow and changed into a shield behind him. He heard the noise of a blade slashing across it as he turned around to face his attacker. It was Mirinn. He wound back in for another attack against the shield but Xelqua instead broke the spell and twisted around him instead. "You traitor!" He said raising his sword for another attack, "I always knew you were weak,"

This time metal clanged as Mirinn's sword met his.

They swung over and over again with the occasional spark flying with the strength of the blades against each other. "You never had the drive that was needed to be a warrior," Mirinn said spitting in Xelqua's direction.

"I did just never for the side I felt was wrong," Xelqua grunted back, "You however were more than happy to follow the professors. They feed you all those lies and you believed them,"

"Unlike you and all of our useless classmates I knew that we were seen as the bad guys, but the professors here are right. It's our blood right to rule as watchers. But you choose to side with those who believe we should be equal with those who are stuck on the ground," Mirinn said as they exchanged more rapid blows.
"That because we should be, none of the worlds or servers could survive without both admins and watchers," Xelqua replied.

"So they could just serve the watchers you traitors," Mirinn said.

"Maybe that's what you think being closed-minded, or maybe it's because you believed their lies because you wanted praise. Especially since you were only third best," Xelqua said, which riled Mirinn up more.

Mirinn with a blow full of anger knocked Xelqua's sword out of his hand and down among the bodies below. With Xelqua now swordless and Mirinn now ready to make a killing blow. His reflex caused a surge of magic to come from his fingers and hit him in the left eye. His eye was gone, replaced by a deep cavity. The skin around it started to crack with purple light. It weakened him, "I'll be back and maybe not today but I will kill you traitor!" he said flying off and away.

Zyrex was not too far away and looking up, Xelqua flew up next to him.

Xelqua now turned up to the main battle where all the professors were facing off between five main people. It seemed a third were by the ground against two admins one with light green hair who seemed to be using code to bring walls up as she attacked, it seemed that one of the professors had gotten a hit on her since she had a scar with fresh blood and the other had purple hair, her attacks were slightly weaker than the green-haired one but still pretty powerful. Up in the air two watchers, one with blue hair, who looked like he had fought battles before and one with red hair, who looked like they could be related to the purple-haired admin. They were being attacked by another third of the professors and he seemed to be using a mix of magic and sword skills to fight against the professors. The last third was against the watcher with the mask who asked them to join.

A voice then came into Xelqua and Zyrex's head, 'Pledge yourself to end the bloodshed and it will end,'

"Did you hear that?" Zyrex asked Xelqua.

"Yeah I did, it sounded like the masked watcher," Xelqua said.
"Should we do it?" Zyrex said.

"I think we should, there's something about her that's trustworthy," Xelqua said, "I, Watcher Xelqua Carolus wish to end the bloodshed,"

"I, Watcher Zyrex Void also wish to end the bloodshed,"

A blaze of light then grew in size from all five fighting the professors which sent out a wave of red and purple that turned to dust. The masked watcher then motioned for Zyrex and Xelqua to come down to the ground to meet up with the two admins that were fighting. The seven of them were on the ground in a spot where there wasn't any blood. "Xelqua Carolus and Zyrex Void I offer you places in The Council do you accept,"

Xelqua turned to Zyrex and smiled, "I do," he said.

"I do as well," Zyrex said.

The masked watcher faced both their army and the students. "Thank you to all that have fought this day. To those who may not know who I am. I am known to the people of the Main World as The High Leader and I lead the council that helps govern the Main World. We hope that you'll join us in the Main World or some of you may choose to go to a server," she said.
She motioned for the watchers to take the sky, and that they did. The admins just teleported back as they flew. That was Xelqua and Zyrex's first day of their new life, one which they had until the current day. That was the last battle that they had for decades until the war generals came back.
