Chapter 9

With the driver putting the vehicle into drive, Yeonjun settled back with a smile as he turned to look at Soobin.

Almost shyly, he intertwined their hands while looking away, the moon that entered through the window making him glow like never before.

Soobin could feel his heart begin thumping in his throat, falling into love deeper and being stuck there with all the sweetness. Almost like an ant that falls into sugar.

He would've been perfectly fine with just staring at Yeonjun happily but when he noticed the drive was stretching twenty minutes with no evident plans of stopping and all civilization was dying down, he began to worry just how far Yeonjun was taking them.

"Where're we going?" Soobin asked quietly, leaning close to Yeonjun so the driver wouldn't notice his worry.

"To a place I've wanted to take you for a few months now."

"At this rate, we'll be there until the sun rises," Soobin frowned, squeezing Yeonjun's hand a bit in a form of disappointed pointing.

"Aw! But let's say, if this is fate, danger is okay hypothetically!" Yeonjun argued, using his best puppy eyes that glittered in the moonlight to win Soobin over. "Don't you want to follow me?"

"Oh my god! That means I can't let my guard down for one second!"

Yeonjun smiled smugly, proud that he was going to get what he wanted. It'd be today.

He didn't care. He had to do what he had to do that evening. Soobin had been with him since the first day of their very first official conversation and he'd be damned if he didn't do anything now that they thought of each other in the way they did.

Another ten minutes and they came to a stop by a trail where sure enough, Yeonjun handed the driver a large sum of money before they got out.

Seemed quite obvious that Yeonjun had been hoping all of that would happen.

"Choi Yeonjun!"

"Choi Soobin!"

Soobin lightly whacked the shorter's shoulder, his eyes sparkling brightly as he took in the area.

"You brought me to the sea? Really?! Are you telling me we've always been so close yet so far?!" Soobin asked, not recalling the last time he had been by the large body of water.

"Yup! Now let's go!"

The two dashed down the path that led to the sandy shore, kicking off their shoes as their toes dug down into the soft ground.

A warm feeling like sunlight lingered deep inside Yeonjun as he watched Soobin's happy face contort brightly upon seeing the almost infinitely stretching water and hearing the gently splashing of the water against the land. He had originally imagined the scenery in the setting sun but with the moon full above and Soobin in his fancy clothes, he couldn't have been happier.

The night sky that seemed like a bluish sun with purple stars high above, the sea lavender flowers dancing in the cool wind, the almost seemingly pink sand due to reflection of the white light on the brownish earth, and the rainbow-coloured sea, was a masterpiece. Everything was beautiful right there, right now.

"Soobie? Should we walk along the sea?" Yeonjun asked, holding his hand out to beckon the excited male forth. "Let's hold our hands?"

Without a single question as to why Yeonjun wanted to do so, Soobin complied easily, swinging their hands as they calmly walked in the water. Only their feet getting wet along with the hem of their pants.

"Listen," Yeonjun said, the wind carrying his voice and making him sound strangely at ease although his insides were running in fiery circles. "This really isn't flattery. All my emotions have been growing to welcome you and I need to say it."

Not turning to look at his best friend, Soobin felt his heart tug at the implications of what those words could mean.

Oh hell, what if he panicked hard?

"Soobie, I can feel your panic radiating off of you in suffocating amounts. Calm down," Yeonjun laughed, squeezing the taller's hand in a comforting manner.

"Oops?" Soobin squeaked awkwardly. "Sorry. I just didn't know what to do but anyways, continue."

Yeonjun smiled softly into the darkness, the warmth of Soobin's larger hand resting comfortably in his reminded him that they were alive and well, the only thing separating them from being together was the invisible barrier that their mind created.

"Well, I really have no way to say this so I'll say this simply and pointedly. No brain games," Yeonjun stated, stopping them and releasing their hands to stand in front of Soobin and this time, grabbing both hands within his. "Will you, Choi Soobin, be my lawfully wedded boyfriend? I've liked you for so long I can't take this anymore. Please?"

Soobin blinked. Once then twice before laughing loudly and hugging his almost boyfriend tightly.

"Lawfully wedded boyfriend?! Aren't you adorable?!"

"Hey! You didn't answer!"

"Of course, it's a yes!" Soobin yelled, spinning them around. "Yes! Yes! YES!"

The night seemed to get brighter, the wind gentler but still a bit chilling, their hair ruffling in the salty wind as if patting them congratulations, and their bodies warm against each other as they stood in the shallow water hugging tightly.

Sudden worry seemed to flash across Soobin's face and he frowned momentarily in the happy moment, Yeonjun noticing instantly.

"Why're you suddenly sad?" Yeonjun asked softly, pressing his nose on Soobin's jaw comfortingly.

"Junnie, do you ever feel like I don't do enough for you?" Soobin asked softly, genuine worry in his voice. "You always do so much for me and if I'll be nothing more than a leech, I don't want to burden you. I want you to live happily without always worrying about me."

Yeonjun blinked. Oh, he recognized that feeling all too well.

"Soobie, babe," Yeonjun sighed, his mouth twitching proudly now that he could call Soobin that. "I promise you that I don't feel that way. I understand what you're saying and I know what you feel because I feel that all too much but listen, I've thought a lot and I've come to a conclusion that we can't be the perfect fairytale couple but we can do our best to work together and better each other. That's why there's two of us because one alone can't be perfect without the other to encourage and push. You understand? Besides, if I didn't wanna be with you do you really think I'd be clinging onto your gorgeous self at this hour of the night on an empty beach while confessing my undying love for you?"

"You're right," Soobin huffed quietly. "And don't call me babe so suddenly! I almost didn't even hear the rest properly after you said that!"

Yeonjun snickered to himself, his face inching upwards as he used the moonlight to look at Soobin's expression carefully.

So calm, so beautiful.

"Go ahead," Soobin whispered, lowering his face.

And there, on the quiet beach with sea lavender surrounding them and only the sound of splashing waves, they shared their first kiss. Enchanting, quiet, serene.

Neither could ask for more.
