Chapter One

Gab's PoV

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

Groaning, I shut off my alarm and rolled out of bed. I hate Mondays. Everything bad always seems to happen on Mondays. There was a time I used to look forward to Mondays. Mondays meant school and learning new things. I know, I used to like school. I was weird like that okay, but that was before the last Monday. The last Monday that I had ever been happy. The Monday when my dad died.

Shut up, Gab! You can't change the past, and dwelling on it is just going to make you hurt more. It's over now. Forget it and move on!

I took a shaky breath and pushed that day out of my thoughts. It doesn't matter now. Mondays were only for the first day back to school which also meant the first day back to torture. Luckily, I live alone. If I didn't have the weekends alone, I probably wouldn't be here today. It still puzzeled me on how I always got a check for a couple of hundred dollars in the mail every month, but I learned not to question it. It's better to focus on other things like actually using the money to help me survive rather than question where it came from. Don't get me wrong, I've tried everything I could think of to track down the sender to give them my thanks, but it was to no avail. I could only pray that the money kept coming, and one day I might be able to meet the person who is keeping me alive. Not that I actually believed there was a higher power to pray to after all that has happened to me, but on the off chance that there was, I really hoped that my message got through. One day, I will thank whoever thought my life was at least worth barely living which was what I was doing right now. I just wished I believed the same.

One might ask if I hated the way my life was right now, and I was basically tortured at school, why would I still be going to a place that will only cause me more pain? Well, I wouldn't want to be taken to truancy court because I have been lying to the government for years. If they found out I lived alone, I would be sent to a foster home, and I know that would be worse than anything I was dealing with right now. That's the reason why I make myself get out of bed each morning to face the demons in my school. It isn't for some small hope for a brighter future that I have given up on its existence, but the fact that this was my least painful option. I didn't think my dad would approve if my life ended at 16.

You're thinking about him again. Just get ready and stop with the self pity.

I sighed inwardly at myself and started to evaluate how I was feeling today. Well, gender wise, not actual feelings wise. I found that thinking about my feelings only makes me more depressed than I already am. Anyway, the reason why I evaluate what gender I'm feeling is because I'm genderfluid. I usually feel better through out the day if I'm not feeling a strong sense of disphoria half way through the day, so I take a few minutes every morning to decide how I want to present myself. Today apparently was going to be a boy day. I grabbed a T-shirt, jeans, and my binding and jumped in the shower.

Once I was done cleaning up, I made a sandwich and packed my bag with a small lunch. Maybe today I'll actually get to eat it. I looked up at the time and yelped. It was 6:55. I had less than five minutes to make it to the bus stop a few streets away. I shoved the rest of my sandwich in my mouth, swung my backpack over my shoulder, and ran out of the door.

Let today be at least an all right day. Please don't let those bastards be at the bus stop.

Unfortunately, yet not unexpected, my prayers were answered with the same cosmic joke that was my life. Oh, you wanted to get away with a day without bruises? Well that's a big fat nope! The universe seemed to be telling me. I made it just in time to see the bus rounding the corner to the stop, and I caught the smirking faces of John, Courtney, and Trevor staring at me with eyes that said, you may have escaped us for now, but as soon as we get off the bus at school, you are ours.

It was only then that I realized I forgot to lock my front door, and I would soon learn how much I would regret my forgetfulness later.

Hey guys, so this chapter was utter crap. I'm sorry you guys had to read that, but I was trying to get a good introduction going. I might publish another chapter tonight, and hopefully that chapter won't sound like a really long rant. Please comment what you thought about it, and I hope you have a great night!
