Chapter 23

Being with Cassian always has and will always be the best time ever. It didn't matter what we were doing. We were having fun.

And I was riding on his bike at the late-night hours where there was barely anyone in the streets. It was just me and the wind. The gust blowing throws my hair, and in the small moment, I forgot about everything.

I forgot, Liam.

I reached my hand out, tilting my head back, and for few seconds, I closed my eyes and let my mind clear up.

It was indeed a peaceful moment, one that I wasn't sure I would be able to have again anytime soon.

"Having fun?" Cassian asked through the breeze.

I nodded my head. "The most fun I had in a while,"

Cassian chuckled.

I felt a droplet of water on to me. "Cas, I think it's about to rain,"

"Shit! I'll take us to the lake house," he said. "It's not far from here,"

-

We arrived at the lake house just before it began pouring.  From the last time I had been here, everything was back to how it was a couple of years ago.

"It's back," I said, looking around with a smile. "Just like I remember it,"

"Ya, my dad wanted it exactly how it was," he said, leaning against the couch.

I looked at him. "How is your dad?" I asked a little awkwardly.

I wasn't sure if Cassian would tell me anything about him either. After finding out that Emilio was Cassian's father, I wasn't sure how I should feel about it.

"He's good. Um..." he scratched the back of his neck. "He's always working," he said.

I nodded my head. I didn't ask more cause I knew he didn't want to talk about it.

"Listen, Storm," he said, pushing himself off the couch and standing in front of me. "Are you okay with everything?" He asked.

I wasn't really sure what he meant by that question.

"What do you mean?" I asked him.

"I mean, I know you're not okay with us fighting, but... are you okay?" he asked m once again.

"I'm fine, Cas. Yes, I hate that you're doing this, but who am I to stop you," I said, walking around him and taking a seat on the couch. "Besides, I know how much you and Ty enjoy kicking ass," I grinned.

Cassian snickered and took a seat beside me. "You got that right," he said, leaning further into the couch. "So are you gonna tell me what's happening with you and Stone?" he asked. I didn't expect him to ask such a question. "You can't lie to me this time. I know for a fact something on is going between you guys," he stated.

"I really don't know what to tell you. He is always going to be the boy that hates me," I sighed.

He gazed at me, confused but curious.

I knew a part of me knew that Liam and I would have never worked out. It hurts to admit because I cared about him. I care about him more than I should.

"But you like him?" Cassian stated.

"Is it wrong for me to say I do?" I asked

"Why would it ever be wrong?"

"Because it feels wrong,"

Cassian took hold of my hands in his own I looked up at him. "It's not wrong, Sunshine. None of this is wrong. You know what they say you can't help who you fall for," he said.

"When did you ever become sappy, Cas?" I teased. He let my hand go and rolled his eyes. "I guess ever since I met you," he mumbled. I wanted to ask him what he meant by that, but before I could, he got up off the couch.

"I'm going to go take a shower now, and I'll order us some food. So you're welcome to stay here as long as you want," he said. I nodded my head, and he left for the shower.

I laid back further into the couch and turned on the tv, and relaxed a bit.

I checked my phone and saw a text from Nathan asking me where I had gone?

I'm fine, Nate. I went home. I texted him before returning my gaze to the tv.

The pizza arrived shortly after, and I left it on the table, waiting for Cassian to get out before eating.

"Hey! Did the food come?"

I opened my mouth to answer but stopped midway when I saw him with nothing but a towel around his waist. His hair was still wet from the shower.

As much as I tried to resist, my eyes travelled down to his abs and the tattoos covering his lower right abdomen.

"Are you done staring?" I almost choked on air when looking back up at him. He crossed his arm while grinning at me.

My face went hot, and I could already feel the colour rushing to my cheeks.

"Um, I...," I shuttered. "Ya, the food came," I said, clearing my throat.

He smirked at me know last time before disappearing into the room to change.

I placed my face in the palms of my hand and cursed at myself for being so embarrassing.

Cassian and I had been friends so long that he's practically my brother and it just caught my surprise to see him that way.

He came out of the room fully dressed and took his seat next to me. I moved a little further, wanting to put some distance between us after what had just happened.

He opened the pizza box, took a slice out, and devoured in less than 5 seconds before going in for another.

"Are you gonna eat, or am I going to finish this?" He joked. And handed me a slice.

I smiled at him and took it from him, and began eating.

For a while, we just ate and watched tv in silence until it was time for me to go home.

"I think I should get home now. I haven't even told my parents where I would be," I said.

"No, no, it's way too late out. Let's just spend the night here, and I'll take you home in the morning," he said. "I'll talk to your mom if you want. You know how much she loves me," he smirked. "Besides, it's still raining,"

I wanted to go home, but I knew it was probably the safe choice to stay here.

I had texted my mom, who agreed with it being here since the rain would worsen overnight.

"Here, I got you a change of clothes," Cassian handed me a pair of his sweats and a shirt. I thanked him and went into the bathroom and took a quick shower, and changed into his clothes.

The clothes were huge on me. I had to tighten the sweatpants a dozen times before it actually stayed still without it slipping off my waist.

I went back out to the living room where Cas was still watching tv.

He looked at me for few seconds and began laughing. "They are huge," he said.

"Oh shut up, it's not my fault your clothes don't fit me," I rolled my eyes and took my seat back on the sofa.

"You still look cute tho," he smiled.
It
"Thanks," I said a little awkwardly.

"So you wanna watch me or head on to bed?" He asked.

"I don't care. I'm not that tired anyway," I said.

"Me neither," he shrugged his shoulder. "Then let's just watch a movie. I'll go get us some blanket, and you make the popcorn," he said.

"Deal!"

I got up from the sofa and went into the kitchen. I rummaged through the cupboard before finding the box of popcorn bags. I ripped one open and put it into the microwave, and let it cook.

"Did you get it?" Cassian asked, walking into the kitchen.

"Ya," I said.

He came to stand next to me. "You know this is like old-time," he mentioned.

I smiled. "Except Tyler is not here,"

"Ya, well, if he were here, he would probably never let us sleep," he said. I giggled. "His snoring was always the loudest," I said.

"You have no idea. Try sleeping right next to him,"

We laughed.

It was nice being with Cassian. He always seemed to make me forget about everything.

"Storm... I need to tell you something,"

For a moment, I noticed something in Cassian's eyes when he stared at me. His beautiful chocolate brown eyes were staring back into mine, and suddenly I felt it.

I didn't want him to say anything to me. I didn't want him to say it and change the one good thing we have. Our friendship.
