Chapter 15 - "Improvement..."
Chapter 15 - "Improvement..."
Clara's PoV
'No. You don't get it do you?' John yelled as we walked into the hospital, and down the corridor.
'Don't get what? She's my daughter as much as yours. I don't want her to die either but we might not have a choice' I scoffed.
'What the Fuck would you know about her being your daughter? You ignored them for 4 years and then when you got the chance to be with them you fucked off again? What chance has the poor kid got?' He snapped.
'That is not fair. I'm sick myself if you haven't noticed'
'It's all about you isn't it Clara. I'd rather you be up there dying than her'
'And so would I? You have no idea in the last 12 hours how much this has killed me'
'Yes I do. I've Fucking felt with two weeks of the madness' he yells angrily and spat in my face again.
'You have no idea do you. How much I want that to be me in that room but it's not. What do you want me to do about i--'
'Stop. Stop arguing' Kat yelled as she approached an arguing me and John for the 10th time just this week.
'What?' He snapped
'You need to come. And you need to come now' she said.
'What? What the hells happening?' John cried in a panic all of a sudden. 'Tell me she's ok. Tell me for gods sake she not dead? How was the surgery? God tell me she's okay?'
'Take a breath John' I snapped rudely but he was just asking all the things that we were both thinking.
'Nothing. It's good. I promise' she said extending a hand and making us follow her quickly.
The three of us ran down the corridor in a huge panic, but if it was a good thing I can't work out why we were panicking so much, but either way we all blundered through the room to see several other people in there and John ran straight to the side of the bed and grabbed her hand.
'Where's the machine gone?'
'She's breathing alone. Look at her chest. She woke up' Kat said, as we watched her chest rise and fall on its own.
She was doing it herself.
'She didn't?'
'She did. Briefly. Woke up coughing which prompted us to remove all the machinery'
'But she arrested a few hours ago?'
'Clearly that was what has shocked her and bought her back with us. She's doing it herself without assistance' Kat promised.
'How was the operation?'
'We inserted a splint that should work. It will keep the mending and healing ribs from injuring themselves any more but to be honest she's probably going to be on bed rest for the remainder of the time it takes her ribs to heal'
'So if she's doing it herself... Why is she asleep again now?' I asked.
'She's now in what is called an induced coma. We'll wake her up gradually over the next couple of days. It won't be good for her body to wake up all in one go and plus she's likely to be stiff and frightened'
'But she's conscious?'
'She can probably hear you right now. She knows your here. She is conscious' she confirmed.
'You take your time sweetheart. Don't you rush into anything' John whispered.
'Evie's the queen of rushing. She'll be bouncing around the room this time next week' I joked to lighten the mood a little.
'Not the time Clara' John muttered.
'Sorry' I said, stroking her hand.

'Do you have to rustle through your bag that loudly?' John scoffed as I was looking through the bag for all my evening medications.
It was now half past 11 so practically the time I would normally go to bed.
Even if I wasn't sleeping tonight - it doesn't mean that I can't take the because I really have no choice.
'Sorry' I mumbled as he went back to counting under his breath the beeps of the machines that were registering Evie's heart beat.
'Your still doing it' he scoffed as I rummaged carefully through a box but it obviously was too loud for his liking.
'I'm sorry' I mumbled knowing that I had to take them so left the room.
It wasn't until I had left the room and gotten to the bathroom that I realised that my bag was in the room so I went strolling back to grab it when I looked through the window in wonder and witnessed a coughing girl laying on the bed with her eyes open.
'She's awake?' I scoffed seeing her on the bed as John was soothing her and trying to clam her down.
'It's okay. It's okay. Daddy's here' he said in tears and kissing her forehead as she was in tears and having an obvious panic attack. 'Shush. I'm not going anywhere' he promised her as she tried lifting her arms for a hug and some comfort in a cuddle - but she was pretty weak and it would probably hurt her sides and ribs.
'Is she okay?'
'She's fine. This is pretty typical for a child coming out of a coma. She's confused and scared and just wants someone to hug her that she knows' Kat smiled at me, as I approached the bed and grabbed her hand but she flinched away.
'Shush. Calm down munchkin. It's just Mummy. No ones going to hurt you' he promised.
'No. No. Go away. Go away' she said in mumbled but they came out clear as day. 'Daddy, daddy. Help me. Don't go daddy' she squeaked in a high pitched dry throat that hadn't been used in days.
Her voice box sounded strained and she genuinely did look scared as she looked at me.
'Her monitor is increasing. Her heart rate is going mad. Clara leave' Kat shouted.
'What? I'm her mother'
'Your distressing her and I don't want to have to put her back into a coma. Leave now' she snapped.
