Blurry Faces

The hole was reserved. The energy was pumping. Excitement, like electricity, flew in the air.

"Oh, I can't wait to meet her! What's she like?" Pink asked excitedly. "However you want her to be like, my Diamond." A quartz soldier replied with a salute.

"Oh!" She gushed, crouching down by the hole on her knees and waiting.

Five minutes passed by.

"Is she coming out soon?" Pink asked with a raised eyebrow.

"My Diamond, gems can take a long time to emerge. Do you want to keep waiting?"

She sighed. "No, no, I've got a ball to prepare for. I'll come back sometime tomorrow."

And with that, she was escorted back to the palace, hoping that her new best friend would be ready to play by tomorrow.

-

Pink had sat by the hole for ages. She was so excited to meet her new best friend, especially after what happened to her pearl.

But she just wasn't coming out. It had been a year, and nobody thought she would.

But Pink knew she would. Even if it was a little frustrating, she knew she would.

And so, yet again, she crouched down by the hole of her new best friend. She smiled at it. "Hey, spinel! It's so good to see you again!"

No reply, but she imagined she was talking. "I threw a wonderful ball the other night! Oh, I wish you could've seen it! It was incredible..."

She sighed. "Thousands of gems came to see us, spinel. I hope one day you'll be one of the thousands..."

Then, she gave a forced grin, and patted the stone wall around the hole with her hand. "But, hey! I'm sure you'll be coming out soon, right? That'll be exciting! We can play games together in our garden, whatever we want to do!"

Then, she stood up, not removing her hand from the wall. "I love you, and you're going to be great."

-

Pink was unbelievably frustrated. She'd been asking for a colony for hundreds of years now, surely she was mature enough by now to have one!

She'd been throwing so many balls to try and impress the other Diamonds, to do her best and prove that she was worthy, but it just wasn't working! Nothing she ever did was good enough for them!

And so, after a long day of frustration and toxicity, she needed to cool down. She sat by the hole.

She didn't say anything at first. But then, she spoke.

"I don't get it...aren't I old enough now to have a colony?"

She stared sadly at the empty hole.

"I bet you'd let me have one...wouldn't you?"

Then, suddenly, the empty hole began to glow. Pink knew it would soon be full, and her eyes sparkled with delight.

Her new best friend popped out of the hole, instantly engulfing Pink into a tight embrace.

She giggled, and Pink laughed, embracing her back.

"Welcome to the world, spinel!"

Pink opened her eyes to get her first look at her new spinel, only to be met with yellow skin instead of pink.

Her smile immediately faded.

No. This was wrong. She was supposed to be pink, not yellow..! What would she do now?

Pink desperately looked to the quartz soldiers surrounding the area as the spinel held on tighter, giggling.

They grabbed destabilizers, and approached with stern expressions.

She looked over to them with a grin, and giggled. "What kind of toys are those?"

They came into contact with her body barely even milliseconds after, poofing her into a yellow cloud of dust.

Pink was more disappointed than anything. Definitely not mad though, of course not. She didn't deserve anger, she just came out a little...okay, very wrong. At least in Pink's eyes.

"Is there anything we can do?" Pink asked. They shook their heads.

"We apologize...my Diamond. This is an outrage and a disappointment, we'll give this deformed spinel to the SRS facility."

She sighed. "Of course. Take her away, please."

But little did they know that the deformed spinel heard everything.

The quartz soldier holding her gem looked down on it in disgust. Then, another quartz got an idea.

"My Diamond, we shall fix you up a brand new spinel immediately. Upon your blessing, of course."

Pink suddenly gave a small smile. "Really..? She won't turn out like that one, will she?"

The quartz smiled. "Of course not, my Diamond. We will make sure of that."

"Then let's do it!" She cheered with a grin.

The quartzes set everything up, and her spinel was ready to go.

Pink was crouched by yet another hole. It began to glow almost immediately. She gave a big, excited grin.

Out of the hole emerged another spinel, but this one was just right. Pink smiled. "That's better!" She cheered.

"What's better, best friend?" This new, better one giggled, hugging her tight. "You!" Pink chuckled, hugging back. "Do you want to come see our garden?" She asked.

"We have a garden?!" The better one cried, her eyes sparkling with happiness. Pink chuckled. "Yes, we do! You'll love it, let's go now!"

"Okay!" The new, better one sang, walking hand in hand towards the warp pad with Pink.

The spinel kept watching from inside her gem, hatred growing inside her. She had loved her only a moment ago, what was wrong with her?

Everything. Everything was wrong with her.

She couldn't stop thinking. All of those times when Pink had told her that she loved her...they had been lies.

Some time passed. There were two spinels, a red one and a purple one. They took her gem, and got into a green ship.

"What a bitch." The purple one said after putting the gem down. The red one gasped. "Purple! That's a diamond, you can't just say that!" She panicked.

"What? It's the truth!" The purple one said, shrugging. "She's a brat! What, now this kid deserves to be dumped somewhere else just because she ain't pink enough? Too fucking bad!" The purple one raved, slamming a random hatch closed.

The red one sighed, and shook her head.

The two spinels sat down in their seats, each giving a look of sympathy to the gem as they blasted off into space.

Not long after they returned to SRS, tons of spinels were gathering around them, questioning anything and everything.

"Is she okay?"

"Did you see Pink Diamond?"

"What's her name?"

"What does she look like?"

"Did you get hurt?"

"WHY WOULD SHE THROW AWAY A PERFECTLY GOOD FIGHTER?! On second thought, she's got the build of a collector...you can tell even before she emerges."

"Guys, move your asses out of the way!" Purple shouted, shoving spinels left and right.

"Clear a path, bitches! This one's going straight to commander Jade!" Red yelled, giving a few black eyes.

"Bitch!" Green yelled from in the crowd. "Thanks!" Red retorted, opening the door for Purple and quickly closing it when they were inside.

"God...a spinel gets abandoned by a Diamond, and SRS has a fucking coronary."

Purple snorted. "Well then, she's not gonna last long in this place."

She knew who she had to be. She thought she was Aven, but she couldn't have been wronger. Aven was good, and she was obviously bad.

Those quartz soldiers made an oopsie while making her...

Oopsie?

Oopsi?

Oop?

Oops. She knew who she was now. She could feel herself coming back, and she knew who she needed to be, forever.

She reformed, but this time, her gem tilted to the side.

She changed herself to look like who she really was inside...a monster.

She came face to face with a dark aqua colored spinel. She was blinded by rage, frantically looking around.

"Where is she?" She asked through gritted teeth. "Where did she run?"

"She left you here, spiky." The spinel replied. "She thinks you're not good enough, not strong enough."

Then, she put her hand on her shoulder. "But you can prove them wrong."

Oops narrowed her eyes. "Who are you?"

The spinel chuckled. "I'm your new commander, commander Jade. But you're going to call me commander."

"And what if I don't?"

She smirked. "Then you'd better hope I'm in a good mood. You've got the build of a collector, go find someone."

Oops raised an eyebrow, and was ushered out of the room by commander.

She looked around the hall, and saw one spinel. She approached her.

"Hey...commander said that I should find someone. Show me around now, she said that I'm a collector."

Then, the spinel smiled widely. "Of course! I'm always happy to show a fellow collector around! You'll catch onto it sooner than you think, trust me."

Then she held Oops' hand, walking through the halls. "What's your name?" Oops asked.

The pink spinel smiled at her. "Heli, nice to meet you! We're gonna be great friends, I can already tell~!"

Oops' brain teaser of the day: This is as light as a feather, yet no man can hold it for long. What am I?
