Chapter 6-Josh

Erin held her breath as we went up the stairs on the back wall of the factory to Hank's office...if you could call it that. The only thing 'office like' was the desk in the corner covered in piles of paper but the rest of the room was a mess of clothes strewn about the floor and random trinkets. Two of the walls were glass panels that looked out over the rest of the factory but they were grimy so you couldn't actually see out of them.

Hank was in the corner, propped up on a king-sized bed with two girls either side of him and a bottle of beer in his hand. Erin stiffened next to me so I put myself further forward than her. "Ahh, friends," Hank said in a slurred voice. He set the bottle down on the bedside table and detached himself from the two girls in the bed. "I trust you've got everything you need."

"Yes, we have," I said. "Thank you for letting us ask around."

"No problem, kid," Hank said. He made his way over to the desk and sat down at it, grabbing a new piece of paper and a pen. "I make a point of always taking the names of my clients, what they buy and what they pay."

"Very clever," Erin said dryly.

"Why, thank you, sweetness," Hank said. "Now, what are your names then?" I hesitated.

"Jim Parker and Scarlett Johnson," I said, making up some names on the spot.

"Scarlett, huh," Hank said, wiggling his eyebrows at Erin. "A very pretty name for a very pretty young lady." I could literally smell the alcohol on his breath from here and it wasn't making my temper any better. How dare he treat Erin like that.

"So, you got your information for your boss," Hank said. "Now where's my payment? Where's my Triple tech?" Erin unzipped her bag and handed the bullet case to me. She was biting her lip again. I locked eyes with her as she passed it over. She was just as nervous as me.

"What the hell is that?" Hank cried as a put the bullet case on his desk. "You said Triple tech. All I see here is a hunk of metal." His men had closed in us, looking pretty cross.

"This is Triple tech," I said, trying to keep calm. "I'm guessing that you have something precious to you that someone gave as payment. You put it here and nothing can get to it without your permission. Nothing can cut into it and you can't blow it up. And as you can see, there is no padlock either. Once you shut it, it will lock tight and will look like a normal chunk of metal. You won't even be able to see a line for where it opens from. If someone steals it from you, it won't open until they get outside a five mile radius from here. The should give you enough time to catch them, if they think a piece of metal is worth stealing anyway." Hank suddenly looked very impressed.

"Huh," he said. "That's pretty useful." Of course I had to make things up a bit. Once he shut it, he'd have to go a five mile radius to open it. It didn't open with his permission, but I was sure Hank was stupid enough not to ask that.

"So, a deals a deal," I said, trying to wrap things up quickly. "We should get going now. Thanks for all your help." Erin and I turned towards the door but Hanks men blocked us.

"Now hold on just a minute there," Hank said, smiling nastily. He had stood up and was now holding a gun in his hand. "You see, I've been told differently to why you're here." He signalled outside the door and one of his men came in, pushing the guy we talked to about the batteries with him.

"This young fellow told us that you were here because Charles Hunt owes your family some money," Hank said. "You told us that Hunt is your boss. So, how about you tell us who you really are and why you're really here."

"We don't exactly like to tell everyone our life story," Erin said, trying to quickly come up with a reason. Her fists were clenched like she was ready for a fight. "You know what the world is like. We have no idea who is working for Triple and who isn't. We only tell the people that affect what we're doing the truth."

"I don't believe you!" Hank shouted. "I gave you two a chance when you came in here. My men were all against it. They thought you were up to something. I believe them. You ain't leaving here before you tell me who the hell you are!" What do we do now? We can't tell him who we really are. He'd just use us like Triple have and that's the last thing Erin and I need.

Then the idea just popped into my head. Looking at Erin, she had read my thoughts and knew exactly what to do. I concentrated on the bullet case that was sitting on Hank's desk with all my might. Erin did the same and it rose to Hank's head level. "Err...Boss?" one of his men said.

"What Clint?" Clint didn't say anything; only pointed to the floating bullet case. Hank stared dumbfounded. "What the h-" He didn't get to finish. Erin and I smashed the case into his forehead. With a sickening crack Hank fell to the floor, knocked out. We then shifted our concentration to the other men. Flinging the box around, we hit another man on the back of the head and a third in the temple. They both crumpled. The remaining two men were running for the door. Working as one, Erin and I both dropped the bullet case and used telekinesis to grab their legs, dragging them back. They yelled out until we kicked them in the head. They were both out cold.

I turned to the girls in the bed who were staring, terrified, at us. "Go," I told them. "And don't say a word to anyone about this." They both nodded and climbed out the bed, leaving the room as quickly as possible. As soon as they left, we both collapsed onto the floor, leaning our backs against the desk, totally exhausted.

"We have to get out of here," Erin gasped.

"I know," I said through gritted teeth. I wanted to move but my head was killing me with a splitting headache. This is what too much telekinesis did to you.

"Oh. My. God," a voice said. It was the guy that gave us the information. I had forgotten about him. "What the hell are you? I knew you looked strange with your weird golden eyes and silvery hair. So are you aliens? Or robots? Or-"

"Ugh, just shut up," Erin cried, rubbing her temples. In the end, I pushed through the pain and heaved myself up, pulling Erin with me. She moaned a bit but got up too.

"We're complicated," I told him. "We can't tell you who we are because it would get you killed and us punished." I lifted up my shirt to show him the black bruise over my ribs were Erin healed the broken ones but not quite the bruises. "This is just a little bit of what we get. I suggest you don't tell anyone about us or what we can do. Please, for the sake of the world." He hesitated but then nodded.

"Thank you," Erin said kindly. "What's your name?"

"Harry," he said.

"Thanks, you can go." He left in a hurry but I could tell that we could trust him with our secret. I turned to Erin. "Get what you need," I told her and started rummaging in the pockets of the knocked out men. Within two minutes, I had two more fully loaded pistols and an M16. I shoved the pistols in my bag and slung the M16 over my shoulder before turning to Erin. She had two pistols in her hands, looking grim but ready for a fight.

"Shall we take the bullet case?" she asked. I thought for a moment.

"Yeah," I said. "Let's make sure Triple don't have anything they can punish us for." I took the case and put it in my bag. "Come on, we'd better go." We ran down the stairs from Hank's office, avoiding eye contact with anyone. I kept my finger on the trigger of the M16. Some of Hank's men were looking at us suspiciously but we walked past them like we knew exactly what we were doing. When we reached the exit, I had almost loosened my grip on the M16 when a loud speaker cut off the music.

"Get the new kids!" Hank's voice screeched over on the speaker. Everyone stopped what they were doing and were silent. "Get the kids and bring them to me!" I just had time to shove Erin through the door before all hell broke loose.
