Story 4
The wind blew cold, chilling to the bone. The sky lit up with hundreds, if not thousands, of stars. The park was where the stars shone the brightest. Almost like tiny beacons, it was always a blessing to witness. On days like these, there would be only one person silently strolling through the park listening to the sounds of the branches and leaves rustling whilst the birds and cicadas played their song, looking up at the tiny lights shining brightly.
This was usually the only peace and quiet they would get before getting home to a noisy household. Sure the wind would bite into them causing them to shiver slightly, especially since they only wore a jumper and jeans. A scarf, beanie, and gloves were the only thing protecting them from the bitter cold. They walked on the gravel path to the large field. It was around 6:30 but time didn't matter to them, just space. Being alone and processing their thoughts, while the sounds of nature grounded them.
They take a deep breath and exhale a small cloud of condensation. They start walking on the semi damp grass to the center. Their shoes slowly getting wet but they are not worrying about it. Once they got to the center they sigh and relax in the open space, silently laughing as to not disturb the silence that blanketed the field. They just stand and watch the moon, smiling at the emptiness of the sky as the tiny stars begin shining brighter and getting clearer.
After some time they look behind them feeling watched. They smirk seeing a silhouetted figure looking like they were tip-toeing towards them freezing when they see the person in the center looking at them. Almost instantly the person in the center of the field recognizes the other, so they smile and wave prompting them to keep getting closer. The person, knowing they'd been recognized, begins to speed up, ignoring the bitter chill but still wanting to maintain the silence that was so comforting to the two. When they get to the other they smile and take their hand, and hug. Continuing to look up and the sky together in silence. The new company did not make things awkward but it was more calming and tranquil.
After some time they move from the centre of the field to a park bench and sit. Silence is the only thing being heard, the newer company begins to shiver slightly as the original stargazer watches opening their arms to share a little warmth. They take the invite calmly as they feel arms wrap around them and lean their head on the others' shoulders gazing at the sky. Smiling, enjoying the silence together.
More time passes and the moon has moved a substantial distance from its original place in the sky when they both decide to leave. They give each other one last look before silently agreeing to get a coffee the following day to talk. Giving the other one last final hug, sighing and, with a gentle smile, they wave and go their separate ways. one walking while the other gets into their car. Looking at the time the both unconsciously laugh, 9 o'clock.
