Kidnapping

We had to write a piece with a feeling of foreboding in it for English...

This was mine...

My teacher said that if I ever wrote a book, she would read it...

:D

Yay...

Enjoy...
-----------------------------------------------------

The clock reads three am, and Sarah wants to sleep.

But she can't. The sounds around her won't let her. The crickets in the garden play sweet melodies that fill her ears with their song. The stifling wind moans as it dances past her open window, through her light pink curtains and under her soft white sheets.

Then, she hears a new sound. A strange sound. A sound that she had never heard before. 'Thud...Thud...Thud' in a continuous rhythm. It comes from downstairs. That, she is sure of. It is too far away to be coming from upstairs.

The clock now reads three-thirty am, and Sarah wants to sleep. But she can't. This strange noise won't let her. Neither will her curiosity. She pushed back the comfort of her bed and sets her small, pale feet on the warm wooden floor. She gently tiptoes to the hallway, concern edging her on. To a six year old like her, such a simple mission feels like the adventure of a lifetime.

She scurries past her parents bedroom, past the cold bathroom and the humid study room where the cat curled on the armchair hissed in warning and the dog whimpered in fear as she crept past, oblivious to their cries. The strange sound continued on and on as she came closer to it. The stairs creaked and groaned under her weight as she walked down them and into the living room.

Then, the sound stopped. Leaving the house in silence. This baffled the young girl as her wide eyes, scanned the room. Her heart quickening ever so slightly. She turned to go back to the the safety of her room when a pale hand lashed out from the darkness, latching its fingers around her thin arm and she froze, her beating heart stopping as well. A voice then said in a hushed, but firm tone "Shhh... We don't want to wake your parents now do we?" The voice is familiar to her. But she can't place it. Perhaps it was a friend, a neighbour. But it was neither.

The clock now reads four am, and Sarah doesn't want to sleep anymore...
