Here's my entry, helloilovecats!

"Finchclaw! Finchclaw! Can you tell us a story?"

Finchclaw blinked open his eyes and turned to face the five eager faces staring up at him, a purr forming in his throat. "Of course!" he mewed, sitting down and curling his tail around his paws. "What do you want to hear about?"

Flutterkit bounced up and down excitedly. "Oo! Oo! Tell us about the territory!"

Her brother, Leafkit, whacked her with his tail. "That's not even a story! Tell us about the FlickerClan battle!"

Finchclaw purred quietly. "I'll explain the territory, young ones."

"Hah!" purred Flutterkit.

"Shut up," muttered Leafkit.

"Settle down, settle down," he mewed, and the kits did so obediently. Their eyes blinked up at him expectantly as he cleared his throat and began.

"Here in MuffleClan, we are named for the moss that smothers our voices," began Finchclaw, tapping the moss in question lightly with his tail. "The moss makes our camp nearly silent from the outside, and soften our steps so invaders can never hear us coming...the moss keeps us alive." The kits looked down at the moss under their paws in awe. He cleared his throat and continued. "If you travel left of where the sun rises, you will see that the moss of our camp only thickens."

Beekit perked up excitedly. "Oo! So we're quieter than the others?" He began creeping forward carefully before his sister Flutterkit pounced on his quivering tail. Finchclaw, sensing a conflict brewing, quickly continued.

"That's right," he agreed. "And though we are known for being soft for not using our claws..." Here he paused for emphasis, his tail swishing slowly behind him. "...we are the deadliest of all the Clans." He padded over to the prey pile and grabbed a mouse from the top, motioning to its crushed head. "See here? Even without our claws, our leaps are stronger than any other Clan. We can land on our enemy, with enough force to knock unconscious...or even kill."

Leafkit blinked. "Wow!" he squeaked. A tiny scowl crossed his features. He pounced on a spot of moss, toppling over with a mew of annoyance. "I'm going to be the best pouncer!" he cried.

Flutterkit whipped around to face him. "No! I am!"

"Are not!"

"Are too!"

"Are not--"

"Kits, kits," interrupted Finchclaw in amusement. "Don't you want me to finish the story?"

The two kits quieted instantly, turning to face the light brown tabby eagerly. "Yes!" they cried in unison.

Finchclaw purred. "Good. At that border, the one where the air cools and the snow falls thicker, live the sturdy cats of SpruceClan, who claim that in leaf-bare they must dig out of their den through the snow."

"No way!" squeaked Gorsekit. "Really? That's so...so...so cold!"

"Very true," he nodded, purring. "That's why I live here. Now, if you travel to where the sun rises, you will find a stream. And not any stream-- but a special stream. Where we fish, drink...and where our medicine cats speak to the stars."

"Wow," breathed Beetlekit. "Really?"

Finchclaw nodded. "Yes...the Moonlit Circle is the gateway to the land of the dead...the land of our ancestors." He glanced at his listeners with satisfaction, seeing their captivated expressions. "Beyond that stream," he continued, "live the rogues, loners and kittypets-- those who live without the code of warriors. Never venture there, young ones, for those cats have no loyalty and no rules-- any friendship there will not last."

Gorsekit shivered violently, wrapping her tail around her brother Beetlekit, who swatted it away in annoyance. "T-they will betray you?"

Finchclaw nodded solemnly. "They will." He glanced around to the other kits, nodding to himself as they appeared suitably scared of crossing that specific border. "Now, to the direction where the sun sets, lie the rival Clans of FlickerClan and SquirrelClan..." His voice trailed off dramatically as the kits' interest were piqued. "There, the moss fades away and the trees grow tall. There, we watch the border from the treetops, always making sure they don't enter our territory in one of their battles..."

"Have they done that before?" breathed Leafkit, eyes wide.

"No, young one, but they have gotten close. Very close," revealed Finchclaw. "And then to the opposite direction of SpruceClan lies a dead and dry land occupied by TumbleClan...where the plants cry for water and the ground is not softened by moss, but covered by the driest dirt. I've seen strange, pointy plants that grow tall among the heat, and it's been said that TumbleClan are the fastest of all five Clans..."

Flutterkit tilted her head. "Should we be worried about them invading us? I mean, if their territory is so bad..."

Finchclaw purred. "No, they're a tiny Clan. Nothing much can live out there."

Flutterkit nodded, reassured. "Where do we meet?" she asked curiously. "I know mama went to a Gathering..."

Finchclaw nodded. "Yes, every full moon, cats from all the Clan gather at the Ancient Roots on FlickerClan territory. There we meet in peace...though the peace has been broken before..." He broke off, lost in thought.

"Really?" asked Beetlekit. "When was that?"

Finchclaw shook his head. "No, that's a story for another time..." he mewed. "But there, the leaders sit on the highest root-- as wide as an oak tree!-- and the deputies sit underneath."

Beekit gasped. "Wow!"

"Kits!" called a voice from inside the nursery. "It's time to sleep!"

"Awww!" coursed the kits in unison. "Just a little longer?"

Finchclaw shook his head in amusement and turned away, herding into the den. "It's naptime for you, young ones." He purred. "When you're apprentices, you'll be wishing you still had naps."

"Bye!" called Beekit to Finchclaw, who settled back down in his place outside of the nursery. "Tell us more stories tomorrow!"

"Or teach us hunting!" suggested Leafkit eagerly.

Finchclaw purred. "Sure, sure. Now, go sleep now," he mewed. One by one, the little heads dropped in a deep slumber, and Finchclaw curled up on the mossy floor of the forest.
