Chapter 4: A Warm Welcome Home
Last time we got to see Conrad converse with his sisters after the fiasco in the arena. Now he also walked around Amazon Lily where he encountered Marguerite, Sweet Pea, and Aphelandra. Now of course he'll wake up to his first day back home.
It was an interesting thing for Conrad to wake up in his old bedroom, he looked around the room only to find it hadn't changed much since he last lives in it five years ago. It was a rather simple space compared to the rather luxurious appearance of his eldest sister's room. He had a canopy bed, there was a desk on the other side of the room was his desk where his bag was currently resting. On the right side wall was his wardrobe, filled with his clothes from five years ago, which no longer fit him given his more developed physique. On the left side wall was a rather large bookshelf, which was the housing of Conrad's favorite pastime. Conrad let out a small yawn before throwing the covers off as he climbed out of bed.
Conrad ran a hand through his long hair as he walked over to his bag where he pulled out a pair of long blue pants. Conrad removed the shorts he slept in before putting on the longer pants. Conrad stretched as he looked out the window to see that the sun was already up in the sky. "Geez I overslept, hopefully the Vice Admiral didn't try and contact me while I was out." Conrad mumbled to himself as he usually woke up while the sun was only beginning to rise. "Portgas D. Ace's execution is approaching, sister and I will have to head off to Marineford tomorrow at the latest." Conrad mumbled to himself as he pulled out a white t-shirt that had the Marine logo on the front of it as he set it down on his bed.
Outside Conrad's Home
Sandersonia stood outside the door of Conrad's bedroom as she stared at the door for a moment. The truth was that Sandersonia still felt bad over the whole issue that led to her brother's disappearance. Of course fighting and hurting her brother in the arena before finding out who he was did not help this guilt at all. Sandersonia let out a gentle sigh before knocking on the door to her brother's room. "Conny? Are you awake?" Sandersonia asked as she waited for a response from the other side of the door. "Yeah Sonia, I'm awake." Conrad said as Sandersonia let out a gentle sigh of relief before she slowly opened the door to her brother's bedroom so they could talk face to face.
Sonia was not prepared for the sight that greeted her on the other side of the door. Her little brother was shirtless, but that wasn't the issue. There were multiple small scars over his body, some were from bullets, others were small burn scars. The one that drew most of her attention however was a large slash wound scar that started at Conrad's left shoulder and ended at his right hip. "Do you need something Sonia?" Conrad asked as he looked over his shoulder at his elder sibling. Sandersonia marched up to Conrad before crouching down and gently running a hand along the large scar on her little brother's back.
"Conny, who did this to you?" Sandersonia hissed as Conrad could sense the anger in his older sister's tone. Conrad was a bit surprised at the aggression he could feel from his sister, while he knew his sisters cared after their conversations they had yesterday this was a bit much. "I'm a Marine, Sonia, back in the first couple months when I was still getting a handle on Haki were a challenge." Conrad said simply as he didn't see his scars as that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. Sandersonia gently gripped her brother's shoulder before forcing him to turn around and face her. "Conny, don't talk like you dying is not a serious issue! What if you died before coming back to Amazon Lily?!" Sandersonia hissed as Conrad was slightly taken aback by his sister's reaction.
Conrad knew that his sisters did feel guilty about how they treated him five years ago, but it seems he underestimated how guilty Sandersonia was over the whole issue. Conrad gently placed his hand on top of his sister's larger hand in a comforting way. "Don't worry Sonia, I don't have any plans on dying." Conrad said as he tried to put his sister's mind at ease. "T-That doesn't mean it can't happen. I lost you once Conny, I don't want to lose you again." Sandersonia said in a quiet tone as she pulled her brother into a gentle hug. Conrad returned the hug as he felt his sister's body shake slightly in what he could only assume was fear and worry. Conrad might have to ask for some vacation time after the execution at Marineford.
Dinning Room
The Boa family sat ate breakfast together with Gloriosa present as well. "Conrad, what exactly does this gathering at Marineford entail?" Conrad turned his attention towards Hancock as his eldest sister gave him a curious look. "The Warlords are there to assist us to make sure the execution goes off without a hitch. Considering Portgas D. Ace is a Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, there's a good chance Whitebeard will arrive in an attempt to save him." Conrad explained to his sister as this was just a standard procedure. "What exactly are your thoughts on the whole thing?" Hancock said in a dangerous tone as Sandersonia, Marigold, and Gloriosa stiffened at the tone of voice the Pirate Empress used.
Conrad remained unfazed by his sister's dark tone as he looked her dead in the eye. "If your asking my opinion on the execution of Fire Fist. I personally find executing a person based solely on who their father is to be rather unjust. Unfortunately they don't put people such as myself in charge of those decisions." Conrad said calmly as Hancock relaxed slightly at her little brother's response. "I'm assuming your asking since the Captain of the Strawhat Pirates, Monkey D. Luffy ended up here on Amazon Lily? Commodore Smoker mentioned Fire Fist and Strawhat seemed to know each other when he encountered them in Alabasta." Conrad said casually as his eldest sister looked at him in complete shock.
Conrad could tell that his sister was caught off guard by his words and he felt like he had an idea of where Strawhat currently was. "Is that why you went to Impel Down? Did you sneak Strawhat in Hancock?" Conrad asked in a tone that held no judgement, just curiosity. Hancock remained silent, her brother was a Marine, but she also owed him her trust after they ignored him when they were younger. "Yes, Luffy wanted to go to Impel Down to rescue Fire Fist." Hancock admitted much to the surprise of everyone else at the table. Conrad was even more surprised by the light blush that was on his eldest sister's face. "Unbelievable, does my sister have affections for Strawhat? As far fetched as that may seem, there's no way she would help a man unless they were special to her." Conrad thought to himself as he would have to keep an eye on Strawhat more then he thought.
Conrad leaned back in his chair as he let out a sigh before chuckling, which surprised everyone. "To think a man could breakthrough the steel barrier around your heart sister. Unfortunately Fire Fist is already being moved to Marineford. Now Strawhat is trapped in Impel Down with Warden Magellan. I don't mean to worry you Hancock, but no one has ever left the hellish landscape of Impel Down. Except in a coffin of course." Conrad said frankly as he knew how dangerous Impel Down was for those locked within it. Hancock seemed to pale slightly at her brother's words, but quickly decomposed herself before gently smiling at her little brother with confidence in her eyes.
"If anyone can break out of Impel Down, it's Luffy." Hancock said with complete confidence in her voice. Conrad smirked before playing with the blue bandanna he had tied around his forehead. "Given Strawhat's track record I wouldn't be surprised honestly. Frankly, I don't know why anyone was shocked he punched a Celestial Dragon considering he declared war on the World Government a few weeks before that." Conrad said as his sisters and Gloriosa were shocked at the statement about Luffy declaring war on the World Government of all things. "What in the world would compel him to do something as suicidal as that?!" Marigold said in complete disbelief.
"He stormed the Judicial Island of Enies Lobby to rescue his crew mate Nico Robin from being executed. They escaped with her before it was hit with a Buster Call. I cannot tell you the stories of absolute insanity about Strawhat and his crew from other Marines on base. It's no wonder he ended up becoming a Supernova." Conrad said as he finished eating before getting up and stretching. "I'll be out training in the jungle if you need me." Conrad said as he bid farewell to his sisters and Gloriosa before making his way out of the Palace. While the Boa sisters were stunned, they were also concerned about what exactly what danger their little brother had gotten himself into by joining the Marines.
Jungle
Conrad was in his hybrid form as he was surrounded by trees and thick foliage. Conrad crouched down before jumping high into the air above the trees. Conrad twisted himself around so he was looking down at the trees below. Conrad twisted in the air before kicking off the top of a tree before being propelled forward. Conrad kicked off another tree before landing on a branch of a tree. "Okay, let's see if I can finally figure out that Geppo technique." Conrad mumbled to himself as he quickly sprung high into the air once again. Conrad then kicked the air as he was propelled upwards once again as he flew higher into the air.
Conrad smirked as he kicked off the air again as he propelled himself higher into the air by his kick. "Looks like I finally got a handle on this technique." Conrad thought to himself as he attempted another kick, only for it to fail as he started to fall. "Dammit! Guess I still have some work to do before I get a handle on Geppo." Conrad thought to himself before he twisted himself around. Conrad then kicked off the branch of a tree before landing in a clearing within the jungle. Conrad let out a sigh of relief as he was back on the ground before he sat on the ground cross legged. Conrad was about to meditate when he heard a rustling from behind him.
While the rabbit was in no way the strongest animal, it had its own perks that gave Conrad an edge in combat. "I know your there, no point in hiding it." Conrad said as he heard the figure approach him. Conra looked over his shoulder to see a girl with short brown hair in a purple outfit with a notebook out that she was writing in.
"How can I help you?" Conrad asked as he knew that this member of the Kuja Tribe obviously followed him. "Hello Boa Conrad. It is an honor, my name is Nerine. Do not be alarmed, I just wanted to study you." Nerine said as Conrad gave her a slightly confused look.
"Study me?" Conrad repeated in a slightly uncomfortable tone as he gave the girl a concerned look. "Yes, I'm rather interested in the curse you've been afflicted with. While it is similar to your sisters, I still don't know how you were able to overcome your sisters." Nerine said as she walked up to Conrad as she looked over the rabbit-human hybrid from a somewhat close distance. "Rabbits don't have natural strength, I simply attempt to move fast enough to increase the force of my attacks." Conrad simply as he tried to shrug off. "So that's why you were bouncing around so fast, a buildup of speed? How interesting." Nerine said as Conrad got into a meditation position.
Conrad closed his eyes as he focused with his Observation Haki, his rabbit ears stood up straight as if they were attempting to hear something. Conrad focused for any nearby emotions, he sensed curiosity from Nerine, but that wasn't what he was looking for. His ears twitched before pointing directly behind him, he sensed the emotions of anger and concern approaching his location. "Nerine, you may want to leave for the time being. I promise to answer your questions when I get a free moment." Conrad said without opening his eyes or even turning to look at the girl. Nerine didn't understand, but knew the youngest Boa sibling must have a good reason to tell her this as she quickly left the area.
Conrad remained calm as Hancock and Marigold entered the area as they saw their little brother in his hybrid form with his ears pointing at them. "Conrad, when we're you planning on telling us about the scar on your back?" Hancock said in a stern tone as Conrad finally opened his eyes before getting back on his feet and reverting to his human form. "Sonia told you about that? I assure you that it is no big deal, just an old injury." Conrad said in a dismissive tone as he was about to leave when Hancock grabbed him by the shoulder. "Conrad, please just tell us what happened." Hancock said in a desperate tone as she hoped her brother would be honest with her on what happened.
Conrad sighed as he knew that his sisters probably wouldn't let this go anytime soon. "Remember when I mentioned the Supernovas at breakfast? I have a vendetta against two of them." Conrad said as he pulled out two wanted posters and showed them to his sisters.
"X Drake, a former Rear Admiral for the Marines, before he abandoned us, I considered him a friend. I mostly want answers as to why he abandoned us." Conrad explained as he pointed to the poster of the man with a hat on his head. "Was he the one that gave you the scar on your back?" Marigold asked as her grip tightened on her naginata. "No, that would be Scratchmen Apoo. His Devil Fruit lets him turn any part of his body into instruments. If you can hear his fighting music, the attack will connect with your body." Conrad explained as both his sisters took into consideration how strong Conrad's hearing was thanks to his Devil Fruit powers.
Conrad put the wanted posters away before looking at Hancock. "Don't worry sister, I'm fine. The real question is are you fine?" Conrad asked, surprising his eldest sister. "What do you mean Conrad?" Hancock asked as she didn't quite understand what her brother was asking. "You care about Strawhat right? His friend is about to be executed. If you don't wish to attend like the other Warlords of the Sea, I'm sure I can make up a story about you falling ill." Conrad said as he didn't want to put his sister in an uncomfortable situation despite his orders to bring her to Marineford. Hancock let a smile spread across her face before she walked up to her little brother before pulling him into a gentle hug.
"I appreciate the concern Conrad, but I won't shirk my responsibilities this time. Not if I know my little brother could be in a potential war zone." Hancock said honestly as Conrad slowly returned the hug, a smile on his face as well. "We should probably return to the palace, wouldn't want Sonia to have a heart attack before the one we'll give her when we leave tomorrow." Conrad said causing both his sisters to laugh at his words. The trio of siblings started walking home, Conrad would let himself enjoy his time with his sisters and people. Come tomorrow, it's off to Marineford and back to the serious and dangerous life of a Marine. Part of Conrad didn't want to be apart of this execution, but he knew he couldn't abandon his fellow Marines during this critical time.
So Conrad and his sisters talked and caught up if not a little bit. Conrad seems to be practicing one of CP9's techniques and has developed a few techniques of his own. Now Conrad and Hancock must head to Marineford for the execution of Portgas D. Ace. What awaits Conrad and Hancock at Marineford? How will Conrad handle a war with the Whitebeard Pirates? How does Conrad truly view the execution of the son of the former Pirate King? Find out in the next chapter of One Piece: The Rabbit of Amazon Lily!
