The Living Dead (2)
A knock sounds at my door before I'm called out to leave. I know it's time to see Kai so I go out in haste to my meeting point with Aurora.
I had been coming back here at the Spirits Realm which was a realm that was looked after by a goddess. The spirits that came here, myself included, were spirits chosen by the goddess. I had not been given my duties in this realm yet, since I was talking care of things with Kai but I have been coming back with hope to score a meeting with the goddess.
I believe something is missing in my memories and once I know what's missing, I will be able to wrap up my issues on earth and leave the living to their own living and embrace my spiritual life.
The goddess has been busy unfortunately but I still waited with hope that her schedule would clear up sooner.
It had been three days now since the arrival of Jett but unfortunately, I had yet to meet him. The house had been hectic ever since his arrival and I can't recall if that was the norm of things and I just wasn't aware of it since I was on the other side of experiencing this life but now that I'm a maid I'm seeing things differently.
"Are you going to just go for it or wait for things to happen ordinarily?" Aurora asked as we appeared in Kai's room. I got busy right away as I settled in his body and wore the clothes I got for my appearance.
"I don't think I can wait anymore. I have a feeling that something horrible might happen but I don't know why. I feel guilty, angry and miserable at the same time. Like knowing that whatever horrible thing that might happen; I am the cause of it. But how can I be the cause? It's really frustrating me."
Aurora remained silent after my response and I was okay with that. I had a lot to think about so I didn't mind her silence as it gave me time to think.
What was I missing? Why was I missing it in the first place but the question that made my stomach turn was if I was going to be happy to find what it was I was missing. But I knew one thing for sure, that whatever it was I would get, I was going to see this through.
My head was in the cloud as I walked to the workplace. I got inside the premises absentmindedly and a horn blaring startled me so much I almost flew out of Kai's body. I glared at the car that was standing in my way. Or was I standing in its way? I wasn't sure and I didn't care.
A woman came out of the car when I didn't move and I knew who it was in an instant.
"Do you have a death wish?" She glared at me and I wanted to retort but what came out of my mouth was an apology. I even bowed and moved out of her way which made her smirk before driving off.
I looked at the car leaving but then something stood out to me when I noticed flowers at the back of her car. I knew those flowers because I was the one who grew them. It was something I did for my husband but why was Jett giving them away?
"Are you stupid? What is wrong with you?"
"What did I do?"
"You were about to challenge a witch! Like how stupid can a spirit get by doing that?"
I frowned as I thought about the woman. She was a horticulturist that Jett found for me. She had guided me as I grew the flowers that I saw earlier in her car. For some weird reason, no one but me managed to grew the flowers and I would get advise now and then from the woman who I had encountered a moment ago.
"She's a witch? Are you sure about that? I've known her for a while and I don't think she is plus I don't know why but I felt anger towards her." I frowned as my mind kept getting tangled in confused states.
Aurora sighed and touched my shoulder comfortingly. "Are you sure you want to be here today? We can go back and see if we can meet the goddess today."
I shook my head and began approaching the house. The goddess was busy and going back there and waiting would only make me restless. I was going to figure things out in any way possible and going into that house was a right option in the right direction.
Rhoda greeted me at the door and she gave me my duties of the day so I got busy right away. I convinced Aurora to help me so the cleaning was done in a snap of a finger. Jett was in his office but a guard stood outside which made it difficult for me to get closer to the office.
Working hand in hand with Aurora, I rolled a marble towards him and he looked at it strangely before bending down to pick it up. Aurora teared his trousers which made the guard stand back up in alarm. He looked at his backside where the tear was and he grimaced. He tried to call another guard but his communication was not working. We watched him debate with himself before he finally left his post and hurried away to deal with his incident.
I gave Aurora a thumbs up as I walked out of my hiding place and approached the office door. With her help, we managed to slightly open the office door without making a sound. I hardly made out Jett's features as the opening was so small to avoid getting his attention. He was busy typing away on his laptop until his phone beeped alerting him of an incoming call.
"What is it?" He answered the call bitterly. "I personally sent the invitations myself...no....just make sure our targets are gathered there and I don't care whether they are forcefully dragged there or willingly go themselves....she will be there at the function so you better do things right or else it's her wrath you will face....Sheryl has just collected the rest of them this morning so I wouldn't worry about that...No...Alright....it doesn't matter....he doesn't have a clue since he's busy mourning her death....haha-" Jett's voice disappeared the minute the door snapped shut.
A broom appeared in my hands and I pretended sweeping about just as a hand gripped my arm so hard I winced.
"What are you doing here?" A new guard snarled.
"I'm sweeping." I replied while showing him the broom in my hands.
He gave me a glare that promised death as he crosschecked everything plus knocking on Jett's door. The guard asked him if everything was alright and after he got dismissed he pushed me away from the door with a threat. I walked away stiffly and wondered aloud with my head in the crowd once again.
What was the call about? Who was mourning and for who? I recalled Sheryl was the one I encountered in the morning so what else did she get apart from the flowers I saw with her earlier? What were the invitations about and who were the targets?
I was frustrated with the blanks I was ending up with and I didn't know what I could do to fill them all. Are the answers something that I forgot? I looked up the stairs towards the office where Jett was cooped up in. All I did in the past days was see Jett from a distance and when I did my heart ached painfully.
"Perhaps I should meet him." I murmured to myself.
"What do you mean?"
I rolled my eyes at Aurora who was walking? beside me. I wasn't sure if I should call what she did as walking or hovering because her feet didn't quiet touch the floor but she was mimicking me as I paced back and off.
Before I came up with an explanation to Aurora, I pecked up as I heard Jett and his personal guard coming down the stairs. He was talking on phone and I smiled as I began forming my plan. I reached for a vase that had flowers in it but I removed them as I didn't want the flowers but rather the water in the vase.
I pretended being out of it as I turned around the minute Jett was about to pass me by. I tilted the vase in an angle that made the water dump on him as we bumped "accidentally".
I took both the guard and Jett off guard as they halted and looked at the mess I caused.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't know you were there. Let me help you with th-" I began apologizing but then one second I was there in front of him then another second I found myself with a throbbing cheek plus a cut lip and on the floor at his feet.
Shocked and dazed, I looked up to Jett and to say he was pissed was an understatement. I wanted to be suprised but for some reason, this situation seemed familiar.
I found myself reliving memories that were similar to this moment. On the floor with a bruised face; in his office, in our bedroom, in my office, in the bathroom, in the kitchen. My head hurt as the vial memories flooded my mind with a vengeance. I felt every punch, slap, kick and my body shuddered as I felt the burns.
"Worthless maid." He spat at me before moving pass me as he shredded his jacket.
"Worthless! Stupid wife! Slut! You are such a whore! Ugly bitch!"
The words sounded in my head as if Jett was saying them to me at that moment. Tears rained down my face as I sat there with one raw truth that death had hid from me.
"Are you okay? I am sorry I forgot to warn you about the boss's temper. Please stay away from him in future to avoid such incidents." Rhoda helped me up and walked me outside through the kitchen where a chair lay.
Once again, I stood facing the empty greenhouse. My heart was racing in my chest and I wondered what it was about the greenhouse that was calling out to me. I wondered what would happen if I could step inside. From what I remembered, the greenhouse was my safe haven but what if it held dark secrets just like the face my husband held?
For the remainder of the day, I spent my time staring at the greenhouse. The throbbing in my cheek was long gone as Kai's genes as a vampire helped healing the damage but much more slower than a normal vampire but faster than a human.
I got back to Kai's house and I made Aurora check him carefully if he was healed properly before leaving him as the sun was soon setting.
"I need to see the goddess." I told Aurora who sighed and ushered me towards my room.
"Look, the goddess is occupied right now and we haven't had her presence for a while now. You have to be patient."
I glared at the floor but there was nothing else I could do but wait for the goddess to come back.
So I stayed in my room without any interruption unless if the goddess arrived was I to be interrupted as I had told Aurora. However, I had to take some lessons on what was expected of me as a spirit.
I had just arrived back in my room after the lessons when Aurora appeared out of nowhere, startling me for a second.
"What are you doing?" I asked annoyed thinking she was just doing pranks.
"We have to go." She grabbed my hand and I protested in confusion.
"Aurora-"
"Something happened to Kai. We have to go."
I frowned as I wondered what had happened to make Aurora this frantic. I didn't have time to ask as she teleported us away from my room.
