Destination XII: The Goodbyes

Belle and Ariel had already sent Anastasia, Alice, and Cyrus back on their way to Wonderland and were now awaiting the group going back to Arendelle and DunBroch. Emma, Anna, Kristoff, Elsa, Liam, and Hook were the first to arrive followed shortly by Ruby, Mulan, and Doctor Whale. Ruby was wearing a doctor's jacket that was definitely not hers while Mulan seemed to be gripping her sword rather tightly.

"Hey," Belle said quietly. "You guys ready?"

Mulan nodded. "I think so."

Ariel and Belle passed out vials of the mermaid scale potion to Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Ruby, and Mulan. Before they could drink them, though, Merida and her family arrived.

"Hi," Merida greeted Belle, but there was no happiness in her tone of voice. "I heard it's time for them to head back to DunBroch?"

Belle nodded. "Yes. But even if they don't go back, when hiatus ends, everything will reset itself to how it was before hiatus began."

Ariel handed some of the potion to Merida's mother and three brothers.

Merida's family was first to leave, followed by Mulan, Kristoff, and Anna. Ruby turned to face her boyfriend. "I'm going to miss you."

"Don't miss me too much."

That caused Ruby to crack a smile. She pulled him into a kiss. When she backed away to drink the potion, the last words she said to Whale were, "I'm keeping the coat."

Whale rolled his eyes as she disappeared. "I should have known I'd need to get a new one."

Liam's arm was around Elsa and if the Queen of Arendelle were going to be honest, she didn't really want to leave the comfort of his side. But she had to some day, and it was better to do it by choice than to be violently ripped away as hiatus ended. So she pressed her cool lips against Liam's warm ones. "I'll see you again someday."

Liam nodded. "And I you."

Elsa drank the potion and disappeared. After she was gone, Liam turned to his brother and Emma. "To the Underworld?"

Emma nodded. "To the Underworld."

When the three arrived, a few people were already gone. Merlin, Nimue, the Seer, Ingrid, and King Fergus had already gone back to the Underworld. The rest, however, were waiting.

Regina was glancing nervously at the portal every few seconds when Emma, Liam, and Hook approached the group.

"You're here," Regina sounded relieved. "I don't know how long we have until someone notices the protection spells are gone and tries to crossover to Storybrooke."

Emma nodded. "Okay. Guess I should start my goodbyes then."

She said goodbye to Graham first. While she bid Graham farewell, Killian spoke with Milah and Liam, who both left when Graham did. Soon, only Neal and Hook were left.

Emma walked towards Neal first and pulled him into a hug. "I do still love you," she whispered, "I was never joking about that. There's always going to be a part of me that loves you--"

"But you've moved on. I understand, Emma. It's okay."

Emma sighed. "Some days, I'm not sure I've moved on at all. Others, I wonder why I ever thought I could live without Killian."

"And that's why you need to save him and not me. Because then you won't have to choose."

Emma broke apart from the hug and looked Neal in the eye. "I don't think I could ask for a better ex-boyfriend."

Neal smiled a bit. "And I don't think I could ask for a better ex-girlfriend." He started walking towards the portal when Emma called out to him.

"Wait!"

Neal stopped and looked back at her. Emma tentatively touched her lips to his. "Goodbye, Neal."

"Goodbye, Emma."

After Neal was through the portal, Emma turned to Killian. She was already on the edge of crying and saying goodbye to Killian now would not be good for her health, but it had to be done. Killian pulled her into a kiss. "Swan... after hiatus ends... just don't get hurt, please."

"I'll do my best. I love you, Killian."

"I love you too."

The pirate pressed a final kiss on Emma's lips before stepping through the portal as well. Regina then sealed it off before rushing over to Emma, who was nearly sobbing. She pulled the blonde into a hug. "I'm sorry."

"You did it, why can't I do it?" Emma muttered.

"Did what?"

"Went without your true love. You said goodbye to him for what you thought was forever and then you moved on without him for nine weeks! I wish I was as strong as you are."

Regina let out a bitter laugh. "You think I'm strong? I'm not strong, Emma, I'm a good liar. I cried myself to sleep most of those nights but during the day, I never let anyone see how broken I was. You are far more strong than I am, Emma."

"I don't know..."

Regina let go of her friend. "Let's get you back home, okay?"

"O-Okay. C-Can you walk w-with me?"

"Of course."

Regina glanced back at Robin. "I'll meet you at home in a little while."

Robin nodded. "I'll see you then."

On the walk to Emma's house, the savior spotted something on the ground. She strayed from the sidewalk and picked it up out of the grass.

"What is it?" Regina asked.

Emma handed the disc-like structure to her. "It looks like a confession dial from Doctor Who."

"Well who's is it? Who's going to die tomorrow?"

"Well there are several of us going to the Underworld," Emma mused, "but I don't know why they wouldn't just tell us their confession. Unless it belongs to someone who left today..."

Regina shook her head. "No. It would be opened or something if it belonged to someone who died today because they're dead now. And it doesn't follow the rules of a normal confession dial. In Doctor Who, only Missy could touch it. But both you and I have touched it."

"In that case, maybe it's Cora's," Emma muttered sarcastically.

Regina rolled her eyes. "I highly doubt that. It can't be anything too serious, unless there's going to be a death in the premiere tomorrow. But people don't tend to die in premieres..."

"Maybe we should just wait?" Emma suggested. "We could ask about it on Instagram tomorrow?"

"Sounds like a plan to me." Regina slid the confession dial into her pocket and she and Emma continued the walk to Emma's house.
