Chapter Fourteen
A/N: Y'all, I was walking out of the woods (in the dark), and I heard scratching noises above me. And I thought, 'Shit, Bigfoot is going to kill me.' I slowly shine my flashlight above me, and I saw........
Two baby raccoons!!!!!! Of course, I know better not to mess with the babies, otherwise the mother will literally tear you apart.
But holy shit, they scared me 😂.
Also, the time in which this chapter is set is going to be a bit wonky 😂
Late February - Late June, 1777, Albany, New York.
Y/N's POV
The guys left about a month ago. It was quiet without them here, but they promised to write us.
They never did.
I would wait in the parlor, my eyes scanning the road as I looked for the mail boy.
Whenever he did come, he wouldn't have anything for me or the girls.

John's POV
The battle was rough, but we somehow made it through.
I was currently pacing near the medical tent. Lafayette has been injured, and we hadn't heard about him since the Battle of Brandywine ended.
My thoughts were racing through my mind as I kept pacing. Before I could get sucked into my thoughts, a Doctor walked out of the tent. I quickly walked up to him, "Is Lafayette alright??" I asked.
He nodded, "Yes. Thankfully the bullet only hit his calf and not anywhere above his knee." He told me.
"Can I see him?" I asked, feeling relieved.
The doctor nodded once more, "Of course, just try not to overwhelm the Marquis." He said.
I made my way into the medic tent. There were a lot of soldiers in this tent, but I had my mind set on finding a certain Frenchman.
It didn't take long for me to find him. He was laying on a cot, his leg bandaged. I looked at his face, and I laughed a bit. His expression was more annoyed than in pain.
He looked at me and gave me a glare, "You think this," he said, gesturing at his leg, "is funny?" He asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
I shook my head, "No, but your facial expressions are priceless."
Laf rolled his eyes before speaking again, "Are the others alright?" He asked.
I nodded, "Yeah. Right now they are helping Washington with the prisoners."
Laf didn't say anything for a bit, so I stood awkwardly not far from him.
He then spoke, "What do you think Y/N and the Schuylers will think about this?" He asked me.
My eyes went wide and I raced out of the medical tent and towards my own.
'How could I have forgotten???' I scolded myself.
Late September, 1777, Albany, New York.
Y/N's POV
I was sitting on the gazebo, reading a book when Eliza walked up.
I wore the silk gloves she had bought me, and my hat. I also wore a light lavender dress with matching slippers. So, you could say I was comfortable.
"Y/N? There is a letter for you from Pennsylvania." Eliza said, handing me the letter.
I froze. I heard her say something similar when I had that flashback last December. I quickly grabbed it out of her hands and ripped off the wax seal.
'Please don't be dead, please don't be dead.' I thought frantically. I opened the letter and began to read.
My dearest Y/N,
I am terribly sorry for not writing you sooner. Everything with the war has not allowed me to write.
We are all doing alright. We recently won the Battle of Brandywine, and we are currently stationed here until the General tells us to leave.
Lafayette was hurt during the battle, but he will make a full recovery. When I first saw him in the medical tent, he seemed more annoyed than in pain.
Anyway, I will try to write as soon as I can. I'm not sure where this war will lead us, but I have a strong feeling that I will see you in the near future.
Sincerely yours,
John Laurens
I let out a happy sigh. Eliza must have been reading the letter from behind me, because she let out a sigh of relief. "Thank god." She breathed.
"No kidding." I laughed, folding the letter back up. "At least Laf is going to be okay. I wonder how he managed to get shot." I said, mostly to myself.
"I mean, he was on the battlefield." Eliza pointed out.
"Well no duh. I mean, I what exactly was he doing? Was he leading a battalion, saving someone, you know?" I inquired, looking at Eliza.
She shrugged, "Who knows. The important thing is that they are all safe."
I nodded.
'They are all safe.' I thought.
'But for how long?'

John's POV
It was hot and humid out. I looked up at the sky, placing my hand above my eyes as I tried to block out the sun.
The heat was sweltering as we made our way towards the ridge. Alex, Laf, and I were riding horses. Herc was sent back to New York so he could spy on the British.
Washington was ahead of us, going over plans once more with Charles Lee. I couldn't hear what they were talking about, but the look on Lee's face told me that he disagreed with Washington's plan.
"What do you think Washington said this time?" I heard Alex mutter.
I chuckled, "Well, it must be a good plan of attack, because Lee looks pretty scared and mad."
"Lez just hope Lee doesn't mess up again. Maybe zen we will 'ave another victory." Laf stated with a flick of his reins.
We moved our horses up towards the General and Lee.
~Timeskip~ (brought to you b- MOM!!!!! PHINEAS AND FERB ARE MAKING A TIMESKIP STATEMENT!!!!)
The battle was brutal, and it didn't help that some of our soldiers died from the heat.
I had my horse shot out from under me, but I had to quickly make up the ground I had lost. Washington and Lee weren't that far from me, so I decided to quickly go up to them and see how much we are loosing.
"We need to retreat! There is no way we can beat this many soldiers, especially in this heat!" I heard Lee exclaim as I walked up.
"What we need, is to keep fighting. Right now we are holding the ground, and if we keep doing so, we will be able to push them back." Washington countered, his face growing dark in rage.
"I agree with Washington. We can push the British back if we keep a hold of the field." I piped up, walking up to the two generals.
Lee looked at me before giving me a glare. He then turned back to Washington, "This is going to be a suicide mission. Half of our soldiers are already dead from the heat." Lee fumed.
"Fine, if you don't like this idea, I'll have Lafayette take the lead. He, unlike you, knows how important it will be if we were to win this battle." Washington said firmly, his eyes glaring down at Lee before turning away.
I made my way around Lee and began to follow the General, but Lee made a comment that made my skin crawl.
"What was that?" I turned, giving him a glare.
"Nothing....." Lee mumbled before turning the opposite way and walking away.
I watched him walk away, 'If he makes another comment like that in front of anyone, he'll be a dead man walking.' I thought before turning again and following George.
Late December, 1778, Albany, New York
Y/N's POV
A Winter's Ball.
I mean, I'm not complaining. The Schuyler's know how to throw a ball.
It's just that there are always so many people there.
I'm surprised I didn't attack anyone last year or the year before. But then again, my friends were here the first year.
I was currently sitting at a table, gazing off into the corner of the room. Of course, my mind was drifting off towards the war. John has written to me recently, saying that everything is fine and that the Schuylers and I shouldn't worry about them.
Excuse me, but how can we not worry when you guys are literally on Death's doorstep?
He also told us that they would be heading towards Savannah, in attempts to take it back from the British. He then, once again, told us not to worry.
But then again, how can we not?
I must have been staring at the corner pretty hard, because someone waved a hand in front of my face. I blinked rapidly before turning towards the person who waved their hand in front of me.
It was a guy, maybe about the same age as my physical age, so around 19 or 20. He had ginger hair, which was tied back in a ribbon. His eyes were a kind shade of blue, and he had a few freckles dotting his face. The small amount of freckles on his face couldn't compare to John's though.
"Hello, Miss, I'm so sorry to bother you, but you seem rather.....lonely? I was wondering if I could possibly join you?" He asked with a friendly smile. He had a slight Scottish accent, but not as noticeable as the bartender at the one bar I stayed at.
I nodded, a smile creeping on my face, "Of course! I was just thinking, that's all. My name is Y/N L/N. And you?" I asked as he sat down next to me.
"Ashton Chambers, Miss. May I add that your name is very pretty?" He inquired with a grin.
I smiled, "Thank you, sir."
We talked for a while that night. I guess you could say that we hit it off. Ashton was really funny. He told me a story about when he was younger, he climbed up an apple tree just so he could impress his friends. However, he was halfway to the top when he fell. He sprained his ankle, and tried to hide it from his mother. But, she found out anyways when Ashton's older sister pointed it out.
"How much trouble did you get into?" I asked, giggling throughout the sentence.
He smiled, a bit embarrassed, "Well, enough trouble to milk our cow for three months."
We proceeded to talk. He used to live in Scotland, but then his family moved to the Colonies when he turned five.
Soon, the guests began to leave, signaling the end of another ball. I stood up, Ashton following suit.
"Thank you, Mr. Chambers, for spending most of the night with me. I enjoyed our conversations." I smiled, pushing in the chair I was sitting in before.
"No, thank you, Ms. L/N. And please, call me Ashton. I enjoyed tonight as well." He then gently took my hand and kissed my knuckle, "May I be seeing you around anytime soon?" He questioned.
"Possibly, only if you call me Y/N, as it's only fair." I said with a giggle.
He smiled, "As you wish, Y/N."

Okay, before y'all go crazy, this book is (I repeat, IS) a Reader x John Laurens book, but I wanted to add another guy in here so he can get close to Y/N and maybe make John jealous (because why not)
Also........you guys know how John wasn't at Alex and Eliza's wedding (historically) because he was captured? Well, I might have him get captured (but it won't be around the time Alex and Eliza get married. )
Anywho, I think that's all!!!
