Chapter one
"Oli! Oli wake up!" Whisper yelled a small girl standing over Oliver's bed. "It's Sunday, Oliver you have to wake up!"
Oliver turned over to his side and groaned. He was definitely not a morning person. He opened his eyes to the bright blinding light of the sun. Then, he turned over to face the girl standing over his bed.
She was an older girl who looked about the age of Ten. Ten was an old age for Oliver, considering that he was only seven. The girl had long brown hair that went to her chest. Her eyes were a sparkling blue that reminded him of the sky.
"Come on everyone is waiting" She said softly again.
"Yeah...just give me a minute" he mumbled, trying to not fall back asleep again. He sat up and rubbed his tired eyes with his fists to wake himself up. "I'll be dressed in a bit"
"Okay!" she said "i'll be waiting for you with the others" she gave him a quick, warm smile then turned and headed off to where she would meet him.
Oliver stretched out his limbs and thought to himself for a little bit. At least its sunday... he thought At least its sunday... He fully got out of bed and went to go change from his pajamas to his normal clothes. As fast as he could, he did some other quick things and went to where everyone was waiting for him.
"Mornin' Oliver" greeted one of his older friends with a thick Irish accent.
"Morning Liam" He replied. About 15 other voiced had said good morning to him. One of which he was most familiar with.
"Hi Natalee" he said as he sat down next to the girl that had woken him up. They smiled at each other.
"So can you really do it?" asked a boy who looked younger than him. "The magic..?" he whispered so no one could hear.
Oliver could feel all the eyes of the other children staring at him, eager to see once again what he could do. Oliver and the others quickly looked around the area to make sure no one else would see. After the cost was clear, Oliver held out his hand.
His palm opened up to an enormous eruption of colors. They just barely floated above his hand. The light that came with the colors lit up the entire area. There were shades of blue, green, purple, red, yellow, and orange. There were many of "oos" and "aahs"
The colors started to swirl. One after another new colors were made from the others. The shape also started to change and well. First it looked like a very tiny, green cat. Then, it resembled a red bird. Lastly, it formed into a purple butterfly and took off from his hand. Everyones heads and eyes followed it around the room as it went from one wall to another, one head to another. It finally came back to oliver and disappeared before anyone could blink.
They all applauded him and cheered. Oliver felt great about this power. They asked for him to do it again and of course, he did. Not just once, but many times. He did a lot of different tricks until they were soon to be interrupted. Oliver quickly shut his hand and with that, all of the magic disappeared.
The door swung open to a face that would be forbidden to there show. All the kids attention turned to the woman at the door. She was a lot older than all of them and had long, blond curly hair.
"Hello, Mrs Peters" They all greeted in unison.
"And what is going on here?" she snapped. "i heard some very loud noises that disturbed our meeting."
"We were just telling some funny stories, mom" Natalee replied quickly, but calmly.
"yeah" said an older boy that oliver did not know the name of. "They were just really funny, you see."
"well then...you better make sure those mouth holes of yours keeps quiet." She sassed as she quickly turned around and marched out of the room. The door slammed shut.
Everyone sighed at the same time. Oliver turned to the boy and Natalee who had backed them up and thanked them.
"No problem" he smiled back "I'm Sam by the way"
"It's nice to meet you, Sam" Oliver said in reply.
More people also started sharing their names with him. He knew they had his back as well. He was glad to have this many friends. The only thing he hoped for, was that none of them would get caught or backstab him. He hated the thought I getting backstabbed.
Everyone decided that they should probably stop with the magic tricks. They knew they would get loud and cause a ruckus and they didn't want to risk the chance of getting caught.
So the group of now officially friends got up and disbanded. They made sure the coast was clear for any of the unwanted kids. Once it was, they all headed off quickly to do something else with their close friends. It wasn't a surprise that Natalee was the one to hang out with him.
"Hello Oliver" she said with her soft and gentle voice. "That was a great show."
"Thank you." He smiled at her. She smiled back.
Oliver's seven year old heart skipped a beat. He loved Natalee. He didn't want anyone to get in between of them.
But that day, something did get in between them. The door burst open again. It wasn't any kid or mrs Peters. It was a different teacher. She had a clipboard and looked down at it.
"Miss Natalee Williams?" She asked.
Natalee quickly stood up. "Yes that's me. I'm right here" she said in reply nicely.
"I need to to be up on at 8:00 on Wednesday. A family will be here to adopt you" she said.
"A...a family...?" She said quietly. Only Oliver heard what she said.
"Goodbye" she said and quickly left, shutting the door behind her.
"Oliver I'm getting adopted!" She said excitedly. "Oh! I hope I get a little sister! Or maybe an older one.."
Oliver just stared at her. He didn't know how to feel. He wanted to feel happy for her. Adoption was a big deal. But he also didn't want her to leave.
"Oliver? Hello?" She asked him.
"Huh? Oh yes sorry. I'm happy for you" he gave her a fake smile. He really wasn't.
The rest of that day Natalee went around telling all her friends she was getting adopted. She was so happy. Her other friends were very happy too. But Oliver questioned himself; why wasn't he happy? Was there something wrong with him? No there couldn't be.
He watched her and saw how excited and happy she was. He had never seen her like this before. He wish he could be as happy as her. Oliver wanted to ask the adopters if they would take him too. Then they would be together. He knew they wouldn't let him though.
Oliver continued to smile and pretend to be happy. He was good at pretending. He did this for the rest of the day while still pondering in his thoughts.
When that day came to an end, he felt a little bit better after a lot of people have him compliments about his show and said goodnight to him. But the rest of him however, was still upset. After this night, there would be only three more days left with Natalee. He had to do something to make then not adopt her. He couldn't lose her. Not now.
He didn't sleep that night. He stayed awake to ponder once more. He came up with many ideas, but that would just make a fool of himself. The other ones contained magic and he knew he couldn't do that to Natalee. As he was a seven year old, he had many thoughts. He finally set his mind on one. He wouldn't tell her tomorrow. He had to wait and prepare. Something could go wrong and end up horrible he thought. I'll just have to wait.
