Enter Night

Disclaimer: I do not own Metallica's song "Enter Sandman", which is featured above in a video I don't own either. The only thing I own is the plot of this little story below. Enjoy!

"And never mind that noise you heard / it's just the beasts under your bed / in your closet / in your head!" - Enter Sandman, Metallica

Why won't they stop?!

Why does sweet silence elude me?

Why won't the whispers stop?!

They communicate in quiet, whispery tones, and are always followed by a small buzzing, similar to a house fly's. If I do catch a word or two, it's always been something relating to death or someone coming.

They started two years ago, following a rather twisted nightmare I had.

It was just as simple as when I awoke, they started their morbid task, plaguing my sleep and my sanity. Rather strangely though, they always stop at night as I prepare for sleep.

As if they would care. Humph.

But one day, it stopped. I thought nothing of it, for I was preparing for sleep. But the next day remained silent. And the day after. And the day after that. And so on.

But soon, the silence confused me.

Weren't they always whispering about someone coming? Death?

I soon grew paranoid and locked myself in my house.

I never had human contact after that; I would always use the Internet --for which I'm thankful, existed.

I then started to wait for the whispers.

For anything, really.

But nothing came; nothing returned.

Then, the noises.

First, they were the pitter-patter of feet.

Then, laughter.

Teasing laughter rang from every corner, shadow, and crevice.

Soon, my sanity faded.

I'm still waiting.

They never answered.

Tick tock goes the clock, your time's almost up,

Knock at the door, but in through the floor,

Three little flies, resembling time, enter forevermore,

Carry me home, but still I hear the phone,

My time's already gone but I'm in need of more.
