Part 19
Alec wonder what her mother had said to Magnus after they all getting inside the van. He couldn't hear what they are saying to each other but all he could see is how upset Magnus was. His eyes are pleading and his mouth trembled into words he can't coherent. Tears rolling on his cheek when he spoke to his mother.
As soon as they got into the hotel, they all waited for the door to be open by his father. As soon as he did, they all went separate ways. Jace and Isabelle went into their room with Max followed behind. Robert headed to his leaving Alec standing in the middle of the living hall with his mother. She's on her phone checking on something when she noticed how Alec stood awkwardly in silence.
"Alec is everything okay?" She asked putting her phone back into her bag. "Something good?" He asked if ever she checked her phone, they might have heard anything from the transplant team. She sighed shaking her head before she walks to the table and grabbed a bottle of water.
"Just work stuffs, no news yet." She said before gulping the water down. "What did you say to Magnus earlier?" Alec asked abruptly making Maryse slightly choked on her water. She coughs and cleared her throat before she wipes the excessive drops on her chin. "N-Nothing." She said as she placed the bottle back on the table top and tried to hides away from Alec.
"Mum!" Alec called and she stopped on her tracks letting her back facing her son. Alec stood in silenced waiting for her to tell the truth. His voice raised a little making the rest of his family starts to come out from their room to check on what is all about.
Robert came out the same time as all of them did and witnessed Alec and his mother banter in the middle of the living room.
"What is this all about?" Robert asked and Maryse shakes her head, "Nothing. Let's go to bed, its late." She said and Alec scoffed behind her. "That's what she said earlier. Nothing. Mum I saw what happened, tell me the truth." Alec begs and Maryse exhaled a long breath. She turned and face Alec before she continues.
"I can't let him hurt you anymore. The only thing he did since the day you both meet is messing with your feelings. It was a mistake for me to accept his offer and watching him hurting you over and over again." Maryse started and gasped were heard from Isabelle and Alec himself.
"How could you. There are nothing in my life that I don't let you interfere with but whatever happens with Magnus and I, is none of your business." Alec snapped and Robert could sense how this conversation is going so he went to his wife side to stop it.
"Enough. Everyone is tired, let's just go to bed." He asked softly, his palm squeezed Maryse shoulder to pull her away but she won't budge. "I only did what is best for you Alec." She never expected Alec would be upset about it but again, she didn't know much.
"You don't know what's best for me. Do not come in between Magnus and I again." Alec said a little harsh, he could see how his mother changed her expression. "I'm the one who has been taking care of you, worrying about you, thinking that every minute I could lose you. I-AM your mother Alexander! I can choose what I want for the best interest of my family." She raised her voice in anger and Alec scoffed in disbelief.
"You know nothing of us! Don't try to change the subject! What you said exactly to Magnus?!" He barged forward and Jace stepped in between them and held him back. "Alec enough." Alec stares at his bother's face and noticed Isabelle stood on the side with Max in her embrace.
His gaze went back to his mother and saw she was coaxed by his father, "Magnus didn't do anything wrong. I cut myself on a piece of broken glass and he helped treating my wound. Why do you think he hurt me?" Alec asked trying to be as calm as he could. Maryse sighed rubbing her lips together.
"You were upset when you came out from the lower deck and I could see you cried. He is the only explanation I could have. How you going to tell me that he has nothing to do with it?" Maryse questioned and raised her hand on her hips. Alec pinched his nose bridge in disbelief disregards whatever his mother said is actually truth.
"Still doesn't gave you the chances to throw him away from our lives. He was already more upset than I was today with his father and thanks to you he is beyond dismayed. All thanks to you for trying to fix other people's lives!"
Alec said pushing Jace out of his way and headed for the door. "Where the hell are you going Alexander?" Robert called and he turned abruptly. "Screw this, screw all of these!" He said and went out with the door slammed into a loud noise.
They both stood in disbelief and the aching grew in between them, "Mum. I've never seen Alec so upset like that before." Isabelle stated as soon as Alec left the room, Max is still besides her and she could see tears streaming in his eyes. "Let him cool down for a moment, he'll be back soon after he is calm." Robert tries to soothe the situation and somehow she couldn't put her mind down.
"Something is telling me it's going to be different." Maryse claimed and Robert sighed. "It's just a feeling sweetheart. We all had the feeling." Maryse nodded softly before she was again pulled to the bedroom by her husband. She took one last glanced over the door praying that it would open and revealed his upset Alec came back into the room. She would take upset Alec anytime in her lives rather than having him leave like earlier. It's too heartbreaking for her and her family too.
Magnus
Ever since Magnus invited the Lightwood to his boat he was so excited he get to annoys Alec more later in the evening. That is what he thought. But when he got a call from his father that kept bragging about how great and amazing New York is, he got irritated. He thought his father is going to change his mind and decided to come to Hawaii although it's already the end of the trip for them.
He got really upset when his father won't even bother to know details of his trip and kept telling Magnus his and what he had planned for his wedding. He even throw the phone to the wall and let it smashed into pieces and Magnus felt good about it.
When he was on the boat he couldn't get his mind off of his father. It took tolls on his action when he gulped down almost two bottle of wine and his drunk state keep screwing up things again. When he kissed Alec, he felt it was real for once, none like any of his other fling before and he wished he wasn't being so rude about it after.
When Maryse told him to stay away from Alec he got more upset and felt like his whole world is nothing but lies and disappointment. Started with his own mother, then his father and now the only constant things he found in his life it got taken away too.
So here he is, drunk and he couldn't even feel his face after six glasses of shots down his throat. He sat on the bar stool alone with the crowd cheered over some drunk girl spilling drinks on her chest, deliberately.
When he heard a chime coming from the door, he couldn't care less. People are getting in and out of this bar anyway but somehow his heart tells him to look so he did and the last thing he'd ever expect to see was Alec standing by the door, his eyes lingered around the bar looking for someone. Someone he hoped to be him.
Alec
His mother was acting beyond her limits now. Alec was so upset when he heard she told Magnus to keep his distance away from him. He didn't quite figure out yet why but somehow it was upsetting for him not being able to see Magnus again.
The thing might be acceptable if he didn't knew Magnus better but after seeing him breakdown today, he was more sorry for him than upset. When Magnus kissed him earlier, he never felt himself like that before. He never felt the strange feeling of having your heart racing high and slow at the same time. The pain grew when he thought about it. It's not the kiss was anything disappointing, it was beyond amazing. But the fact that he was drunk when he did it, Alec felt like it was all but a play.
When he rushed out from the hotel room, he didn't know where else to go but he knew he had to get out from there. He marched down the hallway and headed to the elevator, he pressed down the button and wait. He waited enough and decided he want to take the stairs instead. But before he could, the door opened and he wanted to rush in only to be bumped by Charles himself.
"Woah, easy there tiger." He said holding Alec's body in place. Alec scratched his head in embarrassment and apologized. He stepped out so Charles could come out from the elevator and when he noticed he came out alone, Alec got worried.
"Where's Magnus?" He asked and he could see Charles' face changed suddenly. "He uhm- he is out, doing his own things." He said and Alec's eyebrow crooked in curiosity. "Out where? Is he okay?" He asked sincerely and Charles smiled at his concerned.
"He was pretty upset so he wanted to have a drink at the bar by the end of the street, the uhm- The Nalu Kai?" He stated and Alec nodded, "O-Okay." He said and went inside the elevator in a rush. Charles smiles knowing Alec would find Magnus and they could fix things between them so he let him be. Magnus deserves some kindness left in this world and Alec could provide it to him.
Alec walked inside the bar and the music grew louder, the native song were sung by the local girl singing in her simple floral dress. Alec's eyes looked around for the boy in a spike raven hair and their eyes met eventually.
Magnus was leaning against the bar top sitting on the high chair looking straight at him. His eyes are blood shot and his mouth gaped apart staring at Alec. But then he turned his gaze back on the drinks in front of him and he gulped the beer bottle chugging it down to half.
Alec took the liberty to walk closer and sat himself down next to him, "The seats taken." He said gulping another of that drink in his hand. "By who?" He asked but he sat anyway. "By the committee of leave me the fuck alone!" He stared at his side burning holes at Alec's face.
Alec trembles at his intense gaze and decide to remove his gaze towards the bartender walking around handing out drinks to the customers. Then he came by Alec to ask about his choice of drinks. "What are you having?" He asked. The guy is a bit overweight and he has his full arms tattooed with his natives tribe marks.
"Uhm, no thanks." He declined and the bartender raised his eyebrow at him. Magnus laughed so hard next to him as he slammed the beer bottle down hard. "What kind of a fucking idiot who comes at bar and didn't order any drink?" He asked and tapped the glass shot for another. The bartender seems to have a little patient in him but he did it anyway.
He slides the small glass that contain a clear liquid and Magnus chugged it down in a breath. He winced at the burning feeling as he swallowed the devils drink down his stomach.
He taps the glass on the wooden table top signing for another one to the bartender. Alec took the empty glass and put it down next to him with a sighed. "You had enough Magnus." He said and Magnus scoffed.
"You and your mother are the same person. Keep stopping other people's fun like it is a crime. Live a little Alexander." He said and the guy put the glass in front of him, he raised the glass to Alec's face and before he could gulped it down, Alec snatched the glass from his grip and drank it all in one breath.
He winced at the burning taste on his tongue and his throat, he coughed a little trying to remove the after taste but it stills there. "God, that's awful." He said and tapped his chest to ease the burning. "Have another." He placed another glass to his face and Alec took it with a breath.
Second glass did more than enough to Alec since he hasn't had any alcohol in his system for quite some time. Two shot glass is enough to make him drunk.
"I'm sorry about my mother. She didn't know any better." He blurted out and Magnus chuckled. "Well, that is what parents do. They ruined their kids live cause they can." He said gulping another glass.
"That's not true!" Alec said a little higher but then he giggled covering his mouth with his palm. "It's ironic that you are here Alexander, after your mother told me to stay away from you and yet, her precious son is here begging for more." Alec couldn't say anything more because it's the truth. Doesn't matter if his mother told otherwise, he won't agrees to it unless it's beneficial for him.
"You know you shouldn't let other people control your own life Magnus. They don't owe you anything. It's your life, stop living like a cage animals." Alec said snatching the glass from Magnus hand again. He was tempted to scream at him for doing that but drunk Alec is fun Alec and he was enjoying it.
"I'll do it if you tell me why your family protect you like you're some kind of a King's jewel." He raised his eyebrow at him and he looked down on his empty glass, twirling it around on the table. "Just strict I guess." Alec shrugged before his gaze met Magnus.
He could see Magnus eyes are lazy but his gaze is focus on Alec. The deeper Alec's gaze on him, the closer their face gets. By then their face is only an inch away and Alec could smell the alcohol on Magnus breath. He was panting, both of them were.
"I couldn't get that kiss out of my mind Alexander." Magnus whispered and Alec licked his lips wetting it with the taste of the burning vodka earlier. He swallowed dryly and felt like the room has increased in temperature. He sure if the bar has better lighting, they could see how flushed he is right now.
"Me either." He said and his eyes met with Magnus plump lips. A smirk form on Magnus face but then his gaze went back towards the bartender. He hailed for him to come and gave him the rest of the bottle but the bartender refuses.
He took out his wallet and grabbed his credit card at his face. "I'll pay and leave this place if you gave me the whole bottle." He said flicking the card on the guy's face. Alec could see how annoyed he is at Magnus gestured but he took it anyway remind that they are both leaving after this.
It took them a while to keep their walking straight and with the drinking, he and Alec was practically walking like they attached on the hips together. They both were giggling and laughing gulping down to the last drop of the clear substances Magnus purchased earlier.
"Come on." Magnus pulled Alec by his shirt and dragged him into darkness and Alec felt like pulling him back. "No, it's too dark." He said and Magnus laughed at his fear of darkness. "Are you scared of dark Alexander? Don't you trust me?" He hold out his palm for Alec and Alec had difficulty to focus on Magnus face under the moonlight and his palm to him.
He took it eventually trusting the guy he had no idea about and followed him into darkness. They walked about fifteen minutes by the guide of the moonlight and Magnus wrong coordination making the trip longer.
Then Alec could see from far, a shine of moonlight on the water and the sound of waves crashing were heard. Magnus dragged him to the sand and felt his chest warmth by the view. It was a serendipity for Alec and Magnus.
"Woah." Alec said and Magnus nodded. "Uh huh." Then they heard voices on the deck, couple of people running and Magnus got an idea. "Come with me." He said and pulled Alec again by his hand and they both run on top of the deck. They reached till the end and there is a small stairs on the side going down into the water. Alec leaned and saw a small boat that paddles with couple of oar under it and Magnus already coming down and almost reached to the boat.
"Magnus." He called unsure of the boat belongs to whom and wonder if it's safe to ride it. "Come down." Magnus said as he already inside the boat, he hold out both of his arm for Alec but Alec shook his head.
"This is stupid idea, and not too mention it's stealing." Alec said crossing his arm on around his chest. Magnus raised both of his hand on his waist looking up to Alec. "How can you be so annoying even though when you're drunk? I thought you wanted to enjoy being a rebel for tonight. Come on! Just tonight, let go of everything and forgets whatever problem you had and do something out of your comfort zone."
Alec huffed in annoyance but somehow the words got into his head, just for tonight, he didn't have to worry about him being sick, ever since he meet up Magnus at the bar, he didn't think of himself being sick and dying, he's just Alec, enjoying his youth for once since the last couple of years.
So he nodded and climbed down the stairs to meet Magnus. He sat in the boat and let Magnus paddled the boat away from the deck. He didn't know whether it's the alcohol that drowning his judgement or the fact that Magnus is letting him having fun for once in his miserable sick life that made him want to take up the challenge.
Little by little, the deck appears smaller and further and Magnus didn't even bother to acknowledge it and Alec could feel his head lighter, he yawned and leaned backwards to lay down. Luckily for them both, the boat is a bit larger than usual one, so he could lay back and raised his long legs on the edge of the boat.
"Hey! I didn't bring you out here to sleep." Magnus scolded him and Alec had to laugh. "Whatever skippy, keep paddling, I'm just enjoying the view." He said as his eyes looked up to the starry night. He could see the lights blurred and it grew multiple in blink of an eye.
Alec felt his head lighter and his eyes heavier, slowly he was drifting to sleep.
When Magnus looked at Alec, he saw him already falling asleep and soft snores coming out from his gaped mouth. He smiled at it but he could feel his head swam in his tiredness, so he placed the oar inside the boat and adjusted himself. He lay down with his legs on the other side of the boat and slowly his eyes closed to sleep. The last thing he see was Alec sleeping in front of him and soon darkness invaded.
