The Resolution

SINS PAST pt. 6

"Hi, Mr. Spider-Man, I...um...I'm looking for my sister...she came through here a while ago-" Rachael says running down the hallway towards Peter.

"Yes...she said she'd be right back. And that you should wait right here." Peter says casually leaning again the wall outside the operating room.

"Good, So...I'll just... wait right here, then if you don't mind..." Rachael says as people walk past them in the hallway.

"No, no, it's fine miss." Peter says, with authority.

They waited a moment for the hallway to clear out. "I saw what happened on the news. Are you okay?" Rachael asks.

"Yeah...I'm okay. It's Sarah I'm worried about. They pulled her into surgery over two hours ago to work on the gunshot. Every time somebody's gone in or out of there, they've been running and that can't be good. I saved her at the bridge, Rachael. I saved her I just can't let her die now...I just- I can't...I'm sorry it's-" Peter sighs.

"It's okay, tiger. You're just tired. There's so much going on." Rachael says softly.

"Yeah, I know...I'm just really glad you're here...." Peter sighs as one of the doctors walks out. "Doctor Chapin, how's she doing?"

"Not good." The doctor sighs.

"But the nurses said you got the bullet, and the wound-" Peter says nervously.

"It didn't hit anything critical, and we've been able to repair most of it, that part seems to be healing almost unnaturally fast, but-"

"What's the problem then?" Peter asks worried.

"It's loss of blood, and there's plenty of it on hand, but every time we try a direct match her body rejects it. There's something odd about her blood. It's been altered in some way, some genetic marker that I've never seen before. We're doing the best we can with synthetic plasma, but it's a holding action at most. If we don't get somebody with the same genetic traits down here in the next hour...Does she have any next of kin?" The doctor asked.

"No...nobody that could get here inside an hour." Peter sighs, reaching behind his back for Rachael's hand, squeezing it softly when she came into contact.

"I love you..." Rachael says softly.

"Then I'm afraid there is nothing we can do except, well except use the synthetics for as long as possible, make her as comfortable as we can until- Until the end. I'm sorry. There's just nothing we can do." The doctor sighs starting to walk away.

"...No...no, it can't-wait Doc! Use my blood!" Peter offers.

"Are you a relative?" The doctor asks.

"No, but...my blood type is the same as hers." Peter says.

"How do you know that?" The doctor asks confused.

"Shit...how do I explain that even before I saw her DNA chart, I knew I had a 50/50 chance because...because I once asked Gwen what her blood type was, because, well that's one of those things you think about when you want to marry someone someday. And God she wanted kids so badly..." Peter thought.

"How I know is my business." Peter finally responds.

"Yes, But even if it's the same blood type, as I said her blood is unusual-"

"Yeah I know. But so is mine Doc, so's mine. And let's face it, what does she have to loose?" Peter sighs.

"You understand though, Spider-Man, that this is going to be a very heavy transfusion. It's not life-threatening, but you may black out from the abrupt blood loss, and you're going to have to stay under care for at least a day." The doctor asks.

"I understand Doc, I understand. Just do what ever you have to do to save her, but save her Doc. Save her." Peter replies, as they run him into the operations room prepping a table for him and hooking him up to a billion machines once he was laying down.

Rachael watched from the operating room window. "Go get him, tiger. Kick his ass. Kick it hard."

It only took a few minutes for Sarah's eyes to shoot open and her pulse to return to normal.

"We're getting a solid pulse, a heartbeat...We got her...my God...we got her..." a doctor calls out.

"You are right?" Rachael asks softly noticing Peter stirring lightly. "If you're awake say something because I can't see your eyes under there."

"...Hey." Peter says his voice course and dry.

"Hey." Rachael smiles down at him. "How are you feeling?"

"Like I've been hit be a truck, repeatedly." Peter groans.

"Doc said you can expect to feel pretty dizzy. Said you shouldn't stand up to fast for a while, no exertion-" Rachael instructs.

"So how, is she?" Peter asks.

"Stable, But we won't know more for at least a few hours." Rachael sighs.

"Something wrong?" Peter asks.

"Just keeping an eye out. One of the nurses tried to slip in here with a camera about an hour ago. She was was going right for the mask." Rachael explains.

"Where is she now?" Peter asks.

"In recovery. You know me loose shoes. Reckless. Clumsy. Oops." Rachael smiles at him.

"I love you." Peter chuckles.

"You better." Rachael giggles.

"So what prompted her to try it?" Peter asks sitting up slowly.

"The press is all over the place. The staff is keeping them out, but word's out they'd pay big money for a picture, especially if it's one of you,  unconscious, with your mask off." Rachael explains.

"How much." Peter asks.

"Five million." Rachael sighs.

"Looks like I️ picked the wrong time to give up photography. Anyone asking what you're involvement in all this is?" Peter asks.

"They think I'm a groupie. Apparently they get them anytime somebody in a costume gets wounded." Rachael says.

"Super-Heroes have groupies? Looks like I picked the wrong time to get marr-" Peter scoffs.

"Hey!" Rachael says hitting his chest lightly.

"Just kidding, I- wait a minute you said the press is down there?" Peter asks.

"Yeah..." Rachael nods.

"Has this gone out on TV yet?" Peter asks.

"I haven't checked but I think so, why?" Rachael asks, as what looks like a blue version of the Green Goblin breaks through the window to their floor, ripping Peter from the bed and flying off.

"Fuck! Why am I always in my civies when shit like this happens!" Rachael shouts frustrated, kicking the metal part of the bed. "Ow...ow.."

A cry for help came from down the hallway, Rachael bolted towards the noise. "Help someone help!"

"What happened!" Rachael asked running up to a nurse trying to get a unconscious security guard to come to.

"Someone knocked the guard out...took his gun...and, the girl, in surgery, the one Spider-Man was helping, she- she's gone." The nurse says.

"You've ruined everything!" Gabe yelled as he flew Peter across town using one of Norman's old gliders.

"Fast, incredibly fast...gonna be..sick...ugh, somehow he's been amped up...and I'm still as weak as a baby kitten...gotta get away from him or I'm dead...but this doesn't take to much energy..." Peter thinks flicking his wrist out towards one of the nearby buildings, landed a web on it easily. "...it's the holding on that's going to be a bitch..."

Peter was pulled towards the building much to his dismay landing on a roof slightly below it with a thud. His shoulder dislocated on impact.

"No!" Gabe shouts sounding crazed, as he started to shoot down at him. Peter was too weak to get away, trying to crawl but getting hit by a few. "Look at you...you're pathetic, almost not worth killing. Almost...but we always finish what we start...don't we Sarah?"

Peter looked back seeing Sarah had stepped into the roof behind him pointing a gun up at Gabe.

"S-Sarah?" Peter questions weakly.

"Poor Spider-Fool you never learn, do you? The truth is in the blood and nothing will ever change that. Finish him Sarah, and come with me, I have something amazing to show you." Gabe says cackling the way Norman always would.

"Gabriel...get out of here." Sarah demands releasing the safety on her gun. "He didn't do anything to us or to our mother. He saved my life, he's innocent."

"Little fool, no one is innocent. And if you've taken his side. Against your own flesh and blood...not even you...you'll have to die too..." Gabriel hisses launching two small explosives at her as she flips away from them still in her hospital gown, as she shot the propeller of his glider. The propeller broke and sent him and the device far off into the distance, before it blew up mid air.

Sarah sighed dropping her gun, putting her head in her hands.

"Sarah?" Peter asks shakily. "You did what you had to...I saw what he was, he was out of his mind, it wasn't even Gabriel anymore...he was going to kill you..." Peter sighs.

"I know but...I can't- I have to go away..." Sarah sighs turning back towards the stairs to get off the roof and down the building, out into the city.

"No...wait! Sarah...please...wait..." Peter says slowly starting to looks consciousness from his wounds. Memories of Gwen flashed through his mind in his loopy state of pain.

"I love you, Peter." Gwen's glee filled voice played through his head.

"I love you..." A his voice ran out from inside his mind as he felt Gwen's lips rest upon his.

"I'll always love you..." Peter said out loud, not even noticing Rachael had kneeled down on the roof next to him, barely noticing her cool touch pull his head into her lap gently.

"I know...I know...Now sleep..." Rachael says softly as he started to fade out of consciousness.
