Dinner, Darling?

(So this is pretty shitty, but oh well. It's part of the chapters I'm going to be writing to rewrite the Meant To Be Mine chapter so it can't be much worse than that...right?)

"That's it we're over, asshole!" Rachael shouts, at the taller boy. "I wanted to help you, to-to fix you, to teach you right from wrong! But I can't keep being apart of your killing sprees. You act like you're so much better than all of the people you've justified killing, but you're not. You're a bad person, Harry. And this is it. Don't talk to me ever again, don't come near me, don't even look at me. I don't want anything to do with ever again!"

"No! You're the only thing that matters to me, Rachael! I thought you knew that. I thought you were different. That you understood me! I'm doing this for you! And now that we've started you can not leave me until we're finished. I can't finish this alone. I can't fix the world if you're always working against me. You told me you trusted me to fix thing, because you loved me. Don't you love me anymore? I thought you understood me. That you loved me. You said that my crazy complimented your crazy? Don't you believe that anymore?" Harry demands, grabbing her by the wrist so she can't escape.

"Well, I guess we were both wrong then." Rachael responds shakily, as she resists the urge to cry. She ripped her hand from his grasp and sprinted for the door.

Rachael walked up the stairs of the compound with the intention of heading to her bedroom, when she heard laughing coming from the dinning room. She curiously peaked her head in to find Harry sitting down and having dinner with her family. The seat beside him was empty like they were waiting for her. She set her bag down outside the doorway and walked in cautiously.

"Hey, there she is." Tony laughs pointing at her. Harry turned his head smirking at her, something was off about him. He wasn't wearing his usual grey t-shirt layered with a green flannel and his trench coat, but instead a black sweater vest paired with a green tie. He didn't look as edge and attractive as he normally was, but instead looked put together and scholarly. She took the scene in carefully as her human red flag chatted with her family.

"Where have you been hiding this keeper?" Pepper smiles, starting to put some food on the plate they had waiting for her. "Harry, here was just telling us about your Orpheus and Eurydice love story."

"Now, I'm not really one for RomComs, but that is one romantic story." Rhodey chuckles.

Harry stood up and pulled her chair out for her. "Come join us, darling."

Rachael reluctantly sat down and he pushed her chair in towards the table, before returning to his own seat. He casually cut up more of the steak he'd been picking at on his plate, while Rachael poked at her vegetarian substitute. She really wasn't feeling very hungry under her current circumstance.

"So Harry, you're a year older than Rachael, right?" Tony asks.

"Yes, one year and two months actually." Harry smiles, acting like the polar opposite of his regular self.

"So, then you're graduating this year." Pepper interjects. "Any plan on what you're going to college for yet?"

"I'm planning on studying psychiatry. You see my father has always been a very troubled man and no one seems to be able to help him. I want to learn everything there is about mental health so that I can help and prevent future people like him. I believe someone once said that 'If something has broken more than once there is no hope to fix it, but with the knowledge you gain from it you can prevent future damages from happening to others.' I can't seem to recall who said it, but I plan to live by that." Harry explains, sweetly.

"Aww..." Rachael expresses with fake concern you could spot from a mile away.

"Awe, isn't that just precious..." Pepper says softly, offering him some more mashed potatoes. He scooped some onto his plate and thanked her.

"If you don't mind me asking. What happened to make your kook of a father go off the rails?" Tony asks, getting elbowed by Pepper harshly.

"Anthony! Norman just murdered their friend. You can't just bring up topics like that..." Pepper whispers angrily.

"Oh no, it's fine. I personally don't think he's been stable since my mother's departure, when I was three. I really don't think he ever moved on from her death. Over the past two years he was having all kinds of scientific break throughs in the medical field involving the capabilities of spiders. One day his funding dried up and in a rage he experimented with one of his 'cures' on himself, but it seemed to do the opposite of cure him." Harry sighs drastically.

"Well...we're sorry to hear that, Harry..." Rhodey responds solemnly.

"But it's all okay now. At least I am now. Though I don't think I would have made it with out, Rachael, here." Harry smiles, gripping her hand lightly on top of the table. She tensed, but smiled sarcastically playing along, as an attempt to not make a scene and put her family in danger.

"I guess you can attest that there is always some light even on the rainiest days." Tony says.

"Undoubtedly. And I sure have found my light. My radiant, perfect, light." Harry smiles at Rachael lovingly. "I really don't know what I would have done without her."

"Oh, isn't that the sweetest thing." Pepper smiles, helping baby Maria finish up her dinner.

"Well, it looks like we're all done. How does dessert sound? Harry, you up for some of Pepper's 'famous' chocolate mousse?" Rhodey asks, standing up and collecting everyone's plates. They all ignored the fact that Rachael hadn't touched her food.

"Sounds wonderful." Harry smiles standing up. "Oh no, sit down Colonel Rhodes. I'll get it."

"Nonsense. You're our guest we'll get it." Rhodey responds.

"No, I insist." Harry smiles taking the plates from him.

"I'll help." Rachael says, getting up as well.

"No, stay. Relax. I'm sure you've had a long day." Harry says a bit more harshly.

"Well, I should come anyway since you don't know your way around our kitchen." Rachael says, with venom hidden in her voice.

"I'm sure I can figure it out. Sit down, darling." Harry says, his eyes darkening as they glared at each other.

"I insist." Rachael says, not backing down. It took a moment, but Harry eventually gave in.

"Well aren't you two just a match made in heaven." Pepper smiles watching them. "They will make the most beautiful children, don't you think so Tone?"

They got everyone's plates and walked into the attached kitchen. He set the plates in the sink and immediately turned to her. "You look upset is something wrong, darling? You're family is loving me, so you can't be worried about that."

"Stop playing dumb you know why..." Rachael mumbles. "I thought I made it clear when I said I wanted you to stay the hell away from me."

"Oh come on, you know I can't resist you for long. You're my panacea." Harry says gripping her jaw lightly, brushing her lips with his thumb, lightly. She looked away from his gaze defiantly. "All I want is for you to let me be yours."

"You could have been mine, but you resorted to killing people. To do what? Make the world a better place? You're bullshitting yourself if you think you're solving my problems by making more for other people." Rachael says inhaling deeply, his earthy, cologne hitting her nose like an intoxicating spell. It was almost strong enough to make her give in to him. Almost.

"No, you see. Your problems never would have gone away or gotten solved if it wasn't for me getting rid of the obstacles at their sources." Harry says, defensively. "I was doing you a favor, why can't you just see that?"

"Because I'm not a psychopath. I'm a decent human being, who believes that no one in this world deserves to die. Especially not by our hands. Killing someone is not yours or anyone's decision to make, Harry." Rachael whispers, pushing his hand away from her. "And then you had to go and involve me family..."

"You know...I really thought you were different. I thought that you saw things the way I did. That you were going to be the one person who understood me. Who completed me." Harry scoffs, trying to manipulate her.

"This little speech isn't going to work again, Harry." Rachael says, standing her ground. "Not this time."

"We'll see. For now let's just get this mousse out there. You're parents are probably wonder what the procrastination is anyway." Harry says looking around the kitchen. Rachael sighed and pulled the dessert out of the fridge. He took it from her and she grabbed silverware before they walked back out into chaos.

"There are our little love birds. We were wonder where you two had popped off to." Pepper laughs.

"Well, we got a bit distracted. But it's hard not too with this beautiful daughter of yours in the room, Mr. Stark." Harry smiles setting the mousse on the table.

"You must think you're really charming, huh, Harold?" Tony asks, dad-like.

Rachael sat down in her previous seat just waiting for this night be over, praying nothing bad would come out of it.
