~ TWO ~
"Bella, we should really hang out more." I told her when I finally got the chance to at lunch.
Bella seemed like a good person but that wasn't really my reason for wanting to be friends with her. I really just wanted the connection to stop bugging me. It seemed to calm down if I knew Bella was alright.
Bella looked at me awkwardly for a few seconds. I waited for her response and then felt a wave for awkwardness come over me. I still wasn't used to connection transmitting her emotions to me.
Bella still looked awkward. "Um-"
Eric interrupted her before she could answer. "Avery has always been the lesbian of our group but we accept her the way she is. Isn't that right?" He joked.
"Oh my God, no, I'm not. I'm not a lesbian. I meant hang out as friends." I explained to Bella with a blush running all over me.
"Oh, yeah sure. We should hang out then." She replied with relief.
"I'm gonna punch you, Eric." I said with a small laugh.
"You know I love you." He laughed back.
...
"Hey Bella, wait up." I called out as she began walking to biology.
"What is it?"
"Wanna skip class? You seem like you got something on your mind. Skipping one class isn't gonna hurt." I suggested.
"To do what?" She asked uninterested.
"We're gonna snort cocaine and inject heroin at a crack house in the woods." I said full of sarcasm. "But no, I wanted to head up and get some food. Today's lunch wasn't so good."
"Oh okay then. I guess I'll go."
The lunch room was clearing out so we had to go before it was noticeable.
"We're taking my car." I said as we left the school.
When we got in my car and I turned it on my music was blaring. Bella jumped and I quickly turned the knob. We both looked at each other and laughed.
"Sorry about that. I like my music pretty loud." I apologized.
"It's fine. I'm just surprised that you listen to opera. You don't seem like the type."
"My mom listened to it all the time so it grew on me. It also helps me calm down." I told her. That was probably the most open I've been with a person, even if it was just something simple like ny music taste.
I pulled out of the parking space and got out of the lot.
"Are you close with your mother?" Bella asked as I was driving.
"I was. She divorced my dad and left before we moved here."
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"Don't be, it's not that bad." I said. It might've been a lie but I wasn't even sure myself. "What about your parents?"
"They're divorced too. I'm staying with my dad, Charlie, for awhile."
"Oh, is he cool? You didn't really sound happy when you mentioned him." I smirked.
"He's alright. You know, he tries."
"That's good. Better than nothing."
I pulled into the nearest fast food place when we reached town.
After ordering food for myself and insisting Bella eat something, a five second argument on her taking the food, then finally getting the food we got back on the road.
"So, what's on your mind?" I asked between a bite.
"Well, and I know you told me to avoid him, it's about Edward." She paused after mentioning him.
"It's fine Bella. It's just my personal opinion. If you wanna go for it then go ahead." Then I said something I never thought in a million years I would say. "I'll still be here whether or not it works out." I had never really shown so much support for someone. It was unlike me in every way.
"Thanks, Avery." Bella looked down but I noticed a slight blush and smile.
"But go on. What's up with Edward?"
"Well, when I sat next to him he covered his nose like if I smelled like dead fish or something. He refused to talk to me. It was like I wasn't there at all."
"Maybe his sinuses were just acting up, unless you really did smell." I laughed.
"But I didn't that's the thing. When I went to the office after class he was there asking to switch from Biology. He isn't here today either."
"Well it does seem pretty weird. Just give it time maybe he'll lighten up. If he does anything rude or mean just let me know and I'll kick his ass."
...
We got back to school with about five minutes left before the period was over. Bella and I entered through a door near the back that was unlocked. That was probably the only important thing I had learned from this school.
When the bell rang we made our way into the busy hallway. As I walked to my next class Jasper grabbed my arm and gently pulled me towards the locker.
"What's the deal, man?" I asked him.
"Where did you take Bella?" He inquired with a threatening undertone.
"We beat up some homeless people and took their change." Jasper gave me a serious look. "Woah, I was just kidding. I got some food with her." I finished.
"Are you lying?"
I threw my hands up. "No I'm not, why do you care so much-"
"She's not lying." Alice chipped in, coming here out of nowhere. "So let's just leave her." She grabbed Jasper's wrist and pulled him along with her.
So weird...
...
Edward missed a couple days after Bella told me what happened. The connection gave me almost every emotion Bella was feeling; whether or not I was with her. All I had felt lately was disappointment. It was horrible because I had no real reason to feel this way.
I even asked Jasper if Edward was sick or something. All he had to say was "the flu." I knew it was a lie. Then again I don't think they know I know they're vampires. I just shrugged it off but something was off. Even Jasper had been acting differently since Bella arrived. I would catch him looking at me in utter confusion whenever I got an emotion from Bella. Maybe Jasper has some powers. Then again they would be a lot on top of already being immortal.
...
When Edward finally showed up again at lunch I got a feeling of relief. Hopefully these connection emotions would ease up for a bit.
"So are you gonna talk to him today?" I asked Bella before putting a forkful of salad in my mouth.
"Yeah, I was planning on it. Just hope he's not weird about it now."
"Well then let's hope for the best." I said mildly excited. I really just wanted these awkward Edward feelings to go away.
...
History class was full of the usual boredom. I was more interested in Bella confronting Edward than the lesson. I experimented with the connection a bit and tried focusing more on it. Who knows what could happen?
"So you enjoying the rain?" I heard a voice say. It sounded distant but still very clear.
I nudged Jasper's arm. "Did you say something?" I asked him, completely unsure of myself.
"No." He shook his head, immediately returning to his notes.
What if-no. It couldn't actually be the connection. But what if it is? What if that was Edward? I've never heard his voice up close but if I were to guess it sounds a lot like him. Seriously though, who asks about the weather?
...
After class ended I immediately went to find Bella. I saw her talking to Edward by the lockers and kept my distance. They had a quick talk which ended with Edward storming off. I walked over to her as soon as he left.
"How'd it go?" I eagerly asked with a grin.
"Good, I guess. He actually talked to me."
I glanced down at what Bella was holding. I hoped whatever that was didn't come from Edward. "Okay quick question. What the hell are you holding?" I laughed.
"It's a golden onion. It was just something Edward and I got in Biology." She answered with a slight laugh.
"Oh okay, still weird. By the way, did he ask you about the weather?" Now I could find out about the possible connection moment.
"He did actually. How did you-"
"I just wanted to see if he was that lame." I quickly made up. Even added a laugh to cover it up even more.
This connection thing was just getting weirder and weirder. I'll just keep it on the down low. It would probably scare Bella if I told her.
A/N
Okay so Avery tends to have a lot internal conversations...sorry not sorry. It's basically how I show more of her personality. Anyways, it's gonna go down in the next chapter and I'm so excited. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna introduce Avery and Jacob to each other then. Thanks for reading!
